Ever since I first heard Cream in 1967 you have had my highest respect as a musician and a person. I truly hope you will get fully recovered and back in business soon. The new album is great (as always).

Jack, just hope you're doing well. Listening to Cream as a teenager encouraged me to take up bass as a college freshman. Reading interviews re your influences back then led me to discover Bach (bought a 20+ LP set of the Complete Organ Works back in 1968 because of you) and then the other classics. Essentially, you were istrumental in opening for me a world of music of all kinds that I've enjoyed for more than 30 years. Thank you.

Best wishes Jack and a speedy recovery, I'm a big fan of all the music that you have shared with us over the years/ it was in fact your big brother Charlie who introduced me to Cream when I worked with him in the Head Post Office george square. And that wasn't yesterday. Cheers Jim Clark

I always enjoy your music; your great voice, your melodic and lyrical creativity go well beyond the bounds of the ordinary into the extraordinary. Your fresh, inventive harmonic progressions and melodic pathways direct my mind and spirit on wonderful new journeys of exploration and discovery. This is true not just when listening for the first time but again and again and again.

Dear Jack--

I was so surprised to hear of your surgery. Sure sounds serious. Glad you are healing up nicely and have cooked Christmas dinner!

When I was a teenager, i first was turned on to Cream. Having bought all their albums, I was saddened to learn of Cream's break-up. Today, being older and wiser (one hopes) I realize nothing lasts forever and that (as my wife says) good things come out of changes.

When I purchased "Songs for a Tailor" so long ago, I became hooked on your solo sound. Since then, I have purchased all your albums.

Please stay healthy and continue to make great music. My own son is a jazz tenor sax man and is part of Chico Hamilton's Euphoria, so I appreciate music and the difference it makes in our lives.

Please go on with your musical vision and make our tormented world a sweeter place through your talent and leadership. We here in the colonies have not forgotten Jack Bruce and his legacy from Cream onward.

May I add that I am happy your back catalog is now available on CD.

Best wishes and stay healthy

D Schwam A musical acolyte of yours

Dear Jack - just to say it was great to meet you after all these years when we briefly spoke after the 'Legends of Rock' concert you headlined at the Cliffs Pavillion, Southend on Sea, November 2002. I first saw you, with Cream, at Woodlands Youth Centre, Basildon in early 1967. The good family friend, who had just taken over running the place, took a piece of paper round to the dressing room which you and Eric Clapton signed for me. When I related this to you at Southend - and mentioned that Ginger Baker had not signed - you replied rather dryly that 'Ginger could not write.' I did manage, through a friend who had access to tickets at the time, to get to the first of your two 'Farewell' concerts at the Albert Hall in 1968 (when I tell other guitar playing friends of these two events, they are mighty envious). It was nice though to speak with you after all the years, and to tell you how much I liked your (then) latest album 'Shadows In The Air.' After saying that this show was not 'your cup of tea' you kindly signed my ticket and shook my hand. I understand what you meant because all that heavy stuff is not to my taste either (nowhere as good as Cream were). I really have enjoyed your music though because you have stayed true to your real musical values and beliefs. I now have all your original albums on CD as well as your latest couple on the Sanctuary label. I do hope to catch up with again soon, this time with you own band in performance. Hopefully it will not be too long. All the very best to you - From Bob Cross.

Hope you are doing well Jack and thanks so much for all the years of great music.

I was born in 1952, so my JR.High and High School years were 1964 thru 1970. Wow, great years for music!

The first album I ever bought in my life was Wheels of Fire. I used to fall asleep with Cream turned way down low so it wouldn't wake my parents. Those were the days...yes they were!

I was a Cream Freak for aleast ten years and still love it today. For me it was not just about Clapton...it was about you on bass and Ginger on the drums as well. The bands energy was simply electric! You have a great voice and I love the way you write music.

Like so many other people I was sad when Goodbye Cream came out. I moved on with West,Bruce, and Lang.....BLT and the others.

Keep up the good work Jack. You make life better for alot of people thru your music. Your family must be very proud of you. We admire your talent.

Best Wishes Jeff & Diana Detwiler 2619 11th Street Altoona, Pa 16601

I was stunned to hear about your affliction! I'm very glad you're still with us!!

I've been studying and enjoying your playing since about 1966, but have only been lucky enough to see you live once at the Greek in LA - the Beatles music tribute band gig in 2002(?).

You were WONDERFUL at that show - your rendition of Eleanor Rigby blew Paul McC's away, and the jam at the end of White Room was truly astounding. I really wish I could go back and see all the great shows that I have missed.

Be well, and keep playing that amazing, multicolored music that you create.

Thanks for all the great years!!

