Jack, Been thinking of you very much since I heard the news. Frozen with fear is probably the more appropriate expression, if the truth be told. But you are reported to be making the kind of recovery I, and the rest of us would expect of you!! I'm looking forward to hearing this new record, and I'm wishing you much love. Toilet paper always. Long live the king of bass and song. Gary H.

Dear Jack Bruce, since I've been twelve or thirteen years old, I hear your music, esp. with "The Cream". It has been the very best of music, I've heard. Now, thirty years later, I would like to say the same and I would like to see and to hear you one time in my life on stage. So here my question: Is it possible to see you here in Germany or in near european countries one time??? It would be the greatest for me. Hopefully, one of your greatest "fans", a fan of real music, with best wishes for you, Juergen Fischer

Dear Jack!
Since the days of Cream, you have been one of my most enduring heroes, as a musician but also as a human being. I remember very vividly how you in an interview in Guitar Player Magazine talked about how we are given the gift of music and that God will try us for it, making us prove that we are worth this gift. This statement has always stuck with me as offering a great sense of meaning for how the healing powers of music work and that they come with a prize. I guess the good Lord has tried you once more and I´m so happy and relieved that you are still with us! Thank you so much for everything and I wish you the best of luck for the future!
Yours Sincerely

Hey Jack, I would first like to wish you all the best with your recovery and the rest of your life. You have been my bass inspiration since I was 15 and started grooving on the sound of Cream. I'm still playing at the age of 48 and with you as an ideal, as a person and a musician, I hope for many more years of productivity. When you get well enough to travel iit would be great to see you in Stockholm.(I'm originally from New York.) Best wishes, Ralph

I saw Jack with Cream in the sixties at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen (there's a venue for you!) The power failed on stage and Jack and Ginger soldiered on with Rollin & Tumblin without amplification! At fifty two I've just bought by first bass -the inspiration from Jack that night in Aberdeen lived on all that time. Get well soon - rock still needs us fifty-somethings!

Having thought for 25 years about writing to you via a record company, I am finally getting to it. My thoughts and prayers have been with you since I learned of your operations by reading Bass Player magazine. My study, and that is the right word, of your music goes back to the late 1960's. I will always remember a friend's words, when I announced that I had purchased an electric bass. He said, "If you're gonna play bass, there's this guy you gotta hear." He then loaned me his copy of Best of Cream. I cut my bass teeth doing my best to emulate your lines and learn from them. My appreciation of your work extends way beyond the bass, as it should. I continue to marvel at the harmonic and rhythmic intricacies of your compositions. I have always enjoyed the fact that, just when my mind thought it knew where the composition was going, you took it somewhere completely unexpected. Your recordings (I'm proud to have even the hard-to-find ones)and your training video are staples of the materials used with my bass students. We look forward to many more offerings from your fertile imagination. Thank you for what you have contributed to millions world-wide. May God bless you during your continued recovery. Sincerly, Jim Allison

Hi Jack I'd like to wish you all the best for the future and hope you recover fully to carry on making great music, been a fan since cream days, I feel for your friends and family its a great strain on them, I recently lost my wife after a liver transplant she was 47 she never came out of hospital but it was something completely different to yourself, it was something called amyloidosis its quite rare and not many people have heard of it, I'd be gratful when your fighting fit and working again if you could perhaps mention the word (amyloidosis) here and there so people become aware, once again I wish you full recovery and good luck for the future. Hello When I was about twenty years old I went to a Ceeam concert in Memphis> I had met you and some people in the Cream camp until that day that night I never payed much attention to cats that played the bass but you were the one cat that made me sit and listen!I remember going up to Duck Dunn and Steve Cropper and saying "I heard Jack Bruce last WOW why didn"t ya'll tell me and he's the one sing etc. See I was sorta the little white girl that was let into the studios here mainly because I behaved and I was a flower child and amusing to all these cats here back then and and course some of my family were in the studios. Anyway the players use to kid me saying "she loves Jack Bruce and laugh. And my reply was I don't know Jack Bruce but I love what he's laying down! You really moved me and I heard alot of the Black legends already they called ne lil sister, I drove everybody crazy about you I made Furry Lewis listen to my records. Stay in the light and I pray you'll always be all right . I'll keep you in my prayers. Love.Health and Happiness Lilsister

