Great web page, but then show me a better bass player, or for that matter, songwriter. It's amazing what Jack could do with Pete Brown's lyrics. Although I knew of Cream, I really got into Jack's music with his post-Cream solo albums. I am not a musician, but there is no mistaking those bass lines, and incredible imagination with his songs, which still sound fresh today, and I simply never get tired of hearing. In fact, I don't know of anyone over the years that I had listen to his records who wasn't impressed and enjoyed them. I see where some people were looking for a copy of AUTOMATIC, which I do have on vinyl and would be willing to make a copy on cass. I also have some boots if anyone interested in trading. Does anyone know if there are any plans to release the second Jack Bruce Band album, Jet Set Jewel? All we got was a taste of it on the WILLPOWER compilation. Regards..

I'm a big fan of Jack Bruce from the beginning to his current recording. I would just like to add that I'm a guitar and bass builder (www.kinal.com) and one day would like Jack to try one of my basses. I just finished one for Lonnie Plaxico. Keep up the great playing Jack!

I have been a Cream fan for about two years now. My 17th birthday, I asked for a bass guitar. My Reason? Why, the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of what I consider to be one of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century, of course!

Hi -- This is, first, to thank you for all the years and all the amazing music. Bought *Songs for a Tailor* not long after it was released in the States, and since then I've been an unabashed fan. My trade is the writing of poems, and your work has taught me important lessons about the balance of emotion and intellect in art. I still love *Harmony Row* and in particular "Folk Song" as much as ever, and there've been more high points since then that I should try listing here. I even heard the Bruce/Bley band on radio once (too many years ago now), so *Live on the Old Grey Whistle Test* is a special treat. I really hope there might be more from that band. Many Thanks, from a long-time listener. I'll keep coming back to this Web site to stay up to date. Many Blessings!

Jack Bruce, in my opinion, plays and sings so great, his performances always sound inspired! Some musicians play it safe, note for note...But Jack? He's always fresh improvisation...Now that takes a lot of courage...It's hard to always land on your feet when you take musical chances... I would like to see Jack jamming with Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Stewart Copeland on drums, and John Paul Jones on keyboard...Now that would be a strange brew indeed... In conclusion, I think Jack Bruce is the best!!!

I have been a fan since I heard I feel free on a juke box in Jamaica Inn in July 1967 at the age of 16. I have seen him at Chelsea colloege on the same bill as America and Pete Brown and Piblokto! for £1 in 1971! also at Cologne ( die Seche?). I met him nad had a chat after the play "The tooth of crime" and although he probably could have done without my company he could not have been kinder. A true gentleman. My favourite song - which ever I am listening to but if pushed "Bird alone". v

Jack Bruce. The man is a living musical legend. The concept of jamming or improvisation in rock music was not a reality before Jack. The most amazing aspect of Jack's talent is his ability to combine superior musical theory and technique with a flawless singing voice. No one musician that I've heard has quite that same balance of abilities.

For centuries my people labored erecting pyramids for guitarists, stone by stone, repetitive bassline by unfulfilling bassline...Jack Bruce led us out of bondage and abject servitude and into the Promised Land.

Thank you, Jack, for flaunting your id through music. I cherish the example you have set for all who practice our noble art.

I just recently started listening to CREAM and now I must admit Mr. Bruce is one of my favorite bass players. I have been messing around with the electric bass for a while now, depressed because I couldn't slap and tap like the others. But after listening to Mr. Bruce (and Sir McCartney) I realize that the essence of bass playing is what you feel and not how you can slap or how fast you can play. I cannot believe how Mr. Bruce can make quarter notes sound so good.

I've been a Jack Bruce fan since Graham Bond days. Seen Cream 3 times, but Jack's solo stuff is definately the best music in the world. Regretably not many appearances in UK but in recent years saw him with Blues Saraceno and Gary Husband at Clapham and Leeds, the epic Monjack gig at Queen Elizabeth Hall, London and last year at South Shields - Cream Revisited with Gary Moore and Gary Husband - brilliant. But I ache to see his best solo album stuff with an appropriate band!! Cheers Jack!!

The site is very informative and well laid-out. Jack is great. I listened to him in Cream as a youth and the genius of such tunes as "As You Said" only became apparent to me years later: after Stravinsky, Debussy, Mingus and other guys like that. Keep it up Jack!

