Im 47 and have been a bassist\vocalist and song writer since 1972. Jack was a major influence in my jazz\Rock playing style. Ive just returned from Hawaii after playing on the Norwegian Star and also recorded with Joe Kingston on my upright crossover electric hybrid Bass Guitar. The CD was nominated #1 Jazz CD of the year in Hawaii 2001. Im just starting my own project and was wondering if Jack could play bass on one of the cuts HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART (MY SWEETHEART IS MY BASS GUITAR) I would like to send Jack a demo of my recordings, since his name is noted in my song, and he happens to be my mentor. How would I go about sending a promo pack to him? Jack Bruce fan and protégé, Aloha, Vic vicpore@hotmail.com

When Mark Farner finished his number the Mark fans stood up. When Jack finished his number----- EVERYBODY stood up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello, Jack Bruce fans! I run Eric Carmen's web site at www.ericcarmen.com -- and if you haven't heard, Eric will no longer be joining this tour. I am still going to the Atlantic City gig, but have two pairs of tickets for additional shows that I will not be attending. Though my connections I have AMAZING seats, and rather than return them to TicketMaster for a refund I thought it might be cool to offer 'em to big Jack Bruce fans. I'm selling them at cost to the first person who e-mails me at raspbernie@ericcarmen.com! Here's what I have: Keswick Theatre (PA) July 24, 2002 -- Row AA, center (First row!) and Wolf Trap (PA) July 27, 2002 -- Row C, slightly left of center (Third row!) -- Act fast...and enjoy the show! --Bernie

Nice website for one of my favourite musicians when I was younger.
Is it still possible to get hold of the "out of the storm" album, one of my all time favourite classics but tragically destroyed in a fire along with a lot of other "difficult to get hold of" music. I would be eternally grateful for any help.

Jack, the Mt. Winery show was incredible. It was a grand evening of music for myself, two chums from the 60's and the entire crowd. Your vocals on Eleanor Rigby and Golden Slumbers were stirring emotional statements, especially so with the knowledge that John Entwistle had passed earlier in the day. Your energy and bass playing on White Room affected everyone in attendance. After all these years you have never disappointed. Keep on rockin!

Saw the Walk Down Abbey Road thing at Taste Of Chicago. Jack was in fine form. His take on Golden Slumbers was terrific. The two folks on drums and Guitar (Geoffrey Townsend) were wonderful throughout and did nice work on Jack's own songs that were included. More would have been better of course. . . It's always good to see Allan Parsons in Chicago, Bulls fans know why.
What's the story with Mark Farner. . . .I liked Jack's bass solo on the Grand Funk Railroad thing. . .I'm Your Captain.
Missed Todd Rundgren on the bill, as originally promoted.
If you get a chance see this tour.
Jack, if you read this, come back to Chicago with Vernon, Gary, Leslie, Clem, Eric. . . .anybody but Mark Farner.

Mr. Bruce, I'm a abysmally bad amateur woman bass guitar student and occasional garage band sessionist armed with short fingers, high hopes, an especially silly guitar(a sixteen-plus pound electric coffeetable of a Hamer Explorer) and two stellar bass guitar heroes--you and John Entwistle. Mr. Entwistle's death poleaxed me. But on June 27, in Concord, California, you, Todd Rundgren, and the John Entwistle Band's Godfrey Townshend forced me to stop crying, haul my weepy cowgirl bassist butt off my seat, and DANCE--
I left that show grinning and dazzled and in love all over again with bass guitar again, thanks to you, Jack--God bless you: and long live you.

Hi!I have visited this site a few times and especially last summer. I´m almost sure I read about a collaboration beween Jack Bruce, Andy Summers and Dennis Chambers!? and it was said that they would tour the whole world this year! But I can´t find any traces of that information here at the site! So please Jack or someone else tell me what happened to this!! I was really exited when I read about it! It really sounded like a fruitful collaboration!!

It's good to know you're still going strong.
Yes I'm a die-hard from the late-60's, which I still enjoy and reminisce...'those were the days, yes they were...'
'White Room' still gets a regular airing on the local rock radio sttaion
I continued to buy your LP's in early 70's. I've still got 'Songs for a Tailor', 'Harmony Row' and 'Out of the Storm' in my collection.
But I had to get rid of 'W.B.L' in '73. Never mind.
Lost track until the early 90's until I heard you did 'Something Els', damnit I can't a copy of it.
Good Luck.