Hi Jack,
Listening and understanding your music has always been an enjoyable thing for me. You are always exploring new and uncharted territory and I love it. Right now Im in the middle of playing your new CD, More Jack Than God, nice work!!
Ive been a fan of yours since the 60s, and still have my original albums and 8 tracks of yours & Cream as well. To this day there is always one of those CDs in my car to listen to. True music is never tiring, only more evolving as we move through time.
Most recently, I saw your show in at the Park West in Chicago, December 2001. I still talk about the performance that night. Brilliant is an understatement. I was seated right up near the stage and heard every note you and your band played. A memory forever...Thank you, you are one of my favorite artists!
I also saw you with Ringo Starr a few years before at the same club. Ill never forget when it was your turn and you launched into White Room. I was compelled to leave the people I was with and walk down the isle straight to the stage and crouch down so I wasnt blocking anyone and just absorb what you were doing. You took me back to a time when I was too young to see your early shows and Ill never forget it.
It has been five months now since your operation and I can only hope and wish you well.
I have visited Scotland and toured your country on my bicycle only to learn what a Scotsman really is. Stay strong, and most of all keep that creative flame burning! I wish you a full and healthy recovery. I know you can do it.

Hiya Jack, Sorry to read about the medical problems you have been having, but I am glad to see that you are at home and getting better after the surgery you went through. I never got to see Cream play but that band's music was a major part of my teenage life. Songs For A Tailor is an excellent album as well. Think I better check out Harmony Row and Out OF The Storm (several decades late!). Mmm, glad I came across your website I have learned loads. Take care, Jack Barron

Dear Jack Bruce!
Let me call you so and the reason is that first I heard you in far,far 1969-s,when your disk "Songs For a Tailor" appeared.I was shocked.I opened something new for me,something unknown at that time it was unlike the other music, music which being unlike the other, impressed me,by it sinkere kindness. And when I saw your photo, can't forget it till nowadays.Every time, having got your next disk with great difficulty,as the prices were and remain today too high(but usually it takes a lot of time before we can listen to your next disk) I immersed in your music world and imagined as if,I were together with you.Unforgettable time! You had everything on your way:success and disappointment, but the time proved that your are "the qiants of music"!I am glad with to every you success still many, many years.I always wanted to know about your as much .I'm interested in both: your life and work. Will you, please help me,if it's possible to know more about you not only as a musitian but as a person. We can understand music though the musitians thoughts and soul even if we don't understand the words in English.I would like to speak with you about everything. But it's a pity it's not possible to write everything in a letter.A letter is the only means communication with you ... The only hope to meet you and and to speak with group it' your concert. But in fortunately it's very difficult.Heardly I when nor be able arrive in England single hope if you will arrive in Russia,we without fall a meet.Dreams... Dear Jack Bruce! I'm very sorry, but I have a request for you. Will you please send me your photo with your original autographs or just an answer on my letter. For me it would like... a present equal "the flight to the moon"! Oh,GOD!But it's just a dream,I even can't hope for it.There are no miracles in reality!? Having finishing my letter let me wish you everything a person can wish to his friends:a successful work and a lot of happiness in your life, and also to continue gladden your admirers with your songs.Thank the time thas has presented us such a wonderful musician and man.I want you to be happy and always young! We love and always will be with you.
Ever' your Helen.

Dear Jack,
I can only join the other fellows in your guestbook with my admiration to your music ever since I first heard a Cream record. As a fan of you for the past 30+ years (and my personal top-list consists only of a very limited number of blues/jazz/rock "magicians") I insist - also in the name of all my friends here - that you come to Hungary more often than in the past decade!!!! We terribly miss your concerts! Hope the latest news about you in the last entries of your guestbook mean only a temporary and short situation. So get really well soon, and now - after so many LPs, CDs and VHS casettes in my collection - I'm waiting for the postman to bring my first Jack Bruce DVD - Jack Bruce and Friends.
Best friendly wishes

Hi Jack I have been agreat fan of yours since Cream - and I'm so glad (no pun intended) that you are recovering from your operation and hope you are back in the swing soon. I have just bought "More Jack Than God", which I think is brilliant - and can't stop playing. I have just finished buying all your albums on CD (I already have all of them on vinyl). I have never been able to understand why a great musician like you with such a superb voice has not been more "popular" if that's the right word - but then when you see the some of the crap "popular" artists around it's probably not surprising, if you know what I mean. Anyway, get well soon Jack- and thanks for all the great music you've given us over the years - looking forward to your next album!

I really wish Jack ALL the best in his speedy recovery. Strangely enough I had NO idea about this and was just looking up some facts about him on the Internet. I was putting a Best of Lifetime CD (as well as Best of Cream and then his Shadows in the Air - all my own CD's I hasten to add!) onto my laptop before going off to Portugal (I need good music wherever I go) and wanted to check out one or two facts about him. That at the moment is pointless in terms of his health but please tell Jack that he - along with Miles Davis and that's pretty good company in my book - has led me to avenues in music that without his thundering bass lines and immaculate sense of the blues I wouldn't have gone down. As soon as he is on the road to recovery and he is back playing and comes over to Paris (or nearby) I will be there to see him. All the best.
Steve
PS Davis made a mistake not inviting him to play in his group!

