G'Day Guys , I have not written to Jack's site for quite awhile . It is great to see that lots of people still believe in the power of Jack Bruce. I just downloaded an mp3 of "White Room " . It sounds ok , but very Santansrish. Thats ok , at least Jack is singing. It will probably not be released in Australia, but I will will be able to get it from overseas. Please tour Australia , Jack. Many people want to here you live. Belated Happy Birthday. Paul . Windsor . N.S.W.

Hi Jack

Glad to hear you are still working and pushing the envelope. Your great voice and phrasing were the main things that made Cream interesting to me way back then.

Good luck, and don't let Eric sing all the songs if you do get round to doing a gig.

I actually found that album that you 'appeared' on with Ellen McElwaine (hope the spelling's right) via the CDNOW Website. Soon as I can afford it I'm going to buy it. The saxophonist from the 1985 line-up of my own band, BEACHHEAD had the damn thing and consequently we did 'DANGER ZONE' sans all instruments, except bass and vocals. The other instruments only came in on the bridge!

Take care, BEACHHEAD

I'm just incredibly excited about Jack's newest release and his tour. I've seen Jack over a dozen times and I'm counting on him to hit Los Angeles as part of his tour. Ever since they refused me entrance to the Fillmore East to see Cream (I was 13 at the time). I also had tickets to see Tony Williams Lifetime in Brooklyn, NY when that show got cancelled at the last minute. So I've promised myself to never miss another JB tour again. Most recently, I saw all 3 Southern California performances in support of A Question of Time and the the subsequent show in support of somethin Els. So come on back, Jack! You never fail to move me to the core of my being. And, by the way, when I e-mailed seemingly everybody in the world to try to get my hands on the 50th birthday video, you were the only one who actually responded! Your response mad it all worthwhile! I look forward to seeing you! Ken Klein

I've been listening to 'Shadows in the Air' the past couple days and it's another excellent set of songs. Hope Jack tours the States to support the new record. I've been a Jack Bruce nut since I bought Harmony Row in 1971 (for $2.78 I think). With any Jack Bruce solo effort it's usually months before it sinks in and I can pick big favorites. Bravo!

Read somewhere that EC responded to JB's appeal to do something for GB by getting together to (God forbid) play a few latter-day CREAM benefits was, essentially, "It's time GB did somthing for GB".

Listen, pal - without GB you would have never gotten out of JM's Blues Breakers, much less the U.K. It was GB and JB that put the fire under your nascent career. Your songwriting then was non-existant, notwithstanding AE's short-sighted designs. You were saved by JB's compositions.

A very uncaring, disloyal, short-sighted, unresponsive and boring man you would seem to be.

Just to put the record straight, P. Lee, Cream would have been a very different band without EC and I never suggested Cream should do some dates for Ginger's benefit. That would be a very thin and patronising reason to get together again. This is one of these myths that spring out of a journalist's misunderstanding. Why doncha get out and buy Shadows and simply forget about the Creams?

I agree with "Jack". The CREAM were a great band and the forerunner to many great bands. let's move on and embrace the stuff that Jack and others are creating today. History will always look on bands like the CREAM with great affection but it's 2001. We should all get off our arses and slip "shadows" into the car CD and head down to the beach for a surf, nice cold beer and a dose of great rock n roll! Don't forget us here in OZ Jack. The barbie's primed, the beer's cold and we're ready to rock to the Cuicoland Express. If you manage to get down here early next year on your tour, summer will be in full swing and i'm sure a cruise on Sydney Harbour can be organised by your faithful legion of fans. Maybe a little acoustic set on the deck, eh jack. All the best, Phil.

It's good to hear the positive response to the release of "Shadows in the Air". Unfortunately have not yet got my hands on a copy. Phil Watson, if you have a copy could you let me know where in Sydney you got it.

Any visitors to this site would do well to take up Marc Wickert's advice and join the "Cuicoland Express". Marc, Lorraine, Dennis and Judy put out a regular and enjoyable newsletter. You can e-mail them at friendsofjbruce@hotmail.com.

Note for Australian fans - Marc has suggested e-mailing requests for tracks off the new album to the programming departments of local fm stations. Addresses for appropriate requests include: triplejweb@triplej.abc.net.au (Triple J) www.mrock.com.au (Triple M) and http://www.nova969.com.au/dmglistener/

Let's bombard the stations with requests.

