I as most of my peers, have been greatly affected by the music of Jack Bruce. I emulated him for many years. The obvious Gibson G-3 Bass & Marshall amp. Singing with my head tilted to one side. Pulling the strings so hard the bass would distort acoustically. But I what has stuck with me, has been the feeling inside when hearing JB's music. It has always been a clear and distinct road unto itself. Many styles of influence, and subjects of verse. Always distinct, refreshing, and original. Never trite. That's what I like about Jack Bruce, he has always been an original.

Dear Friends, I want to confirm that EMI is about to release CD with Scaffold and Jack Bruce is mentioned as one of the guest session player. Please, let me know if you have idea how deeply he was involved in the project. I am still waiting for any confirmation of Jack Bruce appearance on Graham Bond 4 CD box. Any news? It is no advertising but I recommend everybody to check out www.audiophile.com to buy hard to find CDs with JB. I bought a lot of great stuff from them. I do recommend also Ginger Baker`s Airforce CD "Do what you like" recently reissued by Polydor in USA. Graham Bond is there as well. I will have a video copy of some JB sessions recorded from German TV - BBM, with Graham Bond in 70s, 1980 group etc. I will let know Derek as soon as I have it. He is #1 here. Also JB funs should get 3 CDs of Duffy Power with exceptionally good playing of JB. All 3 CDs were issued in GB - check out www.cdworld.com or www.blackmail.com.uk. I want to recomend you also Pop inside the 60s - compilation by See for miles with Graham Bond Organization and EMI compilation RnB at Abbey road with rare Graham Bond songs including I saw her standing there with Duffy Power. Great thing. All the best Gregg

Jack is one of the greatest bass players & vocalists in the world of music. Listen to the" Live on the Old Grey Whistle Test". Simply remarkable! Hopefully all of Jack's work will be released soon. P.S. I recently saw John Entwistle in a small club outside Philadelphia. Wow! Maybe we will see Jack do the same. Goodbye for now.

I'd just like to tell Mr. Bruce that there are a small but dedicated bunch of people in the hills of Southern India who deeply appreciate and love his music, right from the early days and Cream to BBM which was the last album that we could obtain. Of course, living in India, it is quite difficult to get hold of his music, but we try as hard as possible.

It's somewhat difficult to write as a "comment" in a guest book what the emotional impact of Mr. Bruce's music has been on us, but let me just say that it has been considerable.

I'd like to end with our very best wishes to Mr.Bruce.

Sincerely,

Hari Selvarajan, Vikram Kapur, Rupak Roy, and the many children of the Geddai School who are hooked on Cream and BBM as their primary listening material, and as the best Dance music in the world.

Most people think of Eric Clapton when they think of Cream, but I think of Jack Bruce. (Probably because I'm a drummer and I *really* appreciate a good bassist!) I followed him into his solo work after that. He's got more and better chops than just about anyone else in rock. I only saw him once, with West, Bruce and Lang, but that was an excellent show. I still get goosebumps listening to "Politician" and "The Consul at Sunset." I didn't know he played on the Carla Bley album; I've been looking for that one for a long time because I love her work. Now I have an additional reason to find it. My current band is going to do "Politician;" I'll be singing it. I learend a lot about singing by listening to Jack's work, and I would also have to say that he was a big influence on my songwriting, as well. I'd say that Jack's work, along with that of Procol Harum and the Beatles, are the most meaningful things about 60's music for me.

Hey Jack, just to let you know you are the seminal influence in my bass-playing life. I'm not much of a large venue concert-goer, but I did see (and hear) you and Friends at The NYC Academy of Music, December 1980, with David Sancious and all- a few days after John Lennon was shot. That concert remains one of the very best I have ever experienced. Thank-you for all your influence and music - past, present and future. Regards, JP

Have you ever seen a portrait of Jack Bruce (picture from "The Jack Bruce Collection") tattooed onto one of Jacks biggest fans? I've got one and it looks exactly like the photo! E-mail me for further info. All of JBs music has inspired me since 1970. His powerhouse bass playing, tantilizing keyboards, wailing harp blowin' (I scoffed up one of JBs harps at a JB Band concert in Boston, MA - w/ Blues Saraceno & Gary Husband after a mind boggling version of Traintime) and just incredible vocals is the only cure I need. "Cities of the Heart" is the best compalation of "live" tunes EVER laid down in any print PERIOD! Thank you Jack, for everything! :-)

I just happened to find this website looking for a friend of mine who is looking for recordings of the Graham Bond Organisation (he's a big Jack and Ginger fan). Lo and behold I came to your news page and the first thing I see is your news of a possible release of a lot of GBO material. My friend Bill will be on 'cloud nine' if it's true. He's looked for a long time. He even had me look in London when I used to travel there on business. Most if not all of the recordings are out of print. We will wait with great anticipation and in the meantime keep n listening to all of your great music which we have most of. I get a Jack Bruce history lesson whenever I stop by his place. Thanks for helping to make the last four decades the Golden Age of Music for us. Please come and play in the New York area soon.

