Whilst working back late one night I had a few too many drinks and wrote to Marc and Dennis' Quicoland Express expressing doubts that Jack would come to Australia. I had come to that view because Jack was due to tour Japan and if Jackwas to tour OZ then it made sense he would do so at the same time. I hoped that I was wrong but now feel pissed off to find I was right.
I read in one of Jack's diary entries a throwaway line about "suits". Jack, I am a suit. I'm a f*****g lawyer for my sins. But i have loved your music since about 1968 and have continued to pick up what little morsels I have been able of your output. And maybe you should have a look at those who act for you wearing suits and the way they have ostracised and enraged what has been a potentially captive audience for you for the last thirty odd years.
So many comments have been made on this site and the Quicoland Express about your never having been prepared to sell out. Eric and others have been pilloried on this site for so doing.
We in Australia accepted your excuse for not coming with the Ultimate Rock Symphony - I have no doubt that in dealing with Oz promoters you were dealing with Cowboys. But i also have no doubt that situation exists universally. We accepted your (if it really was yours) promise that you would be out later that year with your new band. We thought that you might come out with Ringo. We were told at about the time of the release of "Shadows in the Air" that we would be part of a world tour. You are no doubt in or about Japan at the moment and on completion will return to US for gigs at the BB Kings. I'd like to wish you well for those tours and gigs but at the moment I couldn't give a fuck.
I will not be viewing this site again for news of Jacks OZ tour. I know it's not going to happen. But by the same token I'm not going to come back to find out what you're doing either. You have chosen a path that those advising you have presumably suggested. I'll accept that. If that means that in 10 years time I might find your 2003 or 2004 release in a bin in some record store I will probably buy it. But be buggered if I'm going to behave (like I have since I found this site) as a 10 year old teeny bopper waiting for my hero to arrive.
Many of my heroes of the 60s were plastic and have long since melted from their pedestals. You lasted longer than any but, as things presently stand, I'll get back to my own music and realise that I'm a fifty year old "suit from Down Under".
Best wishes for the future.

Why not agree to cover all deficits on an Aussie tour plus guarantee a reasonable profit? - that way, your conscience will be truly clear.

This whole site seems to have lost the excitement generated by the release of Shadows. There was so much hope from around the world for Jacks anticipated tour. Now it seems to have come to nowt (as we say in Yorkshire). Ive seen you twice this year but sympathise very much with the guy from Oz. I have suggested on this site that Jack takes the financial risk with help from the local expertise. I used to promote gigs in my younger days and when I tried to bring bigger artists to local venues, very quickly got put off by the excessive demands for booze, food and other extravagant entertainment apart from the money demanded in contracts and the tempremental behaviour of some names . I would have thought that (sorry P.Lee) more mature behaviour prevailed these days as we all are a lot older, with the music coming before the hellraising and indeed the need to make loadsamoney. We all love the music and the man but regretably our numbers are diminishing over time. Some stars of the 60s, get lucky breaks to regenerate an old hit or something our Jack just keeps moving on breaking new ground and thats why we love him. If the current band is too expensive to run, Im sure a quartet of Moore, Husband, Jack and a keyboard player could put together a brilliant repertoire of material from Cream to Cuicoland. Come on Jack the silence is killing us!! Just what is the problem?

I have read the two responses to my earlier gripe. Lest there be any misunderstanding the complaint which we Australians have is not that Jack is not coming here, but the complete absence of communication. I have followed Jack's career since about 67/68 and had until recent times never expected that he would tour here. I accepted Jack's explanation for not touring with the Ultimate Rock Symphony - problems with Australian promoters did not surprise. But we were assured Jack would come later that year. We were led to believe that Jack would tour Japan and Australia with his present band but it is not to be.
There have been entries by other Australians asking for some clarification but none has ever emerged.
I have heard from Dennis Lawrenson that he has been advised that a tour to Australia was not feasible because of the costs involved. Surely Jack's management could have let us know.
It's very easy for P Lee to sit smugly in NYC and suggest we fund a tour by Jack to Australia. For your information a group of us made enquiries about whether venues might have been available for Jack to do a solo gig when he was supposed to be here with Ultimate RS. One venue in particular was very interested. Billy Cobham played at the venue on a number of occasions as have many well known jazz/blues acts.
I hope the Quicoland Tour goes well and that Jack continues to produce quality music into the future. Surely we in Oz are entitled to vent our spleen occasionally.