Sorry for hogging the guestbook, Derek, but I just wanted to let the Aussie fans know that I obtained a copy of "Shadows in the Air" from Redeye Records in King Street, Sydney. It's an imported version I gather, as they told me it hasn't been released here yet. I don't know how many they've got. It was pleasing that as soon as I asked for the CD the guy behind the counter knew exactly what I was looking for. They also stock the edited version of Jack's 50th birthday concert and at least one copy of "How's Tricks". They even had "Songs for a Tailor". Not bad for the antipodes.

I recently asked in the Cuicoland Express for help with the fingering to the chords for "Rope Ladder". So far no luck. Jack, any chance you could help me out. My attempts at the chords set out in the sheet music album "Jack Bruce at His Best" sound nothing like the recording. Perhaps that's just my lousy guitar playing ability.

So far I really like the album but have been playing it at work and have had to keep the volume down. I was particularly pleased to hear the new version of "He the Richmond". I've always loved that song.

Spread the word - "Shadows in the Air" is here. Let's hope Jack will be here in the very near future.

Hey Jack,

Had the pleasure of getting the new release yesterday. I also had the privilege of catching the show at the Jazz Cafe. What a night!!! After the show we were hanging out with the band we were treated as frieds. I was able to take some great pictures of most of the band as well as Pete and Kip. You were very gracious at the end of the evening, spent some time talking with me and let me capture you on film as well.I would like to send you the pictures. Please advise. I can send them electronically or in hard copy.

Thanks for a lifetime of influences,

...then I apologize for furthering what is apparently a horrendous misquote.

By the way, I've been listening to SHADOWS for some time now. You have surrounded yourself with some terrific people, thereby giving your CREAMY stuff a fresh perspective. The new stuff belongs fully to the present, and stands on its own. However, would you not have had the Ginger man in on 1 or 2 of the remakes were it do-able? Or even a new tune. He doesn't strike me as too stuck in the past to have handled it. His solo and ensemble work bears witness.

Having played a benefit or 10 myself, raising money for the hungry, the homeless or otherwise needy is not a bad thing. In your collective case, it would help neutralize the "just for the $'s" carping that would inevitably ensue. Simply going out on tour and saying "Hi, it's us again - here's the same old sh*t - $250 for the good seats" - now, that would be unseemly.

I admit that, having learned by seeing and hearing CREAM, WHO, MILES, MAHAARDVARK (having missed JIMI to my eternal regret), I indeed prefer it when gifted and strong players get together and challenge one another.

Not a CREAM redux or a tribute to some long ago time and place, but a here and now thing while time allows.

So good luck and best wishes, be it with the CUICOs, the CREAMETTES, the LUNCHTIMES or whatever you choose to call it - your fire burns bright.

I have just bought "Shadows In The Air" which is great. Another excellent addition to Jack's fine collection of solo albums. It's nice to hear the revisitations of "Sunshine", "White Room", etc. and even nicer to hear the new stuff. This album has a nice atmosphere to it and is certainly a combination of Jack's own eclectic styles with the feel of some of his outings with Kip Hanrahan. It has a cool cover as well. It is semi-permanently in my CD player for the time being!!!

I also have a couple of questions perhaps Jack, Derek or any other website visitors might be able to answer:

(a) Everybody knows the story about how "Disraeli Gears" got its title, and much of the other Cream releases have self-explanatory names - but I've never be able to find out why "Wheels Of Fire" was so called. It's been bugging me all these years. Not even Cream experts like John Platt (whom I've met on a couple of occasions in New York) or Harry Shapiro knew this one when I asked them?

(b) When is a decent unedited and un-messed-around with version of the Cream "Farewell Concert" going to be released on Video or DVD? I remember seeing the film when it did the round of the cinemas in the 1970's and it was far more complete than any of the various versions to be released on video since.

(c) Is there any more Lifetime material in the can? It would be particularly nice to hear some live stuff from messrs Bruce, McLaughlin, Young and Williams.

(d) Are there any plans by Polygram to do the decent thing and release the "Jet Set Jewel" record in its entirety? The few tracks which appeared on "Willpower" suggest that we have been deprived of a classic similar to "How's Tricks".