Jack, the other nite Leslie and Corky played BB's-2 sets(Yo, granted he's one fine guitarist, but he's like a lounge act....too bad). However, he mentioned you at both sets and also did"Why Dontcha" and "Theme" ( God bless his big(formerly) fat heart.) He was pretty funny, tho,HIS SPEAKING voice is Exactly like HARVEY FIERSTEIN. Anyway, he was giving away some promo guitar and when he gave it to the thrilled woman he classly said :"You're not gonna sell this to buy dope, are you?"

When I got into rock music at the age of 14 my first heroes were Cream and Mountain who almost immediately split. Imagine my delight when within weeks it was announced that members were uniting to form West, Bruce And Laing. In April 1973 my first ever gig was WB&L at Newcastle and I have remained a firm fan af the members and their seperate ways ever since, being espercailly delighted to find an import copy of Leslie's "Theme" album with Jack back in the 80's. Jack has always written great songs whether with Cream, WB&L or solo and I'm delighted that he'll be around for a while yet. "Shadows In The Dark" was great and I look forward to hearing the new one. All the best Jack, Trev

I've not checked this site in a while, but saw in the new issue of Q, which gives a well deserved 4 star rating to the recently released retrospective, that Jack had been seriously ill. I am happy beyond words to hear that the prognosis is good. For more than 30 years Jack has been at the top of my list of favorite musicians and I will gladly debate with anyone my contention that Jack is the main reason Cream was so good. Clapton has never played guitar like he did when he was struggling to keep up with the pace set by Jack in virtually every Cream song. Every solo album he has released, from Songs for a Tailor on is a cherished posession and has offered inspiration to me many time over the years. Hang in there Jack! I know there are many more good albums inside you and with each new release you brighten my life more than you can know. Get well soon!

Hello Jack, I am hoping you will remember who I am. When you were at Park Gate Studio, Catsfeild, in the early eighties, Ike and Sarah were my foster parents, I came to your wedding to Mary in Hastings and the six of us went for a meal afterwards. (Lorraine and I decorated the rolls while you were in the registry office) I am desperate to contact you re a base session, so sorry to hear about your recent misfortune, however, I am sure you will make full recovery, it seems you have an awful lot of love and support from the poeple around you. Here's wishing you all the best for now and the future. Take care you, love Jen.

Dear Jack,

You gave me a scare. I am relieved to read here that you are recovering well. Here are some things you might enjoy while you finish healing. I've heard you like Bach, so you should know about an extraordinary performance of the Brandenburg Concertos. It's by the AKADEMIE FUR ALTE MUSIK BERLIN. They're on the harmonia mundi label. They use period instruments which they manage to keep in tune! This is Bach played with soul, and they're precise as well. It's the best I've heard. Have you heard the Joni Mitchell album where her songs are re-arranged for orchestra? It's just brilliant, moving versions of great songs for designed for grown-ups (or sophisticated teens) featuring Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Brian Blade etc. It's called TRAVELOGUE. (Some of Pastorius's original basslines reappear as featured counter-melodies.) I hope you get well soon (yesterday would be good).

Sincerely, your fan,

Eliot Kleinberg

Congratulations, my best will for your full recovery, and please keep evolving as you have been, get well, even step by step, a collaborator of you told me that the good will for your recovery would make it for him and his family, because the idea of praying was not in what he grew or had been used to,I, been a (non active actually) catholic raised guy, still belive in prayers, as an alternative concept for good will, what counts is that like him and many others : we WISH for your full-good-health !!!!!BLESSINGS!!!!

Jack,

So glad to hear the good news about your recovery. My sincere best wishes to you and your family.

You are my musical inspiration and the reason I took up playing the bass. In 1968 the first bass guitar I purchased was a Gibson EB3 in my attempt to emulate Jack Bruce. My playing could only replicate or perhaps draw some similarity to the man I respected and hold to this day as the greatest electric bass player on the planet. Jack and Bach are at the core of my bass interest and the rest only follow.

I had the pleasure of seeing you perform just once in Rochester NY in the 1980's. Would love to see you perform again and will try to make wherever it happens.

All the best...

I hadn't been on to your website for quite some time and was checking out when you would next be appearing in the UK - I was therefore shocked to learn of your illness but it looks like you've fought and won- great news! I've followed your music since 1966 when I saw you live for the first time with Cream at Worthing. I feel priveledged to have seen you with many of your own and other bands. The current band(Nottingham 2001)together with Lifetime (wow!- Sheffield 1970) are two of my favourite gigs. I wish you a speedy full recovery and look forward to seeing you on the road again very soon.