This is addressed to all the wonderful loyal Jack Bruce fans in Australia!
I am very sad to have to tell you that at this moment we haven't found a suitable promoter who can offer enough money to cover the costs for a six piece band plus crew to tour Australia.
Jack would love to go to Australia and we will keep trying to make it happen!

Hi Margrit , Thank you for your response regarding the Australian tour.Although dissapointing to Ozzie fans let's hope Jack can get to tour here one day. I am making my flight bookings next week and will be attending both concerts at BB Kings on the 14/6 & 15/6. It's a trip of a lifetime and to see Jack is the iceing on the cake. It's my first venture out of Oz ,but will be attending with some great mates from New Jersey .Namely Mitch Kane and Charles Gerard.I hope to catch up with as many people as possible even Pete Lee ,that could be an interesting conversation. You never know he might even be a nice guy underneath all his bravado ! Kind regards, Dennis

JB:
I'm only twenty five, and yet I live for the music of the time of your youth. I despise, with the upmost passion, todays music scene. "Cream" is easily my favourite band ever to exist; and Eric is clearly the odd man out, talent-wise, of YOUR former trio. I began to follow your solo career as well, and obviously you were the cream of Cream (yes, nevermind that "cream of Clapton" stuff, he rode Ginger and your coattails and anyone with any musical understanding would never argue differently.) Your versitility, both instrumentally and as a singer, is unmatched. The essence of your songs are timeless. How could one listen to, lets say, for example, Matthew Good, when he is just a diluted version of what was once an era of true artists. You, and the musicians of your early age, are like the ancient Greeks. Your music, and their philosophies, covered everything the world could ever need or understand. Only improvement could occur: And at this, your achievements may stand above that of the ancients (with respect to philosophy.) I do hope that you actually read this message, or homage if you like, but I doubt that will happen. Otherwise, I hope the eventual reader of this small note understands and agrees wholeheartedly with the opinions here expressed. I'm in Korea right now teaching English, and unfortunately I can't make it to Japan to see the legend in the flesh. This saddens me greatly, but I'm also happy that you are a close to me as ever before. I know I'll pay to see you play before you stop, and that knowing is good enough for now. Jack Bruce, you are a legend, and its a shame that others of my generation are too ignorant, and lazy to take the time to fully realize your godliness.
Most Sincerely, and Wholly, Trevor Andrews
P.S. This is the first letter I've written to anyone considered a celebrity. And it will be my last for I kneel before no living man, save Jack Bruce.

from the time of trying to savvy out the remarkable bruce-brown early tunes o getting the brand new 'songs for a tailor' and on thru 'in from thje storm', 'escalator over the hill', & 'no answer', i have always found the jack bruce records to be rewarding and somewhat challenging to my ears. i enjoyd the double concert lp of a few years back very much. but the great treat for me recently has been the prominence of jack bruce on mike mantler's, live 88 and many have no speech. fine fine work. good luck and sure hope to see mr jack at the new orleans jazz and heritage fair some time ! he would be a huge asset to the line up ( on jazz blues or rock stage!, i dunno 'bout de zydeco for jack he got his washboard maybe?. p.s. only saw jb, one time , here in nola at the warehouse 2nd time westbrucelaing came to town. hey also when they reissuded tony williams emergency that was a treat!, maybe things we likeis available again, huh, lemme see....well , again, good luck and much respect

Dear Jack
Unless I am mistaken, your first recorded release was playing on an Alexis Korner track (album maybe?) back in 1962. Therefore, this year of 2002 must be something of an anniversary - 40 years in the business (in terms of releasing records). So CONGRATULATIONS and THANKS for all the fantastic and deeply inspiring music over those four decades.
I look forward to whatever is coming along next, because ..."the best is still to come"... of that I am sure.
I still remember the first time I saw you play at Salford University in 1977 ("How's Tricks" tour) which was stunning, as equally was my most recent gig of yours at Manchester Bridgewater Hall last Autumn.
Regards and appreciation from a fan and (fairly) regular visitor to the site.