Finally, I look forward to seeing Jack with his new band at some point - I think the last time I saw him play was at The Grand in Clapham in 1993 - and before that at The Bottom Line in NYC in 1988 (yes the one where you-know-who turned up) - its been too long since I got a chance to see the man play!

Hello, My copy of Shadows in the Air came yesterday in the mail. This is the best Jack Bruce album, ever, as I listened to it twice it took my breath away with it's passion. This work of Jacks' is quite possibly the best album of all time next to Miles Davis' Sketches of Spain. Shadows is incredible. INCREDIBLE ! Our bass hero is better than ever. And if the 2 Cream remakes get airplay there might just be a sleeper of a hit on the verge of happening. Wouldn't it be cool to hear Jack and Eric singing on the airwaves again ? Hello Jack, I'm nearly fifty years old and I've been listening to you since I was 15, from The early Graham Bond days through to the present. Being a bass player myself I fell head over heels with your bass playing from an early age. At last! there was someone with talent, imagination and the balls to play the bloody thing properly (not some muffled trite lines in the background). Your songs and your playing have and will always move me more than any other player or musician. I am a critical bastard by nature, you are one of the very few players I could write this about. Thanks Jack, keep doing it. It has in fact been my lifetime ambition to meet you (hope that doesn't sound too sad).

Jack, Today is saturday, I bought the new disc on Tuesday. I have not listened to anything else. I am so emersed that I wouldn't be able to even think of sonething else to play. I find that I am waking up in the middle of the night with various different passages playing in my head. It's so infectious!! On Thursday an aquaintence of mine told me he was disapointed. I thought for a moment, and this was my response: a Jack Bruce album is like a Stanley Kubrick film, every time you watch it, or, in this case, listen to it. you make new discoveries. I have been a fan since the opening chords of 'I Feel Free ' in 1966. Thank you, for a lifetime of discoveries...

by the way, after a few more listenings, my disapointed friend is not disapointed anymore.

Jack, Your new album, Shadows, is great! I've taken the liberty of scanning a pic from it to replace the picture that used to be on this site's home page for my humble page dedicated to you on my music web site. I must say that although I am not a huge fan of Eric Clapton (mostly because I feel he is overrated by so many) I very much enjoyed the work he did with you on Shadows. You definitely bring out the best in him. Your singing together on Sunshine was wonderful! I bought Disraeli Gears when it first came out. Your voice is still stronger than Erics but he did a good job with you on that. By the way on my web site your page is the second most viewed after Stevie Wonder but you are gaining on him and Ginger Baker is gaining on you.

Best wishes and thanks for the great music!

Jack I hope you get a chance to read this. Anyway, just got through listening to "Shadows In The Air" , in a word....GREAT!! and then some!! Everytime you think Jack cannot sound, play, and compose and as great as his last solo effort.......he out does himself. Such is the case with this superb combination of jack's compositions with a Latin flair. His treatments of some fine oldies like Creams "Sunshine of your Love" and "White Room" take on a new life with the addition of some slick percussion of Andy Flores and Milton Cardona. A name were all familiar with Eric Clapton...........by the way, when playing with Jack tranforms into Clapton of old, really ripping out some awesome notes, never sounded better. Playing with Jack I guess has that effect on Clapton. Anyway to continue, his solo "repros" "Boston Ball Game 1967 and "He the Richmond" are performed beautifully. Jack's voice is in TOP SOUNDING CONDITION!! I loved the remake of "Out Into The Field's" just fantastic!! All the remaining cuts of this CD were GREAT!! (I'm using that word alot here, can't help it) Anyway, Jack is also joined with a bunch of the best musicians (as usual)anywere!! Gary Moore, Vernon Reid, Robby Ameen Horacio Hernandez, Andy Gonzalez and a host of others. If you had'nt already gone out and purchased this CD............What are you waiting for? Do It NOW!!! and begin the musical journey that Jack provides. Who knows...maybe a Cream reunion is in the making.................

A response specifically for Howard Johnston with regard to where "Wheels of Fire" derived its'name. I'll put my two cents worth in and say that I have read more than once that the album was named after a Bob Dylan song..."This Wheel's on Fire". I could be wrong cuz I've never heard of such a Dylan song which, of course, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Perhaps JB himself could either confirm or deny?

