Hi, does anyone know if the recording "Almost Cream" is still available? I saw a listing of it on the netherlands Jack Bruce fan site. It was recorded at the bottom line in NYC in 1989. I was at that show and would like to hear it again.

Glad this place exist! Jack Bruce music has always, since I've been 15 (I'm 40) rythms my life. Every moment of it is linked to a tune... It goes perfectly with Peter Brown's lyrics. Keep on doing good melodies Jack, and thank you for what you've written.

A CREAM reunion might be just a futile attempt at recreating an incredible musical event that ultimately cannot be recreated with the same intensity, creativeness or flair. Each member has gone their own way and musical direction. Bruce is into jazz, Clapton came into commercial appeal with the masses and Baker went way back into fundamentals of ancient drumming. The music was an intense influence for me personally because at that time I was just starting my own drumming career and Baker was untuchable to try to immitate, but was allways a goal. Leave Cream alone in tape and records and in its original version and it will allways be THE BEST ! ! ! jimmy

As an extremely troubled youth, my mooring was what you gave to me on vinyl so many years ago. Discovering your site (and quite by accident I might add) is for me like finding an old friend. I am glad to see you are still "pickin"! I'm 45 now and my direction in music which began in the Blues has come to Bluegrass and playing the Dobro. Jack, you taught me (along with Eric and Ginger) how to jam out a tune. That true music isn't on paper, nor is it on the fretboard...it's deep in the gut! Oh, how well you pull it out and express it! I'm sure Mozart, Stravinsky, and others of this echelon understood this well as their pinhead conservative critics were left only to scratch their tops in wonder. Jack, may God richly bless you! <kdw>

Dear Mr. Araujo: Once again, an excellent job. Thanks. My only quibble is that the bio didn't mention the '89-'90 tour in support of A Question of Time. In Dallas he did an excellent set of solo material going all the way back to Songs for a Tailor with Blues Saraceno, Bernie Worrell, Gary Cooper, and a drummer I unfortunately can't remember and then the second set started with NSU and recreated a full Cream show with Mr. Baker. For the encore, Baker said, "Here's one he wrote on the airplane from Houston today and it features on vocals--me:Bum-bum-bum-ba-bum-bum-I feel free. . ." Quite a night and probably the closest I'll ever get to the real thing, since it was $21 in a converted movie theater (curiously only 2/3 full!) and any tour with all three of them would be in football stadiums and tickets would be at cocaine dealer prices. (Traffic got $85. Nice guys, but not Cream and at least one member dead. And don't start me talking about those Eagles! Grr!) Once again, thanks. All my best,
Anaax

1) Congratulations on your "Approved" grand web-site. Certainly all your hard
work and insight paid off, Derek. You earned it.
2) Is there a place we, the humble masses could submit Photos of JB , to be shared...rare
ones or those that have not been distributed in great amounts (keep in mind we are not
webmasters...something we could just scan and e-mail to you?
3) Is it possible someday in the future to interact with Jack Bruce...the Black radio show
was a little confusing since we thought he would be a guest... I would be happy, just to
know that Jack would be connected to read, questions and comments and that depending on
his take on something...could reply or respond, He mentioned in one DIARY note, that he
did appreciate comments and read every one...although it was ambiguous where, and how this
was done.
4) I guess it took a Harvard guy to do such a great site...and your vision was 80% of
it...again congrats on your achievement, hard work and good taste.

The first time I heard Fresh Cream I was hooked. I am a drummer and thought Jack Bruce was the most creative bassist I had ever heard.Melodically ,rhymically, and also in his writing(listen to Harmony Row!!) I have everything he has released, and played on(I think). I have only seen him live once, in Los Angeles, with Ginger Baker. He is the best. Thanx Jack.