Jack, you may be the greatest bass player since JS Bach. Although I have never took up bass, I have been a humble student of all manner of guitar music for the past 37 years. Now at age 47 I am going to give you the best musical idea I've had in the past 37 years. As a former press photographer in Toronto I had the pleasure to photograph and meet some of the true greats of the guitar - John McLaughlin, Paco de Lucia, Paco Pena, many other of the masters, and have always enjoyed speaking with them about the source of their inspiration, practice techniques, and hope that a small bit of that spark might be shared. Last November, near Toronto, I attended a workshop on Godin guitars, held by guitar maker Robert Godin from Quebec, Canada. At this small, quiet music shop, he brought in a young man none of us in the small crowd of about 50 guitarist, had ever heard of before - SYLVAIN LUC, from Bayonne, France, now in Paris. Sylvain was returning from a tour in Japan, on his way back to France, so Robert was lucky to get 10 days out of his schedule for a stop over in Canada. For 2 hours that evening, 40 of us in that little music shop had an indescribable musical encounter with this young 37 year old, playing solo, with more power than I have ever witnessed. As Robert Godin warned us when introducing Sylvain, "If you are a guitar player, you may not pick up your guitar for a few days after you hear Sylvain". Be forewarned. Having now heard almost all of the CD's Sylvain has made in Europe, I can tell you that none of them come close to his pure, solo performance - Sylvain please make a simple live album of your SOLO PERFORMANCE. Here's my wish for a incomparable fusion band. Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, Sylvain Luc, and John McLaughlin. Jack please think about this for your next tour. Make a CD, DVD, and go around the world. You will pack them in. You will make history again. Please find Sylvain and John, and get Ginger to come out with you. Graham Bond Organization Lives Again? With Sylvain you would have an incomparable synergy. It would be incomparable. John and Sylvain must make a CD together. The world needs some great music. I heard that Sylvain just received the equivalent of the European Grammy for the top jazz guitar album of 2001. If Jimi were alive today, he'd be playing with Sylvain. Keep practicin Jack. You're going to make it big one day. Call Sylvain, John and Ginger, PLEASE!!

I was going to start this off with a swipe at a certain citizen of Philadelphia, but then I realised that I'd be perpetuating the mis-use of this site. So all I want to say now is that yes, it's sad that JB isn't coming to Oz, but it ain't the end of the world. Yes, economic reality suggests many valid reasons for the no-show. Not, I'm sure, that JB gives a shit about money per se...but I'm sure making a loss isn't right up there on his list of priorities either. So we wait, and collect CDs and memorabilia and have our discussions here and on the Cuicoland Express and continue to hope that the world keeps getting smaller so that economic reality doesn't mean we have to miss out again. I'm a RUSH fan too and I'm fairly sure I won't be seing them live either, unless I win the lottery. But I'll console myself with the knowledge that living in the best place on Earth happens to have a few draw-backs. Stiff shit, as we say. Why don't we stop sniping and just share our experiences? That's what these sites are for.
Cheers to ALL of you. Mark

Any chance of doing a some of his music in the future? I remember reading an interview with him and how he was totally taken by your playing and approach to music. There are only two bass players as far as I'm concerned and I've been fortunate enough to have heard and seen both of you. How about some memories of Felix. How about hooking up with Leslie West and Corky laing again, do some US dates and maybe perform some of Felix's music.