Loved Shadows in the Air and even felt compelled to write a review for it on Amazon.com. Check it out if you like...nuthin great...just a Bruce fan doing a bit of gushing!! LOL

Jack, I am thrilled to see you still working. Being from St. Louis, Missouri in the US, I don't get to hear much from you or about you these days. Very dissapointed that Clapton took a pass on a reunion. That would have been a monumental event. Saw he and Baker on the Blind Faith tour in early 70's, and got to see you at Pauls'Mall in '78 or '79 in Boston, while attending the Berklee College of Music. It is a regret of mine not to have stepped up to say hello, you having been one very crucial reason for my decision to take up music, and the bass, in particular. We are older, now, and if I do not get a chance to meet you in this lifetime, I just want to let you know, from one more bass player/composer how strong an impact you have had on my life. You have given bass players a perspective of themselves as musicians, not just "bass players". I respect and admire your courage in always pursuing the "road less traveled by" in all of your endeavors.

Thanks, again, for lending an "ear", and best of luck in all that you do.

How about doing a tour of Britain, I was sat reading the paper on the morning of your Castle Donnington gig annoyed that I had not seen it anywhere before so that I could have come. Not having seen any other dates I assume it was a one off? I can suggest a really good venue, the Stables in Wavendon (Milton Keynes) Cleo Laine/Johnny Dankworths little place, but anywhere would do.

Now that I've found this site I will check regularly for touring information etc. I may even try to work out how to put the address in "favourites" but it may be beyond me.

Thanks a lot Jack, you have covered all my emotions in your music and Pete Brown with his lyrics, a constant companion on vinyl and cd these last 35+ years.

To our hero Jack,

We'd like to say that Cream has been a major influence on our band (we play 9 cream tunes) and that you have been a major influence on me. We regularly play "N.S.U." and "Deserted Cities of the Heart" for crowds and they, young and old, still love it!

Just gave Jack's latest a first listening (other than in a 100 degree car). Nice work. Jack, like other fine things, gets better with age. Nice work by all parties involved. Really like the new treatment of "Out Into The Fields". The "Directions Home" is nice, too. As for the other songs presented here as restatements, they all hold up well in their new interpretations.

I also thought "Surge" was quite fun.

Jack, plesae bring this band to the U.S. (including Mr. Reid, if possible).

Thanks for the great work, it's very enjoyable listening.

Mr. Bruce is pure inspiration! I've recently switched from guitar to bass and Bruce work is the stuff I'm learning to play. His background solo in "Crossroads" is the best part of Cream. He is the Best!

Hi Jack, Long time fan, and like so many, a bass player. Ran right out on the 10th and got a copy of Shadows....love it!! Directions Home probably my favorite. 52nd St. sounds like you could do with the Andy Summers lineup, did it originate from there?. So many beautiful, interesting melodies, as always. Kip's words give you a whole new twist, more of a story teller instead of Pete's word visions....but love both styles. Can't wait to see you in Chicago, I'm betting that on the bass portion of the show you won't be able to help yourself with all that percussion!! Will you grace us with a couple of the solo piano tunes from Monkjack as well? No one ever talks about your piano talents, but that's always seemed to me the core of so many of your solo albums really. May I request a song for the tour? The added percussion seems like a wonderful time to dust off what I feel is one of your best tunes, "The Consul At Sunset" from Harmony Row. Just seems to me that this band is perfect for it. So, hope to see you soon in Chicago, thanks for the new album, and please remember that for me and so many of your fans the "safest place in the world" has your music playing 24/7.

Dear Mr. Bruce,

Having been an avid listener to your music from the age of four (two of my brothers were and are keen fans of The Cream and yourself), I must say I was delightfully surprised when I heard your new cd 'Shadows in the air'. Man, you still sing and play with an energy which is just unbeliveable! I love this cd! Can't wait to play it to my brothers.

Thankyou for your inspiration and keep up the good work.

I love "Shadows In The Air"! Jack's voice sounds as great as it ever did on all the songs. I've always loved his soto voce style of singing, which he features in "Out Into The Fields" (one of my all-time favorite Bruce/Brown songs). I have been searching for many years for "Harmony Row" and "Out Of The Storm" on CD without any luck. Is there any chance that these will be released soon? I am so tempted to transfer my old Jack Bruce LPs over to CD, scratches and all!