Mr. B I grew up in Santa Cruz Ca. , 70 miles south of San Francisco and was able to see you every time you played with Cream ( most times three or four nights in a row ) and my passion turned towards your early brand of fusion that I believe you are in no small way responsible for .As a young stand up player I was amazed by your style , tone and counterpart . You truly opened many doors for us . When you first started your Jack Bruce & Friends with Larry Corryell ,Mitch Mitchell and that great keybrd. player ( whose name escapes me ) I was also there leaning on the stage every night . I would love to find some recordings of that band . Do they exsist? The way the four of you stretched time ... Many years later I was able to open for you but unable to talk with you and ask you about that group .Anyway thanks for opening the doors . jerry

This is my first time back at the site for the new year. Thanks to all the Australian JB fans who responded to my last entry. I have now picked up the BBC sessions and the Old Grey Whistle Test CDs and love them. To Gereon Muckelmann, I have a book of sheet music of Jack's called "Jack Bruce at His Best". I haven't looked at it for a while but from memory it has most, if not all of "Songs for A Tailor" and "Harmony Row" plus "Hcck Blues". "Theme..." is included in the book. Pardon my ignorance but I'm not quite sure what you mean by a "lead sheet". If it is the sheet music you're after send me an e-mail and I will do my best to scan it and send it to you (you can pay Jack the royalties).
One final point - Billy Cobham is playing at the Basement in Sydney next week (15, 16 and 17 Feb I think). I intend to go on the Wednesday night. If there are any Sydney JB fans who are also going lets get into e-mail contact and arrange to meet and have a few drinks and yarns. Who knows, we might get up enough courage to ask Billy to contact Jack and tell him what a great place Sydney is, and what a terrific venue the Basement would be for Jack to perform at.
Keep up the good work Derek.

As a bass player, I have been following Jack Bruce since the late sixties, and is on of my main influences. The tour dates schedules do not list any dates the Tony Williams Lifetime played in the United States with Jack Bruce. I saw Jack play with the band I think in late April or May of 1970. They played two nights at the Palladium in Birmingham Michigan. It was quite an amazing performance, an intense musical experience, especially from Larry Young. Someone should know the remaining tour dates from that time. It's amazing to know the band worked as much as it did later that year. Amazing too how little recordings of this group are available! I'm hoping JB reads this while on tour with Ringo and convinces him to push the envelope. While I love Ringo's hits, his catalog contains some great songs that he never performs live. I'm gonna see JB and Ringo in San Diego on March 14 and 15 and in Los Angeles on March 18. Hey Jack, talk Ringo into doing a set containing the following songs: Have You Seen My Baby, Oh My My, and Devil Woman (from Ringo); Oo-wee, All By Myself, and Only You (from Goodnight Vienna); You Don't Know Me At All (from Rotogravure); Private Property, Attention, and Back Off Boogaloo (from Stop and Smell the Roses); Don't Go Where the Road Don't Go (Time Take Time); and Mindfield, King of Broken Hearts, and Puppet (from Vertical Man). Yeah, I know some of the main stream fans might not enjoy these numbers as much as Photograph or You're Sixteen, but how about us die hards? Don't we deserve something? As for you Jack, how about As You Said or He the Richmond for your solo number? I saw you do a solo acoustic version of As You Said at the Bottom Line in NYC in, I think, 1989 that sent chills up my spine. Come on, lets have some fun. Push the envelope.

I'd would like to know whether the whole SOYL recording from the Farewell Concert is anywhere available on video, record and cd? After hearing "I'm So Glad" live at a friend's house..., I was a hooked lover of the Jack Bruce Experience. To Hell with those wimpy, whiney, overpaid guitar/vocalists, let us hear the real man on stage!

Dear Jack & Ringo fans: I spoke to a friend who saw both Jack/Ringo shows at the Beacon Theater in New York City. He is the biggest Beatle fan I know, but he said Jack absolutely stole the show. Like me (see my email of 2/15/99) he was a little disappointed with Ringo's set selection. The set list for both shows was: Ringo: It Don't Come Easy and Act Naturally; Gary Brooker: The Devil Came From Kansas; Todd Rungren: I Saw the Light; Jack: Sunshine of Your Love; Simon Kirk: Shooting Star; Ringo: Boys, Love Me Do and Yellow Submarine; Jack: Theme From An Imaginary Western (with JB on piano backed by the band); Gary Brooker: Salty Dog; Jam before the break; Ringo: I'm the Greatest, No No Song and Back Off Boogaloo; Jack: I Feel Free; Simon Kirk: Alright Now; Ringo: I Wanna be Your Man; Todd Rungren: Bang the Drum; Jack: White Room; Gary Brooker: Whiter Shade of Pale; Ringo: Photograph, You're Sixteen and A Little Help from My Friends. Great show. Forgive me for complaining, but this great show would have been over the top if Ringo did Devil Woman, Oo Wee, Minefield, and King of Broken Hearts instead of Boys, Yellow Submarine, No No Song, and I Wanna be Your Man. How good would that have been? If anyone else has seen a show, why not share your thoughts and impressions? Hey Jack, I really can't wait to see ya. Thanks for the music.