Well I've just arrived at this site. Couldn't believe there is a web site devoted to Cream! As far as I know there has been no shrine made in their honour (apart from in the Roll Hall of Fame) but there should be. Nothing Eric Clapton has done before or since has reached the heady heights that he reached with Cream (and this is a sincere statement from a fan who lived in the days of Cream ,days which were like no other before or since). Cream's music inspired me to play, like so many others and it's good to see that the flame is kept burning.

Sorry I've already penned a note to the site but I just wanted to add one thing and that was about Derek's description of his meeting with Jack Bruce. I read it with understanding and sympathy at Derek's predicament. I unfortunately never got to meet my idol E.C. but I think if I had it would have gone much the way of Derk's meeting with Jack Bruce. This web site obviously has the right person running it. And it's an inspiration to past and present fans of Cream.

Cheers Laurence Cooper

Hi, this is my second try at getting a message through.

Loved Deryk's story about meeting Jack Bruce. Being a Cream fan since I first heard Fresh Cream and was totally blown away by it, and inspired by it too, I could really relate to Deryk's story. I always wanted to meet Eric Clapton but I could imagine it would have turned out the way Deryk described his meeting.

Anyway great to see that Cream continue to inspire people around the world. Crossroads was one of my biggest inspirations.

Great Web site

I've seen him live in concert twice and own many of his published works.

Mainly the thing which I would like to know is what it meant to be Jack Bruce -- what it meant to rise from nothing into Stardom ---- a kind of stardom that is and somehow seems uniuely different from the ordinary "living legends" we see see elsewhere. People like Barbra Striesand, Cher, they made millions and are famous yet it is Jacks contribution to the industry which seems uniquely different.

I don't think the real story of Jack Bruce has been published. Mainly its just snippets here and there of what life on the road was like, or what the nature of his working relationship was with Eric and Ginger and others.

I am only an ordinary person, average in every respect, so I do hold a fascination and admiration for people who demonstrate excellence in their profession and enjoy the taste of fame and wealth that is beyond my reach.

I would also like to know what kind of a person Mr. Bruce is. Does he have any hobbies like Gardening or ordinary things that other people do ?

I also notice that Mr. Bruces' tunes have a theme in them such as love being had and then lost, and losing ones' youth seems to be a common theme in his later music.

Has Jack had a hard life ? Is he a happy or unhappy person ?

Happy Birthday to Jack! Recently my wonderful wife bought me a copy of of "Eric Clapton & the Yardbirds featuring Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker" Imtrat GmbH of Landshut, imt 100.100 which says it is probably recorded in London in 1963 - the live recordings are although not credited to the great late Graham Bond are of the Graham Bond Organisation with a knockout version of "First time I met the blues " featuring John Symon Asher Bruce himself on vocals and co-vocals with Graham on " They call it Stormy Monday ". There are a number of Eric Clapton/Jimmy Page compositions as studio recordings one of which has one riff which resurfaced somewhat modified in "Sleepy time time"!

Eric is a wonderful musician but Jack progresses so much further!

Happy Birthday Jack

I've been a fan of Jack's since the 60's, especially tje Tony Williams Lifetime period. Check out my music, definitely new & cutting edge, unique and highly innovative.

Johnny Asia, Guitarist from the Future http://www.angelfire.com/ct/johnnyasia/guitar.music.html

http://www.mp3.com/johnnyasia

"Johnny's music is universal in the truest sense of the term. It embraces the musics of this world and anticipates those yet to be discovered in the future. In a recent concert at Pauline Oliveros Foundation's Gallery at Deep Listening Space, Johnny's riveting performance transported the audience across time to places MTV can only dream about."

Cadence Magazine said Joe McPhee is: "Probably the best saxophone/cornet instrumentalist in the history of jazz."

I think that it's really good that the 17 year old kids of now are getting into the music of the finest bass player since Bach. One thing puzzles me. Back in about 1972 I bought a JB albumn just after "Songs for a Tailor" (never did understand that title until today)but it was one I can find no reference to . It was a lot less commercial than SFAT. It had an all blue cover overlooking some old rooftops. Does anyone know what it was? Or was I dreaming?

A fan since Cream, with a particular fondness for a fellow-Scot, I remember a great gig at the Aberdeen Music Hall which is not in the database. It must have been around 1972 and the band was Jack, John Marshall and Chris Spedding. The show was a replacement for one cancelled due to illness. I wonder if that was a full tour that escaped the archivist's attention?