This is in response to Dennis's item:-

My top 4 (wish it was Top 5!) would be :- 1. Dark Heart 2. Directions Home 3. Out into the Fields 4. Heart Quake

This was a very tough decision as I would prefer to have made them all number 1!!

As regards the most commercial, it depends on what the "target market" is. Serious Jackites aren't going to buy it (unless some rarity/s is included). If it is to re-awaken some dormant fans or to perhaps get the Clapton collectors on board, I think "Sunshine of your Love" perhaps re-title Sunshine 2001!! must be the natural choice. So, my 4 would be:-

1. Sunshine 2. He the Richmond 3. Dancing on Air 4. 52nd Street

All through Jack's career my favourites have been "the ballads" (for want of a better word) which regretably until now, receive little airing on his (rare) live performances. It is good to see that others appreciate these songs and even better to see my selection above performed live at the Jazz Cafe. Hopefully they will all remain in the repertoire for the forthcoming tour. The performance of Out into the Fields, second song into the set, really had the hairs standing on the back of my neck and when other similar "ballads" followed - it really made it the most memorable Jack gig so far. His voice seems to get even better, tackling ever increasingly complex melody lines, at the same time as coaxing those groans, slides and riffs from the superb Warwick. I do feel that his melody writing and performance produces some of the most emotional music I have ever heard. This current musical vehicle seems to be propelling Jack to even greater heights - long may the Express roll!!

Jack, I'ts great to see you getting a tour schedule together, especially with the liklehood of Aussie dates included!!! Many mouths are salivating in this country at the chance of at last of seeing you LIVE...an experience that I for one have waited over 35 years for. All the lucky buggers that have seen you over and over again in other parts of the world have been spoilt rotten. We are so jealous over here in OZ, but with this tour all will be forgiven! I can just imagine you and the band cracking a big wave down at Bondi Beach, hooking into a nice cold Crown lager and then rocking the roof off the theatre. The new album is a classic! Just purchased Shadows in the Air.

Brilliant reworking of some oldies, they sound so much unlike the origionals they could be origionals in their own right.

The new stuff, just great, good to hear the oldies making new sounds without the addition of the multi faceted electronic wizardary that abounds today.

Just damn goog quality music I can listen to in an intelligent way, without having my ears or my intelligence insulted. Say it again, brilliant music, brilliant words and what a voice, what more could we want.

Many thanks.

Well, this is my first entry in Jack's diary so I must first of all say how much Jack and his music has changed my life. He is a one of the all time greats and will forever have a huge impact on music itself. Bach, Beethoven, Bruce, whats the difference? At a time in my life when I was so tired of modern music and the radio in general, I found Jack and his solo career. His music is very spiritual, and everything he does is just unbelieveable. His bass playing blows me away every time I hear it. Not to mention his singing, composition, etc. Listen to the live cream jams, nobody has even come close to sounding quite like that, still to this day. I wanted to suggest to Jack and his management somehow to see about getting an interview on the Howard Stern show when he is in New York. Howard has mentioned several times how much he loves Jack and if he did an interview with him I think it would help promote "Shadows" in the States and Canada, in a big way. Thanks for everything Jack!

Having ended up at the Jack Bruce web site from a link at a great newsgroup at bcoles92865@yahoo.com it's great to know the old-timer is still workin' hard. The last I remember of Jack is when I bought the "Out of the Storm" LP. I've since got some BBM on CD which was good, but there's still nothing to compare with Jack's unique sound, ideas and production. I didn't really know there was so much out there from these in-between years. That free subscription to Brian Coles newsgroup is going to cost me a lot of money as I go out to catch up on all the stuff i've missed out on. One thing i've noticed in this guestbook is the constant references to the Cream days (there! even i'm doing it) They were 30+ years ago! Surely there's more to talk about? It must be very frustrating for Jack. How about some more comments for the likes of me, about the more recent stuff?

Just checked out the new JB cd. I have to admit,I was skeptical about remakes of the classic songs. I was pleasantly surprized. He(and friends) definately reinvented the tunes! Especially exhilarating was the CREAM stuff. It sounded very fresh, and would be worth the price of the disk by itself. Jack and Eric still have the old magic. One can only hope...