If you see this Jack I just want you to know that I saw you in 1989 With Ginger, and it still is the greatest live show I've ever seen. I got to the show an hour before the start and foud my spot by looking under the curtain and seeing where you had your bass rig. FRONT ROW & Front Jack! It was an experience I'll never forget, especially when Ginger threw his plastic cup into the audience right before "Toad" and I caught it! Sure wish I could have caught your harp after "Sitting on Top of the World"
May God bless and keep you always Mr Bruce!

My wife and myself EXPERIENCED "The SHOW of all SHOWS" last night at Westbury Music Fair in Long Island, New York. You and the Boys are true musicians and entertainers. The wife and myself and just about everyone else loved it when you were playing the song Sunshine of your Love and You started walking over to us and playing bass sat right down in a seat one isle over and eight rows down from us. You had a BIG SMILE on your face. I'll never froget that. One more time did I see you and The ALL-STARR Band in 1997 Jones Beach, New York. That show was great especially with Peter Frampton. If I make a suggestion, If you evey start a band put Frampton as your lead man you get along beautifully(musicality). Forget Clapton. I FEEL FREE after last night. Peace Brother.

I just saw Jack Bruce and His band yesterday. I was wearing a home made Disraeli Gears shirt and I was screaming my head off. I even think Jack Bruce whispered thank you into the microphone while I was screaming, "I love you, Jack!" I got there 15 minutes late, but arrived right before Rundgren introduced Jack Bruce and they played "Sunshine". I rushed to the front right before the solo started on "White Room". I was a mere 15 feet away from the great God of all bassists. The other tune he sang lead on was "I Feel Free". Thank you so much Jack, I'll never forget that experience for as long as I live.

Jack was absolutely fantastic (nothing new) at Westbury last night (wednesday). I was in row 6 with my eyes glued on my idol. After the show I heard everyone talking about how great Jack is. It's too bad we didn't hear Theme...either show at Westbury. Why do some people think it's Mountains song or Pappalardi's song? I'll never understand. Jack, you will always be my favorite musician. You are the greatest! The greatest voice and the greatest bass belong to the same man: the great Jack Bruce!

Kudos! There is no question that Jack stole the show night at the Westbury music fair. Having never taken a bass lesson in my life (and have successfully been in the music biz for 25 years) Jack has been one of my main influences. I've been thrown out of more bands for having my EB-3 and playing with that upfront lead bass sound......But I take that as an extreme compliment. Jack has certainly been one of the most under-rated bassists and vocalists of our time....but thanks to this web-site, I can see that he has a loyal following. Coming up on 56 years of age...he certainly still sounds like the JACK BRUCE I saw on the last CREAM TOUR at Madison Square Garden many moons ago. Let's hope he gets his own band and tour together real soon!

I saw Bruce with the Golden Palominos at the Metro ('85?). He did Silver Bullet, as well as a great job on two favorites..Deserted Cities and Weird of Hermiston. During the set he paid tribute to the "Greatest song writer in the universe" ... then mentioned a name (not Pete Brown) that I had never heard of before. I believe it started with an M. Who is this songwriter? Anyone Jack thinks is the best, given the the calibre of the Bruce/Brown combo , I must know about. Anyone know?