I just have one question, we all know why Zeppelin can't do it,the Beatles can't do it, the Experience can't do it, etc. They all have band members that have passed. But you, Jack Bruce, Clapton, and Ginger Baker are all still around. Why don't you guys, The Cream, do just one more tour together. I'm only 23, and if you have read my past signing, Jack Bruce, is truly an inspiration, I did not have the chance to see The Cream live. Only on video. Just think about it, and if you decide to, let me know, you can email me at mkoch@socal.rr.com
Thanks,

I think it's wonderful that Jack's music has reached people such as Nick Denisov in Russia and his fans in Australia. It's really unfortunate that Jack didn't get to Oz as soon as expected, but maybe if a double Live CD of Jack's latest world tour were released there would be more interest and promotors would start to see the potential bucks. There are still a lot of people who don't realise what Jack Bruce is doing today. I believe the release of a Live double CD would change that if it were marketed properly. Regards - Marc.

Sorry to hog the guest book, but I can't help thinking about a Live double CD from Jack. Last night my wife, Lorraine, and I went out for dinner (to a Mexican restaurant of all places) and the guy was playing music by Johnny Winter, S.R.Vaughan, B.B.King etc. and I asked him if he was a Jack Bruce fan and he said, "He was the bass player in Cream wasn't he." He didn't know Jack was playing the most incredible music today. He's about to find out! But I really believe a Live double CD marketed well would convert the planet and give them a wake up call. Regards - Marc.

Jack, Whilst being pissed off at the OZ tour being scrapped due to jelly-backed promoters in this country, I hope that you will soon avail yourself to these shores and tour with the Express. Some of the shit playing in Sydney this week include Destinys Child, Elton John, some bird called Shakira and Tool...a sad collection of so called talent if ever there was one! I know it is difficult to get promoters interested in artists that don't make a squillion dollars, but these greedy fuckers should take a look at this website and realise that there are thousands of Aussie music lovers who are left out in the cold when it comes to the GREAT bands and artists that still make fantastic music and tour the world on a regular basis. Playing at the Basement in Sydney over the next couple of weeks are Allan Holdsworth, Peter Green, Grant Lee Philips, Chad Wakerman and the Dave Weckl Band...guys that are well out of the mainstream but who tour here regularly and make a buck when they get over here. I am sure that there is a promoter in this country with the balls to organise a tour for your band...we've just gotta find the bastard!!! There are a few Aussies heading over to NYC to check out the BB King shows, I look forward to their reviews in Mark and Lorraine Wickert's excellent newsletter. If you cannot get over here in the next 12-18 months, I will have to get off my arse and come to you, a costly excersise but one well worth it. Best wishes, Phil.

Too busy?! All those insecure drummers and guitarists! Jack Bruce and Jack Casady were my founding influences as a bass player. The whole idea of Jack playing with Vernon Reid sound like a marvelous, if eccentric, match. Then again that is totally consistent with Jack's career to date.

Jack--I DO hope you read this! I am 41 and only recently realized while listening to "Spoonful," SF California Winterland version, that Cream, and in particular YOUR voice, was a deep part of my consciousness, kind of like the "Wallpaper" of my childhood mind. I must give you and Cream full credit for making an important and still active contribution to my spirit, my soul, if you will. Recently, I think I have listened to Spoonful about a hundred times. It just evokes a certain magic that is both frozen in time and timeless for me, and many other people I am certain. Thank you. Also--I must say, as a bassist myself, I think your voice is a perfect compliment to the bass guitar. Your voice is SO thick, textured and forceful. I love it like I love the sound of the bass guitar. I "Feel" your voice like I feel the neck of my old P-bass in my hand, and as I feel the resonance in my shoulders. Umm, humm. May you enjoy happiness always. Love and inspiration, my fellow being. --Niles W.