I've listened to Shadows a few more times, and I find it absolutely riveting. Per Dennis' request: Most commercial: 1. Dark Heart-Go with your strength! If you could get airplay for it on the right stations, this could be a big winner. 2.White room- upbeat, a little catchier sounding than Sunshine. 3.Windowless rooms-nice hooks and beat. 4.Heart Quake.

My faves:(This is tough- I like everything on this CD- a rarity!) 1. Dark Heart- I'm hearing this over and over in my dreams- that's something that doesn't happen very often! This is as close to perfection as it gets in "popular" music. 2.Directions Home 3.Out into the fields 4.He the richmond Once again- thanks and congratulations!

I've just gotten "Shadows in the Air"and love it of course...and this keeps my JB discography complete and current. Not long ago I got a copy of Kip Hanrahan's 2-disc tribute to Paul Haines,"Darn It". I was very excited at the prospect of Jack playing with Paul Bley having read that they both appeared on the recording. Bley did the best ever recording featuring Jaco Pastorius and I was enthralled at the notion of Jack Bruce on electric bass with Paul Bley on keyboards. Alas, they appear on seperate tracks, but beautiful work by both of these great artists!

Bob - I share your yearnings to hear and feel, again, the thundercrack that was Cream...but our hero needs to live in his present. And we, as the recipients of his talents, owe him at least that much. Nothing is/was ruined, other than our preconceptions. Judge not, lest ye be. In other words, get over it and live for the present and future. Anyway, who knows - 'Ol Lizard Eyes may yet bore (even) himself back into action, assuming then-current relevance for all 3. It's a tall order, though - our champion plays on a much vaster plain.

This PLee fellow seems to know exactly what your music is all about & I admire him for his knowledge. I know what your music's about too & if I were Jack Bruce I'd be collaborating with that Mike Mantler fellow as well as Gary & Clem & create music that would fry even the narrowest of musical minds.

P.S.

WB&L & Mountain are still the Kings of hard rock.!

I have just been perusing the JB Guestbook and I am amazed to read Bob Inman's comments about "Shadows In The Air"; as I'm sure a lot of other fans will be.

Obviously, he is entitled to his opinions, but I think he dismisses it far far too quickly. It is entirely a matter of taste as to whether "S.I.T.A." is Jack's best offering to date - BUT - it is certainly ONE of his best. In my opinion it is an excellent record and compares well with his other solo releases. It has wonderful production, and, as always with Jack's records an interesting mix of compositions and unusual arrangements. Of course with such classics as "Harmony Row", "How's Tricks", "A Question Of Time", (and all the others) already under his belt - he has set such a continually high standard to follow. But he always succeeds.

In this instance he has done a great job. I think "S.I.T.A." truly represents where he is now as a musician and songwriter. It combines all the various dimensions of his past interests: Rock; Blues; Jazz; and ballads in a seamless manner. It reflects not just the success of his songwriting partnership with Pete Brown, but also how his compositions with Kip Hanrahan have ripened. It is Jack Bruce in 2001 continuing to demonstrate that a serious musician must progress and develop (as he always has) whilst remaining both faithful to his roots, and respectful of his past. I can't make up my mind which track I like best at the moment - it's a toss-up between "Dark Heart" and "Directions Home".

Of course it's also nice to see Eric, Gary and the others contributing and enriching the process.

So comparisons with Cream seem entirely pointless to me. Cream were of course monumentally important. We all LOVE that band. In my opinion they were the finest and most original rock band ever to emerge from these islands. I could spend all day discussing their brilliance, but what's the point? It was afterall 33 years ago. You can't blame Jack (and the others) from wanting to draw attention to other aspects of their careers - especially the present.

Jack remains interesting because he has continually changed and evolved. There are a whole string of artists and bands who get locked in some kind of timewarp - just retreading the same old ground. This is ultimately a waste of time - you have to move on and explore. Creativity goes hand-in-hand with innovation.

That's what I think anyway.

I would also like to say that along with Ron Gamble, I too would like to see reissued/remastered versions of his solo albums (perhaps with extra tracks)also including the posthumous release of "Jet Set Jewel" in its entirety. It is worth pointing out that Polygram have already given "Songs For a Tailor" a remastered overhaul. Perhaps there is also scope for an updated (and more comprehensive) version of "Willpower" (perhaps with more previously unreleased tracks)and definitely the aborted collection of blues recordings Jack was making in the late 1980s.