Jack: Get well soon! Do you remember playing in Detroit, Michigan in 1967 and 1968? You appeared with Cream at the Grande Ballroom in the summer. It was so hot in there my girlfriend passed out and I had to revive her by pushing her wrists on the cooler marble floor, I wouldn't leave the concert though. You took your shirt off and played "Rolling and Tumbling". I saw with Cream at Olympia Stadium in '68 also, you were the BEST band ever! George Lusky

Hi Jack I'm glad you are recovering and I hope you are back up to your old tricks soon. Do you remember me I was a best friend of Joe who permanently stopped me chasing the D (big ginger haired bloke) I have a punked up slide blues delta style band now called Catweezel (me and drums). You are an inspiration. I use the 66 Deluxe reverb amp that you bought on your first US tour with Cream. I bought it off Malcom years ago. I'm starting to gig more lately. If you ever want to come to a show a run some Muddy waters or Robert Johnson tunes I would be honored. God bless you Jack. Get fit quick. Pinch x

You, sir, and your wondeful band of beautiful skillful players have inspired me beyond all recognition. Youre lot and Roy Harper! (Who, by the way, i saw live afew months back. Stunning form.) Im 19years of age, but my tastes reside in the 60s where originality and actual music was produced. You along with Hendrix, Harper, Led Zep and Taste keep me going. I am a musician also, and like yourself, i was clasically trained. I am currently unlearning these horrid imprints and persuing big, brighter and more meaningful things. And you are with me all the way. Get well soon jack. I want a Cream reunion Tour!!!! xxxxxx

Hope you are still making a good recovery. Early reports were promising and I sincerely hope that has continued. Thank you for your music over the years. Saw you with Graham Bond and then many Cream gigs including the 1966 Windsor debut and standing on ice skates at Queens Ice Rink in London (what a strange venue that was!). Took some photos at Windsor and a couple of years ago started to digitise some of the old negatives I had kept. This enabled me to email them to Eddy for his Cream tribute pages (which I reckon is one of the best of the tribute sites) - copy this url to get there: http://www.angelfire.com/ca/oldtimers/Windsor.html

When i saw the news item in Mojo mag about Jacks condition i was very saddened. Having grown up in the Detroit area and being a teenager in the sixties I was 17 in 1967 the Grande Ballroom was the place to be. I saw Cream play there and was blown away.Even though Eric Clapton was the one to break into the mainstream Jack's solo lps were what I was listoning to. When i saw that they were being reissued I bought Harmony Row and Songs For a Tailor which I think are two of the greatest albums of all time. I listen to them all the time. Here's hoping for a great and speedy recovery Jack. One of your biggest fans with love Gary Conard

I'm so sorry to suddenly find out that you've been ill. I've loved your stuff for years and saw you at the Santa Monica Civic during the tour for "I've Always Wanted to Do This." I teach music at a small private Christian school and had occasion once to play "Mickey the Fiddler" for my high school choir as an example of imaginative songwriting (they thought it was fabulous). As I type this, I'm listening to "More Jack Than God," and I have to say that you sound better than you have in years. I'm rambling - I guess I should just say that I'm glad you're recovering, and we'll pray that your good health continues.

Dear Jack,
I am originally from Iran. I heard Cream's music for the firdt time in 1967, in Iran. (This was before the take over of Islamic regime in 1979, when listening to music, especially western music became illegal and before got whipped for listening to music.) I liked it very much and enjoyed listening to innovation that was introduced by the Cream to the rock'n'roll music. After Cream disbanded, I listened to Jack Bruce's solo albums and to this day, I enjoy his music very much. I wish you a fast recovery from your operation. I hope to see you and your band in Vancouver one day.

I often grab my acoustic guitar and sing and play a bit of the old cream repetoire before heading off to work. Never ceases to delight me!
And I've deeply appreciated your work ever since as well.
Hope you are indeed Sitting on Top of the World! May you have many more years of vigor and happiness.
much love! astroblue

A song once stated "growing up is hard to do"(I believe that Neil Sedaka sang it). But coping with the infirmities of our "age" is even harder. If you can keep your courage as strong as your bass lines, you'll outlive us all. Your music has seen me thru some bad times, I know that it will carry you through yours. I wish you all the best.