Just read Niles comments, and it started me thinking.I took-up bass in 1965.Had played drums for a few years, but at that time there were alot of drummers who were much better than I was,and very few bass players.I was in the service at the time, but I had the chance to play with a lot of different guys and picked up a lot,but for some reason I always figured I'd go back to drums at some point. I was sent to Viet Nam and got very few chances to play anything, but did get my hands on a bass from time to time.Came back in May'67,still thinking about drums. But for some reason when I picked up a bass I was much better than I remembered being. One day I walked into the Record City store at 13th&Fst in DC and the opening figure to I Feel Free.I said to myself "who the hell is this?".Then the instruments kicked in and that was it.I went home, pulled my bass out and never looked back.Been playing for over 35 years now.Jack has been my man ever since. If I live and play for another 35 years I doubt that I'll ever even approach the level of talent and soul of my hero. I have to take the opportunity to sound off a bit about Jack and this band- the Cuicoland Express (this will probably come out sounding a bit opinionated but that's what comment are). I have followed Jack's career closely for about 33 years now so I know most of Jack's music very well except for the pre-Cream material. I have to say Jack has put together a band like no other. I'm totally amazed that myself and my son are going to see Jack perform live twice in the same year- a six-month span actually. The last gig was outstanding in December in NYC at BB King's Blues Club (the perfect venue for seeing Jack perform live). Jack has never sounded better- his voice and use of it amazingly get better with time and that's to say nothing of his bass and keyboard playing; and I am also very pleased to see him playing more songs at the piano. They all sound excellent. I have never seen a musician more talented artist/musician than Jack Bruce and I have seen many performers through the years. He sings and plays his songs with a confidence and style I have rarely seen in anyone else. I also can't remember when I saw a muscian get off on playing live the way Jack does. The band is, definitely one of the tightest he has ever assembled, and is truly a band of very high caliber musicians, as always. With the legendary Bernie Worrell, (one of the coolest-yet wise, down-to-earth human beings I have ever met), the inimitable, inspired free-form riffing of Vernon Reid who, like Jack, goes to that 'next level' when playing- along with a rhythm section 'orchestra' which make an incredible sound together. I haven't seen too many musicians reach Jack's age and still be able to play at a level close to their peak, as he does, it's truly inspiring to see. Jack probably hasn't hit his peak yet- the best is still to come. See you in New York- Thank God! Thanks for everything Jack! Robert Clayton Bordentown, NJ

Looking back at some previous posts I noticed Phil Egan from 'Oz's note, my sentiments exactly, especially the nod to 'Harmony Row' (I wish I could be as concise as Mr. Egan.) It's really ridiculous that Jack Bruce should have any difficulty playing gigs in Austalia- baffling to say the least. Robert Clayton

One last time, in my first entry I forgot to proofread and found my typo after it was too late. I meant to say that I have never seen a more talented musician/artist than Jack Bruce (some may feel it redundant to differeniate artist from musician but to me, there are many great musicians who aren't truly creative artists the way that Jack is- you can be quite good tecnically but not be able to create or write a snit. Nuff said. Robert Clayton

Hey guys! I'm an Andy Summers fan and I hope you guys are looking forward to HotFlash 's release as much as I am! But I really wanted to ask was: Who did "The Coffee Song" first or more, to whom does it belong to? Cream or Dantalion's Chariot? Does anyone have any background info on it? I just love that song, and in the course of reading about Summers I read a bit about Dantalion's Chariot and a website geared in the Police direction listed "The Coffee Song" as a DC song. I read the lyrics out of curiousity and didn't think much about it until I got "Those Were the Days"-CD Box set and I saw it, listened to it and I couldn't believe it! The same song! I even went to the website to check and I was right....Any info would be helpful, thanks.

Hi, Jack! A friend of mine and I decided a couple days ago to design a power trio of over-rated musicians. On drums, Neil Peart of Rush. On Bass, Phil Lesh. On guitar, Eric Clapton. We both realize that you were the genious behind Cream. A close second was Ginger's wonderfully loose drumming. All in all, however, your thundering, roaming, and wonderfully melodic bass made the band what it was. I have enjoyed your solo career as well. When will we get to see you up here in the Pacific Northwest of the States? Peace, A.