Finally, if it is permitted - and I must admit it is an entirely self-indulgent request - perhaps Jack might consider a project along the following lines some day. Of all the artists in the 1990s who released an acoustic "Unplugged" set, only a very few succeeded in pulling it off in my opinion. Eric did, and so did Neil Young and perhaps one or two others. Jack's material and his multi-instrumental abilities lend themselves perfectly to this format. I'm surprised he hasn't tried it out thus far.

I think it would fit in very nicely with the latin /percussive approach he now favours, and there are many many songs which would work very well in this respect. Some could be acoustic guitar-based; some piano-based; some featuring the acoustic bass; and of course one or two on the harmonica. Arguably it is an extension of the direction he had already started upon with "Monkjack".

Of course the title for such a project is obvious: Jack Bruce - "UnJackPlugged" .... Just a thought.

G'Day Guys, Justa few comments about what has been said about J.B's new album . I personally love the cd. I really like the remakes of the old tracks, but I must admit to preferring the original of " He The Richmond". Jack's open tuned guitars sound lovely on the old cd ( and record ) " Songs For A Tailor " . As most people have said , Mr Bruce continues to exband as a musician and song writer . We have to remember that he is no longer a young man , and that something as huge as Cream will not happen . So what ? We still have several brilliant solo albums to enjoy , as well as the old stuff . I love Jimi Hendrix , but if he was still with us , I bet his music would be very toned down from what it was in the '60s. We all get older , taste comes with age . Jack Bruce's music is timeless , all great art is. Paul.

The majestic beauty of Jack Bruce's music comes not so much from where he puts the notes, as much as it derives from where he puts the spaces. Listening to Jack's music is like viewing a 3-D picture; it has depth and perspective. Most rock music can make you tap your foot; Jack's music can make you cry. He is rock's Bach. There is no finer musician on planet Earth than Jack Bruce. Thank you, Jack, for the pleasure your music has brought to my ears and my soul!

No matter what song I`m playing in our local band, the guys tell me it sounds like you. Your agressive style has been a great influence on me. I saw you play at the Station in Wilkes- Barre, Pa. back in the 80`s. Can`t wait for the new album and maybe the tour. Keep on jammin`

Hey, Howard Johnston of Chester, England - Jack did his version of Unplugged in Edinburgh and at the QEH in London prior to the release of Monkjack. It contained the Monjack material but also he did piano versions of lots of material from down the ages as I think he uses the piano mainly to compose his excellent songs. Sorry you missed it - it was excellent!! Perhaps he can be persuaded to do it again some time - what about it Jack? Go see him on his October gigs - the new band is brilliant as is the material. See you at Manchester, Howard on the 7th October!!!

Jack's first three albums after leaving Cream were brilliant, but I had lost touch with his recordings since 'How's Tricks'. I'm really enjoying 'Shadows in the Air'. Jack's voice is still great and I'm really looking forward to seeing him again when he comes back (home) to Glasgow on 6th October to play at The Fruitmarket. I would be interested to know of any other gems I may have missed in the intervening years.

What a great White Room on Shadows! Wheels of Fire is still a brilliant album and I listen to it often - I'm on my fourth copy! But time moves on and I'm delighted Jack's finally coming north again. I was turned away at Sheffield Student's Union in 1970 cos I was too young, then went down to Hyde Park in 1971 and tried camping out, but was foiled by the police, then saw Lifetime in Sheffield and since then I've never been where he's performing. It has been a long wait, but I will not be disappointed. Do it again soon, Jack.

Jack,

Finally got a copy of Shadows in the Air. The way that you used the drums and percussion throughout the album was incredible. As a writer you always seem to be able to take it to the next level. Like the first time that I heard "Politician". The most profound statement coming from the simplest thought. As I have listened to your work over the years, that appears to be your trademark. "As you Said" is another shining example of that.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that there is one more satisfied listener of yours out there. Thanks, again, for your time.

Barry Seigel.

Great web site!! As a fan since sunshine of your love, all I can say is that I'm still enjoying Jacks music, new and old. The new album is great. I find myself playing it over and over. White room with the percussion comes across as a totally new song and the new songs are great! Glad to see out over the fields. It's better than the original. For years there have been rumors of a complete unreleased album with Tony Williams. Has anybody ever heard any of it?