Hi. I've loved Jack's work over the years. In the "beginning" (for me, at least), it was Cream. This band was the epitome of music. They did for me what the Stones couldn't - dress up the blues in modern (read: psychedelic) clothing and make it listenable to someone who was raised on the Beatles, etc. For me, they were the first band to raise the bar the Beatles had set, and they set the stage for a lot of what happened in the 1970's...
At the tender age of 12, I had just begun buying albums, having been only previously able to afford singles. So it was a major effort for me scrimp and save for my first double album - Wheels of Fire! It was also one of the first 6 items I upgraded to CD when I finally bought a CD player in 1986, and it remains for me a crowning achievement of the 60's and indeed for my entire generation, one of my favorite albums of all time by anyone.
For years after 1970, I never listened to any of Jack's solo work, although I was aware of him popping up now and again, like on Zappa's 'Apostrophe', BLT, etc. I used to attribute this to my taste which I used to say had changed (beginnning in the early '70's, I began to follow progressive rock and some jazz or fusion.)
But now that I look back, I think it was because I never forgave Jack, Eric & Ginger for breaking up Cream. No mortal had the right to stop this music from God coming into the world!
But now I'm older and wiser, and I forgive you, Jack. And I'm having a ball exploring your entire catalog since 1970. Truly, I think you are my favorite bass player (& vocalist, too!), even though our world has been graced with the likes of Tony Levin, Jaco Pastorius, Chris Squire, John Wetton, Jack Casady, John Entwistle (RIP), etc.
So, thanks for all the great music over the years, and may your creative energy never abate. I don't know if you will read this Jack, but if you do, nothing would please me more than to see you play sometime near my home. In fact, keep in mind the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, a.k.a. SPAC, an outdoor amphitheater in my home town in New York state just north of Albany.
And if you ever play there, you have a standing invitation to come to my house for dinner, or just tea, or whatever you prefer. After all, my wife's maiden name is 'Bruce', so we must be cousins or something. Now how can you refuse that hospitality?
Thanks for all the great music, Jack! And thanks to Derek A. for putting together this website.
Cheers, David Vella dvella@skidmore.edu

What happened the other night in Jersey when you started to yell at Todd Rundgren while on-stage during "Walk Down Abbey Road"? Jack sreamed at Todd, waived his hand in front of Todd's face, stormed off stage, then would not take a bow w/the other members of the Group at the end of the show....what happened?

Dear Jack Bruce [& JB Lovers], Not so long ago I read some comments about friends complaining obout the fact that both Harmony Row and Out Of The Storm were never released on CD. That's not quite true:in fact, I have them both on CD... But the music industry, always complaining about losses and 'theft'of profits by Kazaa and the likes but in fact fucking the real artist, has - out of the same 'profit' reasons - discarded of the decency to keep the portefeuille of treasures like the above mentioned albums up to date. So screw them. I am very sorry for you Jack (caus'I know you yourself have been screwed by the same recordscum over and over again), but I have decided to make these treasures (most of the people have paid the rights when purchasing the vinyl copies anyway) available by putting them on the peer to peer network Kazaa. (you can download the software from www.kazaa.com). Love you Jack and thanks for being who you are... Henk Buss

Hey Jack, Great web site and photos. I grew up on Cream and that stuff and ran into Graham Bond records too, great recordings really! I got to meet Ginger in Dayton around late 1990 at Hauer's Music Center. He did a drum demostration there - great playing. Also saw him in Boston earlier at a club. Saw Eric with one of Pink Floyd members - Roger Waters. Hope to see you perform sometime. I played drums pro for several years in Boston area, Chuck Berry, Jonnie Copeland, Ronnie Earl and other Blues artists. Again thanks for the great web site and many blessings to you.