Happy Birthday Mr. Bruce! Living proof that age truly is just a number. Jack, you have truly reached a higher plane with your playing and writing of late. NYC last December was an amazing and truly memorable show. I have had the good fortune to see you in concert at various points in your career, and have always been amazed at your enthusiasm and energy on stage, whether you're playing to 20,000 or 200 people at club gigs, you give so much of yourself: body, mind and soul. You really shine playing live with other great players. I don't think your voice has ever sounded better in concert- just magnificent. Sorry we have to wait 'til October for the next gigs but it's great to see you doing the tribute to The Beatles (who better than you- like the Beatles your music has always evolved and never stagnates, and you, like the Beatles have always been an innovator, always seeking to see how a song could be made into something completely new and fresh, ('Peices of Mind' & 'Like a Plate' come to mind straightaway) regardless of commercial acclaim- which is oft aimed at the most banal of music. Oh well, if life was fair, children wouldn't starving at this moment. Thanks for doing your part. It's truly a cool thing to see you finally getting the acclaim as a solo artist that you have always deserved, but for some strange reason (poor record company promotion may be one of the problems- you have always promoted your music with great bands and successful solo tours, but if the record companies got behind you a fraction of what they do for some artists, you certainly would have enjoyed much greater commercial succsess. But it's interesting to note that you don't really seem to care- you're making your music, your way and as an artist, you can't do better than that becuase it IS the music that matters- if lots of other people dig it fine, but you don't need that to be one of the most successfully creative musical minds influencing and entertaining three generations of listeners now. You have influenced more bass players than any other player- my 15 year-old among them. Thankfully, you never sold out. Happy Damn birthday Jack! ~Bob Clayton New Jersey, USA

Happy birthday! It was December 1980 when I saw you in New York. You dedicated "Bird Alone" to the very recently murdered John Lennon. Apologizing for not knowing any Beatles tunes well enough to play on such short notice, you had the grace and class to allow David Sancious to do an extended keyboard improvisation that ran through several Beatles motifs. Well, it looks like you're going to make up for not knowing any Beatles tunes on that one night. When the band hits L.A. I'll be there. But I sure as hell hope you bring Cuicoland back to L.A. as well. When I saw you with Ringo at Universal Amphiteater, you brought the house down with White Room. People were standing and screaming their fool heads off (me too). But for my money, I'd rather see you go through Dark Heart one more time. Much love to you and yours. You've given me so much since I first saw you on TV back in 68.

To Pete Lee, I have to cancel my trip to NY owing to a personal injury plus Jacks Re scheduling. You have the audacity to whine about Jacks Re -sheduled tour in October (which you can easily attend)when Ozzies that you have critisied for Jacks cancelation of touring oz "may be you should rellocate NYC" At least you will have the honour of seeing Jack in a completly new format ,never seen before. It's obviously a passion for Jack and I wish him and the tour a great time .I hope with that the future schedule of this trip will include Australia. Regards Dennis PS Happy Birthday to Margrit.XXXX PPS Pete you might be a great drummer, but I question your interpersonal skills in particular international diplomacy.I have a degree in that if need some asistance./ Regards Dennis

Denis, Sorry for your personal injury, but you've mixed my thoughts up with those of similar mindeds appearing on this Board. Putting deficient interpersonal skills momentarily aside (yours, too) - badgering is not acceptable - especially of one who has given so much and would have already toured your country/continent if at all economically feasible. In any event, how about a deal?: I'll be more diplomatic, if you'll stop ignorong reality. Re. musical skills - I'm self-taught, so there's little I can convey except by example. Jack, Just finished reading a great biogtraphy on Cream and remembered all the good times lying in bed listening to 'Live Cream' and 'Wheels of Fire'. Sadly I've been out of touch with your career for some years but am keen to get hold of some of your ealier solo albums and the BBM album. Bought tickets to the Rock & Roll Symphony only to be shattered by your non appearance. Nonetheless Cream remain for me along with the Who in their prime as 'the' greatest live acts of all time. Look forward to delving into your Music ASAP.