Hey, what about working together to put on a JB or Cream festival, a forum for collectors and afficionados. I have this great Cream poster I got in '69. Have never seen it anywhere else.

Dear Jack: I have greatly enjoyed your music for over 33 years, since '65 Mayall. I've written a little instrumental called "Jack Bruce Plays Peter Gunn" a history/tribute ala Alvin Lee "I Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes", but instead containing octave riffs for Hendrix "It is Not Dying", "As You Said", the "Sweet Wine" Refrain & and "Goodbye Cruel World" (remenber James Darren, 1963?). Thanks for all the great music and memories from the sixties. Peace and Cream. Brian

Is there any way to contact Jack or any other individual associated with either Jack or Cream in order to request specific photos of Cream during their concerts at LA Forum October 19&20 1968 and the Oakland Alameda Coliseum on October 4th 1968? I am researching equipment details and need photos of those events. Also, I would love to gain access to Jacks recollections of various recording sessions, especially during the Disralie Gears and Wheels sessions. (also his comments on the 68 Farewell Tour)

Thank you.

Hey Jack, Does "N.S.U." refer to the German rotary engined automobile from the mid-60's? If so, its a very appropriate title, as the song, like the Wankle engines in the cars, revs to unlimited speed until it explodes.

Great site and pleasing to know that I am not the only JB fan in Australia. SWLARB was the song that got me back into rock music. Loved the vocals. Became a huge Cream fan. Followed Jack's career in Melody Maker when it was readable and available out here. I am only missing a couple of albums. Do any Australian fans know how to get hold of the Old Grey Whistle Test and Live at the BBC albums in Australia. One of the saddest days in my life was walking through Cologne in 1981 and seeing signs on walls advertising Jack playing the night before, and having no means of knowing any other tour details. Would like to hear from any other JB fans, particularly in Australia. Who knows maybe we can band together and urge Jack to come to this fantastic country. "The Basement" in Sydney would be a wonderful venue. I would also like some information on obtaining sheet music for Jack's music after "Harmony Row". I have the music for Songs for a Tailor and Harmony Row and would love to update. Would also be interested in finding out if any midi-files exist of Jack's music. Keep up the good work. I will return from time to time to check if Jack is coming to Australia.

Hello Innocents, N.S.U. is a form of V.D. Speciphically , Non Speciphic Uthritis . In other words , the song is about nothing in particular . Except " Smokin ' cigars , drivin' cars and sailin yauchts ", none of which Jack had when he wrote the song . It has nothing to do with German cars. Although N.S.U . gained the world land speed record for motorcycles in the early ' 50s . Paul Fuller .

Jack Bruce,

A few words of praise from a 30+ year fan of both Cream's and your work. First of all, a loud plea that you consider playing some venue in Conecticutt, USA in the near future as my life will be far from complete unless I see you live before passing on. I have been fortunate enough along the way to catch the lesser 2/3 of the band ( don't let Ginger see this because I love his drumming and cantankerousness but never thought of him as any kind of leader in the band even though he claims responsibility for its inception ) but have never capitolized on an opportunity to see you live. Truly, with your booming baritone and incredible writing and playing ability, you were always the heart of the band for me and I have continued to follow your solo career with great interest and admiration. Mister Clapton has emerged a horrible example of compromising one's artistic vision and selling onesself down the river for popularity, dough, whatever... but you seem always to have remained true to your music and art, even if it, as I'm sure it must have, hurt you financially at times. Cream was, and always will remain, for me , the ONLY BAND worth any artistic salt whatsoever, with the exception of Mister Fripp and King Crimson. The world of popular music has always slept in its misery and naiivity while artists like yourselves continue to say something worthwhile. If Eric will not 'come out to play', it is truly his own fear and insecurity that prevents that ( as well of course, plenty of discouragement from his bloodthirsty, greedy management ) from happening. I remain, as I'm sure I speak for countless other Bruce/Cream fans, a devoted fan and friend and sincerely hope all is well with you and your family. In closing ( and I do hope you get to read this ) I was 13 years old when you guys called it quits and never had the chance to see the band live. I have lived vicariously through countless official re- and rereleases as well as all, I believe, the existing bootlegs still out there in circulation, and know that I truly missed out on what would have been the concert experience of a lifetime. That aside, have you ever considered reassembling the crew from the "Things We Like"??? I bet Mr. Mcglaughlin would still consider 'coming out to play' as he, much like you, always seems to consider art before meaningless popularity. I bet you'd catch quite an unsuspecting jazz and rock audience by surprise and surprise even yourself with the result. You'd get to play again, like only you can, John would get to electrically shred a little more and resurrect some of those fantastic Mahavishnu sounds, and your fans would exult. There's more of a neo-fusion movement afoot than I think you realize ( just ask Messr's Tony Levin and Bill Bruford- there's an interesting thought for a drummer!!! )!! Anyway, some parting thoughts for this day. This aging rocker wishes you and yours well.

Hi!