Very best wishes

Jack, Just heard the news of your medical problems via. the article on you in the feb/mar issue of Guitar World's 'Bass Guitar' magazine . To say it was a shock would be an understatement... Needless to say I had to dial up your website and wish you well. I sincerely hope that you get to a very great age indeed. My name will probably be pretty meaningless, but we did actually meet several times; not long after the demise of 'Cream'. You used to visit Ralph's basement flat in Albany street and, to my great embarassment, walked in on me one evening when I was practising some of your basslines. Jamming along to 'I'm so glad' from the 'Goodbye' album, actually, on an old Eko Mark Clark sold me which I'd made fretless. I'm still trying to play bass... May you continue to do so for a long time yet. Cheers! Phil

Dear Jack,

All the best to you and I hope you get well pretty soon. I once shook hands with you after a Rainer Baumann concert at the "Fabrik" in Hamburg a couple of years ago. There I told you that you had always been a constant source of inspiration to me. You still are! And I am thankful for that. Therefore I would like to give you something like a proof of what your music (and Pete Brown's lyrics) mean to me: I am an abstract painter (acrylic on canvas) and would like to give you one of my paintings as a present for - have a look at my website www.webgalerie.org and I would be ever so pleased to give it to you and by the way of the power and colour of my paintings help you get well again soon. We're waiting for you... Cheers, mate - that's what you said to me when I left and I wish the same to you.

Best wishes - Hendrik Thies Hamburg

Dear Jack,

God, (and I ain't talking to Eric), I hope your doing well in your recovery. What a legendary musical career yours is and has been.

Ever since I was age two, my orbit revolved around great music. My mom had to replace my "Mr. Sandman" 45 twice (my notion of ‘great’ has been refined over these many years!).

From Cream to Lifetime to Mahavishnu to Miles and beyond, I thank the lads and YOU especially for pointing the way for me through a fabulous journey. I hope to see you soon in the states.

From my heart to yours and your family's,

Jack, I just wanted to say I hope your recovery is going well. You've been such an inspiration and such a giant of music. I regret I never caught Cream live but I did see West, Bruce and Laing at the Warehouse in New Orleans, La. many years ago. In fact I saw Mountain several months ago and mentioned to Corky that I had seen WBL way back when. I was the drummer for a band in the 60's called, "Experimental Dream". We played practically everything from Disraeli Gears. I just bought the book,"Cream" by Chris Welch. Great!!!! Anyway, thanks for your music and get well soon!!!!!

Dear Mr Bruce, You are in my thoughts & paryers. I know you will be fine, you are the product of a very special time and a survivor. I myself was diagnosed with Hep C a few years back and underwent unsucsessful treatment, but I'm "Still Alive And Well" It's a very strange thing (or Brew.)Back in the days of "Those Were The Days" Cream was my alltime favorite band. Then you know how it goes, you go through phases, and your music changes. Well, recently my 15 year old son (I'm 49)got me the Cream Bio Book for Christmas, and since then its been a non-stop steady diet of Cream. As I was listening to "Goodbye" on the Computer (is this a great invention, or what?) I started surfing the Cream web sites, and came upon your site. That was the first I had heard of your surgery. Well, once more let me say that you are in my thoughts, and Godspeed to recovery. Hope to see you in New York City on your next tour. Sincerly, Mike Rapanaro

Dear Jack Bruce! I'm very sorry, but I have a request for you. Will you please send me your photo with your original autographs or just an answer on my letter. For me it would like... a present equal "the flight to the moon"! Oh,GOD!But it's just a dream,I even can't hope for it.There are no miracles in reality!? Having finishing my letter let me wish you everything a person can wish to his friends:a successful work and a lot of happiness in your life, and also to continue gladden your admirers with your songs.Thank the time thas has presented us such a wonderful musician and man.I want you to be happy and always young! Hi Jack,

My name is Michael. I suddenly heard from a close source of Godfrey Townsend that you were ill. Until I signed onto your website today I just found out that you are making a great recovery, that's fantastic man!! I can relate, my Dad had the same illness. Unfortunately he is no longer with us but he fought a tough battle & never ever gave into this terrible disease. I have all the faith your in good hands & will fight this too.

I had the pleasure to see you live at BB Kings in NYC, Oct of 2002 & you put on a fabulous show, blew me away for sure!! I have been playing drums for 25 years, since the age of 12 & always found your bass playing very intriguing. Always love to hear those bass lines whenever I'm either playing along or just listening.

I'm counting on seeing you in the near future, so get ready to pick up that Warwick & bang out some awesome tunes again!!

God bless you & your family.

Michael.