Hi Pete, Okay Pete ,Deal done.Diplomacy from you will be greeted by many readers of the Guestbook and yes I'll get my head around reality. The last thing I would ever want to do is offend Mr Bruce.I understand it's the out of touch promoters in Oz that are the problem. Maybe the Walk Down Abbey Road tour will be more appealing to them as an audience drawcard. I'm self taught (bass)as well ,sorry I can't catch up with you in June. If you go to the new concert I'm sure we would appreciate a review from you in the Quicoland Express newsletter at friendsofjbruce@hotmail.com Cheers, Dennis

I Like It. The concept is absolutely stunning.
Mark Farner packed Shea stadium in The Big Apple to the rooftops on several occasions. And I understand Mr. Parsons worked an apprenticeship with the Beatles during the recording of Abbey Road, not to mention Jack's work with Ringo and George.
Its' a great venue and the launch in Honolulu sounds like a fantastic beginning.
Derek -- would it be possible to get a sound clip from Hawaii posted on the board ? (with Jack's permision)

Hallo Jack Bruce Fans,
vor kurzer Zeit sendete WDR das Konzert zum 50. Geburtstag von Jack Bruce in voller Laenge. Leider hat mein Videorecorder bei den letzten zwei Songs versagt (Sunshine of yopur Love, Blues you can't loose).

hi Jack Bruce Fans,
some days ago, German television WDR 3 transmitted the 50th birthday concert of Jack Bruce (nearly 3 hours), recorded in Cologne in 1993. Unfortunately my videorecorder failed for the last two songs (sunshine of your love, blues you can't lose). Is there anybody in this little world, who got those 2 songs and is willing to send it to me (snake mail or email). I will be grateful. I'm interested in the audio version for completing my cd-set.
thanks a lot and keep on rockin'

Jack, hi. lets put the cards on the table! Hendrix is dead, Lennon is dead,so you are the defector worlds greatest musician...period!! From listening to the live version of "Tales of brave ulysses" as a teen,(1 billion times), to just recently seeing you at the house of blues in l.A. dec.2001, you have consistently proved your worthy of the title! .As a drummer for over 35 yrs.,Ringo made me get a drum set, Ginger pointed to what could be played and beyond!. lets face it, the Beatles showed what a "band unit" could do (songwriting, lyrics, vocals, ect.) the Cream showed what superior musicianship/instrumentation could do. THE BEATLES,HENDRIX ,AND THE CREAM WERE THE THREE GREATEST THINGS ROCK WAS EVER GIVEN!!! ...JACK, I know you have been asked "why no Cream reunion" ,well here is a suggestion worth reviewing: you once said cream was essentially TWO bands, a studio band AND the live band, well why not get the band together again, but this time with a k/b player with strings, ect,(mellotron on deserted cities, ect) and maybe a second guitar player, Pat thrall or Joe Walsh might be interesting. This would enable the "studio band" to present accurately the songs as the LIVE band, . There would be more variety, and less relying on the extended solo"s. I saw the stones a few years back, they had two k/b players, a horn section, three background singers, ect .(NO I'M NOT SUGGESTING ALL THAT,LOL) ,BUT : after the stones took a break, they came back and played stripped down five piece, great idea!. Cream could come back as the studio band live, and then when it comes down to the three piece stuff: (crossroads, sunshine, toad, spoonful,AND of course "tales of brave ulysses", nail them AGAIN with the three piece heroics which were beyond revolutionary! If clapton declines (and decides to stay in his little box, and just wants to regurgitate the same old blues) ,then I think a project with you and joes zuminal,k/b of weather report ( a masterful band also) OR the great BRIAN AUGER ON K/B and,AND my favorite drummer the GREAT Narada Michael Waldron, and perhaps Robert frip on guitar, would be an OUTSTANDING COLLABORATION! Tony Levin on the stick would also be kool in the mix, as you would be free to also play k/b ,ect ..Anyway Jack, I love you as a musician, and thank you for making my life happier! god bless, and NEVER stop! p.s. i think the ultimate three piece power trio live would have been jimi Hendrix, guitar & vocals, Jack Bruce, bass &vocals, and Narada Michael Waldron drums,"on a good day"lol. Jack, All the best with the Beatles tour. I am considering myself very lucky that I didn't book to see your band in NY, it would have been a very expensive mistake. The Beatles tour would be something that would go down very well in Australia so how about it, it's not much further on from Hawaii in the scheme of things? We'd love seeing Jack playing Jack but would definately settle for Jack playing Paul. I saw Peter Green with a five piece band a few nights ago. He went down very well despite having a pretty average band that drowned out his voice and guitar, and was great to see. How about some feedback on the web Jack - all this admiration, feedback and tour confision deserves something in return. All the best for the forthcoming tours, wherever they may be (hopefully wider than the well worn large US and European city circuit this time!!).