Where to begin? I engineered on tour with Jack Bruce & Friends in Scotland and Europe circa 1984-87. Looking at the past tour dates, I can say that the November '84 stuff contained many more dates; Fulda, Stuttgart, Bremen (brilliant night), Flensburg, Gottingen, Linz and Wels (Austria) all come to mind. Also, there was a whole tour with the Bruce/Fier/Clempson/Leahy lineup sometime in 1986 or 1987 that began in Linz and ended in Budapest (one other Hungarian date in Szombathely [sp?] when it was still Eastern Bloc. The one before Hungary was at the Arena in Vienna; the Budapest date was second on the bill to U.F.O., with Dr. Feelgood opening. If I can remember any more I'll write again! Nice site, BTW.

cheers Andy

I saw Jack perform w/Cream @ the Phila. Spectrum in 1969, and from that point on I was determined to become a bassist. At the time I was 16 yrs. old, playing keyboards w/left handed bass lines.I suggested I start playing bass due to the fact that I already knew how to play guitar. I was outvoted and left the band to find another in need of a bassist. I've been playing 28+ yrs. thanx to Jack and his music!

I watched youe concert in Leuven, Belgium during my stint as a student in Namur, (100 miles away from Leuven) I came from afar and had to sleep at the train station but it was worth it. I never thought i would hear Sunshine of Your Love and White Room Live. I wished you played I Feel Free as well. Anyway, I wish to have access to your other materials which is not widely available in the Philippines. I play bass myself and I always try to imitate your style. I play bass as a celebration of your music, but I'm not a powerful singer as you are. I'm deeply saddened by your son's death but I knew you kept good memories of him. I know you are a strong person. I hope Eric and Ginger do a reunion with you on a massive World Tour which I know will be artistically and commercially successful.

Good Luck,

Ferdinand Andre'

You are one of the baddest cats around. Lots of Jack Bruce fans up here at the North Pole. I didn't knew that you were a Warwick-man. I just loved the BBM-album and thougt you still played the EB-3. But, it's in the fingers isn't it? -Or more correctly - in your head and heart. Oui? I myself started to play bass as a very young man in, about the release of Fresh Cream. At the time my biggest influence was Jamie Jamerson and you. Thank you, mr. Bruce. btw. have you heard the version of "rope ladder..." by Julie Driscoll and Brian Auger?

Excellent webpage on one of rock's better players. I well remember when "Disraeli Gears" and "Wheels of Fire" were in all the album bins around Houston. "Deserted Cities of the Heart" remains my fave Cream cut of all time. Just finished reading "Crossroads", a book about Clapton; it was very good, without being a real juicy read. Good stuff, thanx.

Without doubt,Jack is my favourite musician of all time.Being a so called "old fart"by my younger friends and family only makes me feel stronger in regard to the fantastic musians of by-gone years! Without the Bruce's ,Zappa's,Ponty's,etc,we would be in a lotta shit relying on musicians of these past 2 decades.I would love Jack to open the Sydney Olympic Games in September 2000.Hope to see you soon mate!Best wishes for a great Christmas and a very happy and rocking new year.

Jack Bruce, in my humble opinion, plays the meanest, nastiest, slow blues I have ever heard. His vocal on Cream's "Wrapping Paper" is awesome. His phrasing and tone are beyond belief. Jack, keep rocking...

Jack Bruce is the baddest bass player of all time... Listen to "Sitting on top of the world" on Cream's Goodbye album... That is some serious slow blues...those bass lines are so nasty, very dirty tone...distortion! Jack was probably using Marshall stacks at full blast!!!! In the middle of the live version of "I'm so glad", Jack plays notes that are obviously not in the key of the song...That's my favority moment of all!!! Nobody gets away with that better than Jack!!! Jack Bruce, you got big balls! Clapton is very predictable...(sissy) Jack, what do you think of John Paul Jones...James Jamerson... Entwisle has pretty good chops too...Listen to "Goodbye Sister Disco" The one thing that I think sets Jack Bruce appart is his sense of reckless abandon and adventure. I think Jack is the only great bass player that also happens to be a world class singer!!! what can I say....Thanks for the great music...

Jack, you have always been one of my favorite bass players. I have not been able to see you in person, but I have been to concerts that featured some of your musical friends. I saw Eric Clapton a couple of times, I've seen John McGlaughlin when he was with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and I saw Mountain in concert, too. Way back when Cream was playing live, Playboy Magazine had this poll to ask people their favorite musicians. The name that came in second for many years was Jack Bruce. The reason for this was that many people looked down the list of nominees, and the only name on the whole list that they recognized was Paul McCartney. I've listened carefully to his bass playing, and he's not bad, but he wasn't the best. This is just to let you know that for anyone who knew anything about music back then, you were the best, Jack. Your music stands the test of time. I've also seen you and Ginger Baker on the David Letterman show. I enjoyed seeing you there, too. Could you post somewhere on your web site the meaning of N.S.U. please? I saw on the Fresh Live Cream video that SWLABR stands for She Was Like A Bearded Rainbow. It took me more than 25 years to find that out. I hope it doesn't take me another 25 years to find out what N.S.U. means. Your musical fan, Tony Steele