Mr. Bruce, you are an inspiration. I am a 32 year-old bassist, song writer. I discovered Cream when I was 13. My first band with my friends in high school was named "Toad". We played Cream covers and blew a hole in the sky at the faculty picnic. It was a blast. "Songs for a Tailor" is still one of my all-time favorites. I saw you and your band(with Ginger Baker) in Atlanta in 1990. What a show. I brought an album cover hoping to get a signiture, but I never got close enough. I know you're busy. Enjoy the rest of your "Ringo Tour". I know you're probably sick of hearing this, but a Cream reunion would be great. Thanks for the music. Sincerly, Scott

Dear Friends, This one is for Derek . He says he did not understand the need for bass players until he heard Jack . O.K. Without bassplayers there would be no Rhythm and Blues , and prescious little Jazz . Bass players and drummers are the life blood of music , particulaly , Black music , and I don't mean rap . That is not music . While Mr . Bruce's music is not Black , he has been very influenced by Black musicians . Willie Dixon , ( A Bass Player ) amongst them. Jack is arguably the best Bass player on the planet , but good funky playing is still the best way to get people to dance and feel some emotion . The Rolling Stones are a very good example . Simple music that makes you move . Bill Wyman's bass intro on " Every Body Needs Some Body To Love " can still get me on my feet , and it was recorded in 1964 !! Jack's intro to " Badge " can send me into raptures . Listen to BASS . Paul .

Hello, Jack Bruce! Last night I drove up from San Jose to Berkeley to hear you and the rest of Ringo Starr's All-Star Band. It was a wonderful show. What a great idea to have people from different bands come together and play their hit songs. Say thanks to Ringo for me for putting it all together. You and Todd Rundgren really blended together well on "Sunshine Of Your Love" and "White Room". I have been wanting to see you in person for 30 years, and last night I finally got the opportunity. Great show, and keep on rockin'!!!

Thanks for the years. I played "Wheels of Fire" to death, but always liked the odd songs. One of my favorites Cream songs is "What a Bringdown". To this day, 2 of my favorite albums are "Songs for a Tailor" and "Harmony Row". Wish I had got "How's Tricks" I'm a little out of touch these days, but I still remember standing 10 feet off the front of the stage for West, Bruce and Laing in Chicago (some 9 months before the record ever appeared!). I stared in amazement while Jack did figure-eights with one finger and ALL THIS SOUND CAME OUT! I wanted to go home and throw rocks at my bass. Funny, after 25 years, a friend of mine who was there with me sent me a surprise - 2 CD's of that night. He had snuck in a cheap cassette recorder and taped it. The quality is awful, but it sure brought back memories.

Both signed all the stuff we had from albumn covers, cd jackets and pictures! I also have alot of Bruce and Cream live materials and would like to swap or buy any others. Still need Automatic!

hi, ive been a jb fan for quite a while, and have followed his work. but for a while i was interested in seeing mr. Bruce in concert here in san diego. finally he came with ringo's band...but it was in a 21 and up club!!! i am only 17, and jack is one of my favorate artists! im hoping that if jack does come again, that he considers going to possibly the cox arena like clapton, page and plant, aerosmith, and others have done. im sure that i could find many people under 21 to attend this concert. unfortunately, most of them would be cream fans, and not just jb fans, but i know that they would be blown away by his incredible bass playing. so, i just thought i would throw in my opinion on the subject.

I liked A Question of Time, which I purchased in the fall of 1990 when I returned to England to do graduate work (I had been Rhodes Scholar in England and saw this as an opportunity to get more into my musical as well as my scholarly interests) and was both impressed by its over-all quality---it has the balance and depth I had come to expect from Jack Bruce---and intrigued by some of the lyrics, liner notes and dedications.
I am passionate--some would say obsessive--about both my favourite author, Malcolm Lowry, and my favourite musician, Jimi Hendrix. I take it that Jack shares this dual interest, along with many others, and I wonder if he senses any affinity between their works and with them. I used to imagine a psychadelic sketches of Spain (or Mexico) with Hendrix and Gil Evans--starting perhaps with that outrageous electric flamenco on Captain Coconut, and leading God knows where.
If the summer jazz festival circuit or All-Starr band tour should take Jack to Vancouver, he might want to visit the Lowry Collection at the University of B.C., the Malcolm Lowry Room where Lowry did most of his writing of the novel. Also read both volumes of his selected letters.
I saw jack with Blues Saraceno in Poland about five years ago, which was great.
Cheers
mark