If you saw the (Mrs)Queen gig the other night, an old guy who looked like an aging Ben Elton or even Clive Dunn from Grandad, played some familiar cabaret stuff - I felt very sad. Forget about these Cream re-union gigs and push for Jack's solo work. It's the only thing that's original and going forward at the moment.

Cream songs are the best for full out loud improvs of the sort not seen/heard since...
Whether the author or others take up that mantle, makes no difference as long as they have the talent, motivation, imagination and spirit to ride.
Sort of like classical - no one refers to it as "cover".

Derek,
I just wanted to let you know that I have set up my own website. It is primarily intended to provide an avenue for my own music and get more work in Sydney. However, I have included an "Influences" page and the first entry is dedicated to Jack. I have taken the liberty of borrowing some images from your site as my scanner is not presently working and I wanted to get the site up.
Margrit has kindly given me permission to utilise some MP3 samples.
My site is at http://www.selftort.xs4.info. Access to the page on Jack is via the "Influences" link at the top of the page.
This email is not intended as "self promotion" but merely to let you know. Therefore should you decide not to publish this in the Guestbook no offence will be taken.
Whilst on the subject of the Guestbook I note that my rave on hearing that Jack would not be coming to Australia has been at the top of the page for some time. The issues raised in that entry were subsequently addressed by Margrit and it might be time for it to be deleted.
Keep up the good work
Regards
Brian Ralston
PS. If you want me to remove the pictures please just let me know.

"A Walk Down Abbey Road" 6/25/02 Sacramento Last night Jack headlined AWDAR with some musicians from the past. Jack showed once again that he is an atom ready to split! The crowd loved him, I was thrilled and amazed that after not seeing Jack in 25 years--he looks great, super cool, retains that amazing voice, and yet has kept up with the times. Jack brought the house down with Sunshine, Eleanor Rigby and White Room. I was lucky enough to obtain a wonderful autograph from Jack, who was concerned that Security would harass me. He is truly a gentleman. I was not surprised that Jack with his superior talent was holding the crowd attention even though Todd Rundgren was wailing some really awful vocals. No offense to the Todd fans, but JACK totally outranked all on stage. It was just as bazaar to see Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad) prance around -- I totally flashed back to the 70's. Alan Parsons and Christopher Cross still maintain lovely singing voices that gave well to the Beatles tribute. Jack's version of Eleanor Rigby was a beautiful song to showcase Jack's amazing vocals. I will never be able to hear that song again without thinking of Jacks voice. God Bless you Jack, you stay with the times, still command the stage -- yet retain a humble coolness about you! YOU ARE THE MAN!!!! Thanks for a wonderful night of music!

No, you can't play with Blues Saracino (After the show people kept coming up to me telling me I should have been up there with you). Gary Moore is fine, bu not your style. Can you picture him playing a Peter Sinfield piece? Definitely not your own "Deserted Cities of the Heart". What more shall I say. Does anyone know how to get in touch with Ginger Baker? we would like to offer him a gig.... Thanks, and I would love to jam Spoonful with you some time. Jack is incredible on the Abbey Road Tour. I've seen 2 of the shows so far; I only wish I could see more. There are full reviews and pictures of the shows on Mark Farner's website <www.markfarner.com>

Jack, I wanted to drop you a line to say I appreciated seeing you play with the Abby Road show in San Diego. We all enjoyed your tunes as well as the others. I saw how well you and Mark Farner, formerly of Grand Funk Railroad, were playing together and getting along. You and he need to form some sort of band and tour together. Both exceptional musicians and exceptional vocalists. Best of luck to you. John Easler, San Diego

In the mournful week of John Entwistle passing away, it's good to learn that my other great bass favorite, Jack Bruce, is still alive and jazzing. Keep on!