Hello,
It is probably a long shot to think that Mr. Bruce has the time to read these postings. Nevertheless, perhaps someone can get this to him, whenever he has time. I will therefore address my remarks to Mr. Bruce.
First, thank you for having this site and making it possible for people to post. I will be forty-nine years old next month and continue to enjoy to the fullest your work with Cream. 'Live Cream' is, no doubt, one of the greatest live rock albumns. I have been into music since I was a little boy. I went out and purchased The Beach Boys first record (45rpm) when it was released in 1962 or 1963 - 'Surfin'.
Thank you, Mr. Bruce, for helping me through some very difficult times when I was a teenager. May the Lord's blessings rest upon you always.
Can you please help me solve a thirty-five year-old mystery? We used to speculate as teenagers, but none of us really knew the answer. What does 'N.S.U.' stand for? Anything you could do to shed some light on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Take care,
Greg

Dear Greg, N.S.U. has always been a mystery to me too, that is, until I heard the same question beem asked to Mr. Bruce himself in a TV-Interview. Maybe you thought (as I did anyway) that NSU referred to a nice German Car (driving in my car... etc). But nothing could be farther from the truth. Please sit down comfortably before you read any further... If my memory is OK, Jack responded that the song was about Non Specific Utritis (!). I am no doctor, but it stands for a nasty Venereal Disease, which does not discriminate between guys and dolls (that's why it's Non-specific...). I agree with you that Live Cream (which I bought when I was 17 years (I am 49 now) is one of the best albums ever although Goodbye is for me the Mother of all Music albums, anyway. Greetings and all the best,
Henk Buss

Hi, Jack - Greetings from Bermuda. Lenny, Herb and I (CANYON) are busy playing Cream and Hendrix toons in NYC G. Village clubs this summer. We may be the only ones doing justice to the open-ended improv format that you, Eric, Ging, James Marshall, Mitch and Noel so famously essayed. Little clubs like Downtime, Lion's Den, Baggot Inn and Acme Underground similar to the old Cafe A Go Go on Bleeker - definitely too loud for the confines, but blowing away the idle bar flys as we find them. Couldn't have done it without you(s).
Maybe we'll meet up again with you and Derek when/if you play BB Kings/NYC.
In any event - cheers from somewhere out in the Atlantic.

Okay, TheKee, it might have appeared to be sexist, but I was very tongue in cheek when I made the comment about men. Actually, I like men very much. One of the better OTHER SPECIES on the planet. Some of JB's music very much expresses that men are human, too, and have very deep feelings. His voice can convey the depth of a man's feeling--pain, love, pathos, joy, concern, whatever. Really all human feeling (not gender specific). And,yes, I did very much enjoy the performance at wolf Trap. So did my husband.

I am a longtime fan of Jack's, having seen him perform a dozen times over the years, starting with WB&L in April 1972. I saw the last show of the "Abbey Road" tour in Atlantic city at the Grand Theater in the Hilton Hotel. I got to meet Jack in person after the show. He was kind enough to come out and meet the four of us waiting for him. I told him that I thought he was one of the finest bass players in the world and with a witty smile he replied "you mean "The" finest bass player in the world".We all got a big laugh out of that. I asked if he had any musicians lined up for the new Cd and he replied "Carlos Santana". After about five minutes of convesation and signing autographs we all wished him a safe trip home and all got to shake his hand.Thank you again, Jack, for taking the time to meet us. It meant the world to me and my wife. We also got to meet Chris Cross who was very friendly. We also got to speak to Godfrey Townsend, who said Jack had asked himn to join his band and will be performing with Jack in October at BB Kings Blues club in NYC.We even met Todd Rundgren's mom, and spoke with some of Todd's aquaintences who were accompanying her. Todd's mom even asked my wife to take their picture in front of a lit up poster of the concert advertisemet. Needless to say it was a night to remember. The concert was fantastic and Jack's vocals on Eleanor Rigby and Golden Slumbers were so well done, I was in awe! Thanks for all the years of musical excellence. I have all your Cd's and I look forward to your new one next spring!

Just read previous entry by John. Now that's exciting news( if it's true). Carlos Santana on Jack's new CD. This is a fusion of two greats that should have happened a long time ago. Carlos and Jack, coming from the same era, had parallel careers with many of the same artists,(McLaughlin,Clapton,Tony Williams, Cobham)to name a few. I've always thought Carlos'playing was somewhat of a latin version of Clapton, with more jazz leanings. And with Jack's new music, this would be an intense matchup of two "Titans", tailor made for Carlos. I think this would make some great musical waves. I also hope someday there will be a release of the Hot Flash recordings. Dennis Chambers on drums-Whoa! I'll bet Jack has to do some incredible bass fills with THOSE drums. And with Andy Summers songwriting combination and style. Gotta hear that one day......