Looking forward to the next time,

Jack -- Just a note of thanks from a guy who, years ago as a young boy of seven and eight and nine, used to sit under the headphones back in my parents' house in Connecticut, and listen to Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire and wonder where the hell that powerful, marvelous music could possibly have come from. My one regret lately is that I didn't put any money down on Badge running in the Preakness, a 58 -1 shot who paid $18 to Show. Ha! You gotta bet with your gut. Another lesson learned. Anyhow, good luck, and thanks again for years and years of tremendous music.

No doubt, Jack is the GREATEST electric bassist and musician extraordinaire. Clapton is the problem in a Cream reunion disc and tour. Can anyone imagine the cash cow this would be? 100 mil plus for sure including tour and disc sales, not to mention misc. items. Clapton owes it to his fans that for the most part he developed during Cream. I have not purchased and don't intend to, any Clapton disc in years. He need to return to his roots. C'mon Eric, do what your fans want to see and hear, CREAM! One Last Serving. Comments? Let Me Know at my e mail address.

Sometime in 1987, I was an aspiring musician. I loved everything about music...especially the electric guitar and bass. I had heard about Jaco Pastorious through a guitar magazine, but I never listened to Weather Report... The years went by. I bought a couple of his albums... And I really liked what I heard... No shredding...but a lot of musicality...That was Jaco Solo... In late 1987 I went with a few of my best friends, to a Carlos Santana concert. After a few miles my piece of crap Nissan Sentra blew up...I told both of my drummer friends that it was ok if they went to the concert with my tickets... Little did I know they would meet a troubled Jaco at that concert...They did not exactly show any appreciation...He asked for a cold beer...{You, know drummers...no beer...they're too good for that...}

All I'm saying is that if I could go back in time and fix my piece of shit Nissan I could have saved the life of the best bass player ever>>.>%#

To Matt: That wonderful psychedelic SG that Eric had painted by the FOOL is now in the loving hands of Todd Rundgren who has preserved it wonderfully. There is an old Guitar Player magazine issue that was devoted to Clapton (Late 80's I think) that had a great picture of it with some nice modifications - the bigsby is gone and the tuners were replaced but it still looks unreal. I just got the DVD of Fresh Live Cream and the Revolution Club rehearsals are great although there is not enough footage of Eric when he is soloing!

I think an interesting Jack Bruce album would be an album of cello and voice music. I was listening to a friend practice the cello the other day-- Bach's Suite II for solo cello, BWV 1008--a beautiful minor piece. Anyway, the warm wooden tone filled the room. Later in the day I listened to Willpower, and I thought that an album with sparse songs similar to Folk Song and Can You Follow? would be beautiful if performed on voice and cello. Perhaps some piano could be added where necessary. I hope this idea sounds interesting as a future project. Thanks for the great music. Michael Ray

I would like to know why it is so hard to get Jack Bruce cd"s in the U.S.A. I can find some of theme but they want $34.95 plus shipping. $40.00 for a cd. I think that sucks! When I was a kid and CREAM lp's were abundent and at a good price. I just bought Wheels of Fire for $19.95 plus tax. Why are Jacks cd's so high? I bought Sitting on top of the world, Live at the Old Grey Wistle Test and I have alwayes wanted to do this for a lot less then I have been able to find. Is there anyplace that I can buy all of Jack's cd's without paying such prices? Please reply to <russell@lightstream.net>

Simply the best. I especially like the quieter numbers. Theme from Im. Western, Only playing games, etc.. And of course the blues numbers.

Jack once said that Bach was the Guv'nor when it comes to bass. Does he still think so. I am trying to learn some Bach for classical guitar and I think he was a genius.

Any thought about some acoustic material. What about an unplugged session ?

I'm a self-taught (super)drummer who learned by watching Cream and The Who in '68. Later, I soaked up jazz-rock with Mahavishnu, Miles, Weather Report, et al., and now I've come full circle. One of my life's ambitions is to play with Jack Bruce. I'd love to hear from other extraordinary musicians who are looking for soulmates, i.e., virtuosos who can back up the band AND take center stage.

Very annoyed at Shapiro´s nasty sleeve comments ( Bruce Live on OGWT cd) about Jack´s association with West and Laing. Surely this was a fruitful period for all three? To judge from the 3 official albums , plus bootlegs, there was a whole lot of good rock work going down. Seems Leslie and Corky aren´t highbrow jazz musicians, hence Harry the Weisenheimer´s intolerant stance! Bruce is forever linked to West/Laing/Pappalardi, like it or not. WBL moved mountains long before Sancious tried to! Wise up Harry!