I will try to write in english.

I am the leader voice and the bassman of a band in my city. the name's band is MITOMANOS and we play a lot of Cream songs.

It would be a dream for us to have any contact with any Cream member.

I want to thank you for give me the chance to sing the real lyrics of many great songs.

Eric Clapton is coming for second time to our country, Chile, after almost fifteen years. I wish I could go to his concert, I don't know by now.

Please don't forget me and remember that we (the band) will wait any contact. We really love Cream music (specially live performances).

Good bye and thank you wherever you are...

HI Jack Bruce, You are a man of volumes, and where does a long time fan begin who has had many years of great musical memories , many trivia questions , and just a helluva lot of fun . I think Cream was one of the great "Wonders of the World", three guys who were like three pieces of a puzzle , the three corners of a musical pyramid that provided so much for so many , then went out with a bang like a great comet . Cream was the "James Dean" of Rock and Roll, too fast too live and to young to die". But of the three , as much as I dug Eric and Ginger, I was blown away by the depth , the fire, the versality and heart of your musicianship and have followed your exciting journey of so many musical roads. I jusy want say "Thanks Jack", for opening my mind to so many different styles of music and culture. You are a "Jack"-of all musical trades(instrmentally speaking),but a master of one------ THE BASS

Frank Mena

{P.S.- Does anybody remember whatever happened to that short two-subject biography film of Jack and Pederovsky, that started off with Jack sitting on a cliff overlooking the ocean's crashing waves strumming this giant black acoustic guitar and wearing this massive black hat , the eery strumming broke into Rope Ladder to the Moon. It was awesome. I'm assuming that was Jack's old island of Sanda).

To Jack and to all that are embarking on the "Shadows In The Air" tour.Have a great time. I'm sure you will be warmly welcomed and the concerts will be well supported with capacity crowds of fans and friends who have been looking forward to seeing you again or for many the first time. I'm sure that the expense associated with a tour of such proportions will be outweighed by growing CD sales of your masterful new release plus the older ones still in print as well as associated merchandising. Your tour of the US will be a blessing ,and give our friends something positive to look forward to and enjoy and take their mind off their current despair (even if it's only for a short time). To friends in Australia ,it's a moment of a lifetime and for many because of the size of our wonderful country a bit of a logistical nightmare to co-ordinate to ensure we see as much of you and the band as possible. Marc and I and your friends in Oz would endear the opportunity to meet you and the band if that was at all possible maybe over a few lagers (or in Marc and Lorraine's case a few Jack Daniel's) Also as it is the last leg of your tour, Australia is a great holiday destination for a bit of rest and respite ! Kind regards and have a ball. Dennis

Jack Bruce is still my favorite bass player of all time! This is a great website so we fans can find out when you'll be playing a concert we can get to. The only time I saw Jack play live was as part of Ringo's All-Star Band in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, around 1999. What impressed and amazed me was that Jack was passionate and enthusiatic about playing not only his own songs but also the other stars' songs that had very weak basslines, such as Ringo's pop songs. Jack is the only member of Cream who could still match the artistry they displayed on "Wheels of Fire." Hurry on back to Florida, Jack!

Dear Jack, From time to time over the past decade, both yourself, Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker have all stated individually your interest in regrouping Cream if the timing and reasons were right. I am suggesting to you that as a result of the tragic events in New York and Washington on September 11, the timing and reasons are now right. What better reason can you find than humanitarian relief aid to the victims of this disaster? An album, a concert, or a series of concerts with the proceeds going to benefit the Red Cross or similar organization, would be a wonderful gesture from the three of you. I hope you will give this idea consideration. Sincerely, Rob Peters

Hi Jack! I'm 42 and since the first time I saw you with WBL in Paris in 72 your music has always been following me. I just didn't understand a guy could do this with a bass guitar, playing so fast and with such a feeling... Every part of my life is associated with one of your song. Sadness is the root of any creation, and you made with Pete Brown some of the most beautiful songs never writen. Just a question. My english isn't so good so in your first albums with cream or in song for a tailor when you're rolling the "r", is this the scottish accent, or is this a joke? :)