For people asking about Jack's earlier albums on CD ... well "Songs For A Tailor" was given a decent re-release a few years back on Polygram. Also I read the other day in "Record Collector" magazine that (I think) Sanctuary records are planning to release many of Jack's difficult-to-find albums (presumably) such as "Harmony Row", "Things We Like" and "Out Of The Storm" later this year!!!
This is great news. Lets all watch and wait for further developments on this.
It will plug the gap while we wait for Jack's next new album.
Cheers ...

Jack is my Idol as Bassist and Vocalist.I have all his solo albums, and have seen him many times. Somehow I felt he could no longer surprise me, how wrong I was. At the Greek Theatre in L.A. he sang Elanor Rigby like a "GOD" I had goose bumps and the same look of disbelief when i had seen Cream. Later I got to talk to Jack for forty five minutes . He told me many personal things and even sang a Celtic song accapella. It was Magic. Lucien

Hello, I don't anything radical to say, but I have always been a fan of blues and rock, and when I began acquiring my collection of Cream albums I was immediately attracted to the vocals and playing of the bassist. I thought, who is this guy. I will confess my ignorance, until I spoke with my mother about the band and bgan listening to more of their work, I had always thought that Eric Clapton was the front man because he's the one who's always gotten the most recognition. So when I discovered that not only was their music mouch more of a collaborative effort, but that Jack Bruce instead was the front man, I wanted to learn more about him. He has one of the best voices for blues/rock I've heard, and I'm always drawn to artists who play a variety of instruments in a variety of styles. I'm afraid that if I had come from my mother's generation that I would've been a groupie. His being Scottish doesn't hurt either. Basically I'm saying that the man is hugely talented and I am an admirer. The End.

The fact is that I really wish Jack wasn't doing another tribute tour thing - especially if it's a spirit of Cream deal. How many times do you all want to hear yet another version of Politician? I'm in possession of 8 versions at last count and hey that's enough. Shadows has better songs and better singing than anything he did with Cream. It's a shame that album and that band won't get the time and attention they deserve to really develop into a true musical force. I saw Vernon Reid last weekend with Living Color in San Diego and WOW they were great. Almost as good as Cuicoland. The most pathetic thing is that if this godforsaken Spirit of Cream tour makes its way across the ocean, I will see Jack in it anyway. Because it's impossible not to see him. And not to love him and what he does - even when it's cheesball stuff like this. And by the way, for my money - the Clempson, Cobham, Sancious line-up was a better group than Cream. And I bet Lifetime was, too. I couldn't tell you from first hand experience as that band cancelled a gig in NY that I had tickets to. Love and Peace and open minds to all.

Dubious, though that either Ginger happily somewhere in South Africa with his ponies or Eric happily somewhere else with his $'s & new family want to go out and recreate it.

...however, his best work lies in front of him, provided he works with people that can intimidate him into ensemble greatness.

I am gathering stories for "Tales From the Rock and Roll Highway," a book to be published by Billboard Books.
I am looking for stories regarding touring, performances, fan encounters etc.; anything interesting, funny, poignant, crazy, whatever.
If you would like to share a story about Jack, e-mail inkstainedwench@bellsouth.net

Could still be a problem.I don't see a lot of people out there to inspire Jack.Usually the other way around.Still,I hope you are right Pete.

Clarification - Far be it for me, much less anyone, to point out a more inspired body of work than our personal saviour's.
Even the BBM stuff (City of Gold, Why Does Love Have to go Wrong, Where In the World - yum).

This past Saturday night I had a chance to see a band called Black Moon.I picked a bad night,as the singer did not show up due to a family crisis. The guitar player and bass player where pressed into service. The bass player chose Politician. He was no match for Jack vocally, but the bass playing was right up there with "The Man". I talked with him after the gig,and of course he was a big fan.He may not have been a note for note guy,but the fire and passion where right there. He turned me onto this web site.I think his name is Dan. later the guitar player(Sam,I think)did Crossroads. The interplay between them had the drummer on his toes. They where all up to the challenge.

Hello - Last weekend I played some Cream songs that I hadn't heard for probably 25 years. I realized what a fantastic group they were, and what a huge talent Jack Bruce is. I am so glad to see that he is still really involved with his music, and still out there entertaining people. My big dream is that some day he will get together with Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton and do a tour.