...somehow, fortunately for me, in my musical travels I acquired a copy of Songs for a Tailor (I was 15 - 1971) and was floored by, at that time, how completely unique a sound it was. Time and again I've listened to it, year after year - it's always fresh, clear - amazing, and still unique today! I've always felt like it was my special little "find" (I know that's my conceit.) I never knew anyone who had the album (still don't) and I've played it for so many people over the years. Now I've turned my kids on to you. Your music is very special to me - thank you!

Since I was 15 (I'm 45 now), your music has never left my mind. Especially sad songs, they are the best ones. Sadness is the best translation of an artist mind, its a deep feeling. Now I read u've been in trouble with our health. I really wish you'll recover and be back among those u love as soon as possible. Weirdly I've been in the same troubles some years ago, thats another common thing, and althought I dont consider myself as an artist, many artists have had in history these kinds of problems. Life can be hard to stand but the escape key is touchy. "Ars longa vita brevis"... Artists never die in people memory.. But in your particular case, please, wait for ... 30 more years. ok? ;) Good luck! JMM

No musician has ever touched me more with either voice or skill. I only hope someday to see you perform live. It would be a dream come true. Please stay well and continue to feed our souls with your music.

God Speed, Rebecca

Jack, I was not aware you were having surgery and health problems. I just found your website trying to rehain some old memories I have seeing you play in Cream. I saw you playing in Detroit, Michigan USA on your first US tour at the the Grande Ballroom. I have always admired your work. I was also a rock lead singer and bass player in 60's and 70's.

I hope you have a speedy recovery and continue to enjoy life with your loved ones.

Peace, Gary Gowman

Dear Jack,

I am 53 and have admired your music since the days of Cream. I particularly like your early solo albums, Songs for a Tailor, Harmony Row and Out of the Storm. I did not even know about your illness until I read about your transplant on your website just now. I can't tell you how happy I am that you are recovering. Your music has brought me many hours of joy. Best wishes.

Jack, hope you are well and keeping strong. Only recently got into 'Hows Tricks ?' shame on me where have I been during my 52 years ? Superb stuff.

Saw you with Ringo at Shepherds Bush it was a masterclass in bass-playing. Old Ringo can now say he has played with the two greatest bassists ever (do I need to name the other ?)

much regards

Jack, glad to hear you're doing well after your surgery. I've been a fan for a very long time (I once played bass and fancied myself the next JB--not that I could ever have filled your shoes), and I still regard "Crossroads" as my all-time favorite rock tune, as much for your bass as for Eric's guitar work. It knocked my socks off when I first heard it, it knocks my socks off when I hear it these days, and it will knock my socks off 30+ years from now if I'm still around.

Jack, I have been a fan since I first heard Fresh Cream in 1968. I've seen you play live several times and hope to see you again. You're still my favorite bassist ever and my son says you're right up there with Flea and Victor Wooten. Please get well soon and give the world more of your music. Thanks so much for the pleasure your music has given me over the years.

Hi Jack!

I'm a 20 yrd old drummer and started listening to Cream at the age of six. Till today, no bassist has ever made such a huge impression on me than you did. It's a dream for me to play with a bassist of your calibre. Hearing you, Eric, and Ginger live, turned me on to improvisation like never before. I'm also a great fan of your solo work as well as, my man on the drums, Ginger Baker's.

For you to share your unique musical vision and bass playing with the world,is a great blessing. I feel that every musician shld experience your music at least once in their lifetime and be greatly inspired to push the boundaries of musical innovation. Thank you for helping me to realize this.

God Bless You.

Jason.

Hi Jack,I hope things are getting a little better for You.I am only a drummer, but I did have the good fortune of seeing You and Your band with Ginger Baker at the 23rd east caberet in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania,on 12/8/90.You were phenomenal.I gained a new respect for You,as You really put on a great show,I was wondering when You would do an album showcasing Your upright bass and cello talents,or if You are interested in that at all.I wish You the best,Jack. God Bless You and get well soon,We lost all our pioneers, and I can't take this teenage "music" any longer,You have to come out with an album at least once every decade,I was hoping You,Steve Winwood, and Rick Grech would do an album together soon,You and Steve Winwood could both sing, play the piano, that would kick ass,You don't really need Eric clapton.I've seen much better.Maybe You could get Johnny Winter!!!That would be a real epic recording,(Raising My glass for Ya,Jack!!!) I haven't got many heroes left Jack, so I'm hoping and praying for a speedy recovery (this could be out of date so if it is, belated wishes any way!) I first heard you back in the sixties with Cream and just thought you had the most incredible expressive voice I'd heard, which seemed at times to almost mirror your playing. To me the sixties were Cream, and I still get goosebumps listening to my old scratched LPs - talk about nostalgic! Anyway enough waffle - just thanks for all the pleasure you've given over so many years Jack.