Dear Jack,
Hope you make a full recovery and can get back to enjoying your life.
I just ordered Harmony Row from Amazon today (my dad bought it when you released it, and I've still got his vinyl copy). I cut my musical teeth trying to play along to this LP, and I still love to play Can You Follow on the piano - and sing, albeit not very sonorously!
All the best - yours sincerely Richard Pallister

Dear Jack, I sure hope you are getting better daily. I went through cancer treatment myself last year for throat cancer. I opted to avoid surgery because I likely would have been disfigured and wouldn't have been able to play the harmonica. Chemo and radiation were rough but I pulled through and am so far cancer free. I hope it works out as well for you. Say I was listening to a live recording of Ten Years After yesterday and I was thinking you and Alvin Lee would really be a great duo for a concert or tour when you are up and about again. Just an idea. My page for you on my music web site is still one of the most popular. Best wishes, Joe

Dear Jack,
seven years ago I wrote a little, sad song. I broke with my girlfriend after three years of war, fire and pain. I looked into myself, and I find so much love, for me, my life, my music, my home and my verses.
So I wrote this little song I called "With the heart of Jack Bruce", to say how much beautiful was my life and how big was my soul.
Now my life is simply great, and more than seven years ago I want go on to live it thinking at your sensibility, your poetry... your heart.
Sorry for my english.
"Un abbraccio forte e un augurio di pronta guarigione": I need your sound and your soul. Come Back on the streets.

I bought myself a new stereo equipment, and decided that the first cd to play and test the new stuff was to be Jack Bruce latest cd More Jack Than God. I just sat on the middle of the floor as his pumping bas came towards me from all directions. I thought to myself "This man is a true genius, and thank God he is still among us". I wish You all the best Jack. I saw You back in the seventies here in Gothenburg, first with West Bruce and Laing, and later with the Jack Bruce Band, strong memories to have. Jan.

Jack,
I just recently learned of your illness. Sorry to hear you had to go through such a difficult time, but glad to hear your doing well now. When I heard of your illnes was deeply saddened. I'm usually not the kind that gets caught up in the "celebrity" thing, but with you it's different. You've given me many, many years of listening pleasure. I'm also a bass player, and you have always been an inspiration for me. You're an extremely gifted and talented man. On the few occasions that I've seen you perform you came across as a very humble and pleasant person. That just adds to my admiration for you. Anyway, here's hoping for a speedy recovery and I look forward to hearing more music from you in the future. God bless.

Dear Jack
I had not heard about your health situation until I went to your web site today (March 23/04). I was shocked to hear that you had cancer but am glad that you are recovering well. May your recovery be swift and complete!
I recently started to listen to Cream again after listening only occasionally. (My musical diet lately has been punk and Cream - the really short and the really long heavier stuff.) I always felt that Cream was one of the greatest bands. The music, particularly the live material, is still incredible.
Cream was the first band I ever saw, in Vancouver when I was 13. When I listen to Cream I like to focus on your bass playing (no offense Eric). It is strong and tough but also melodic and beautifully so. I am thinking of buying a bass and learning to play even though part of me thinks that a 48 year old so-so guitar player shouldn't bother trying. But when I listen to your playing I always want to pick up a bass.
Thank you for your music. May you make much more.
Wishing you the best of health Bruce McLennan Ottawa, Ontario

jack bruce was as important to my bass playing as my parents were for buying me my first bass guitar. trying to find someone out there in the music world that played anywhere near the concept i heard in my head, i found Jack's individuality and musicality to be the perfect complement to John Entwistle's pentatonic style. In the music of The Who, Jimi Hendrix Experience and The Cream, i found similar voices to make me feel confident that a singing, melodic, contrapuntal and soloistic style of bass playing was o.k. to pursue, despite the protests of peers with no visions of their own. for this i shall always be grateful.
the bass is free thanks to people like Jack..thank you, Jack, THANK YOU for taking everything you heard, rolling it up and using it along with your desire to play the bass guitar as melodic counterpoint and lead. His indian influences, classical, jazz, rhythm and blues, etc were perfect for showing me that music is music and instruments are vehicles to one's expression.
i'm proud to claim him as a seminal influence and say that he will go down in history as one of the greatest musicians to bend the bass guitar to his will.
Cheers indeed to this rugged individualist, one of the best ever at being himself.
all my love to you and your family, Jack Bruce!! you are a blessing to more people than you know.
respectfully, Richard M. Rogers electric bass guitarist.
p.s. from wellman braud and pops foster, to walter page and jimmy blanton, to charles mingus and scott lafaro, to jimmy garrison and ron carter, to milt hinton and Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen, Jack is a giant himself and will be noted in the history books for his contributions to music!
