Jack Bruce is great... Listen People... Have a glass of your favorite drink....You too Jack.. and listen to "Since I've been loving you" by Led Zeppelin... You shall find the best guitar solo ever... Very minor key...If you are sad you will enjoy.... If you are happy you will analyze.... I love Jack Bruce... very good improvization.....

You're better than JACO...You invented the fretless...On top of everything you are a great singer... By great I mean you are the best.... When you sing Wrapping Paper... Man you are bad...ass...Can you play drums too?

I think Jack Bruce...to make big money... you have to give people what they want... Cream reunion... YOU Have to do it... It sounds shitty but you have to do it... give the people what they want...Fuck it Jack... You can use the money... Plus you owe it to everybody to show that you are a better singer than Clapton...please...You could take a better solo in your sleep....

Happy New Year!! Looking foward to another great year of music (From the present but mostly the past). Hopefully those Graham Bond cds will be found by all of you searching for them. According to some music sales web sites they are released but not availible, still on order. Graham Bond has a lot of material unreleased with or without The Organization. As for Jack and Ginger, let's get some more archive material out of the vaults. All those solo albums should be released. Take care!

Two months to go til JACK BRUCE hits Sydney! In regard to a previous comment, I don't know how JB could possibly owe anyone anything when he's played nothing but the best for four decades without selling out once. March 3 roll on - MW.

Thanks for the site - I'll be back!!!! This is just a flighty visit too late in the night back to my roots. Born in 1952, I grew up with the usual stuff. I play guitar, keys, drums, programme, run a music company etc. etc. But, after over 30 years of playing live, the BASS is still my main drive. Why? Fresh Cream as a young buck and all that followed. Now? A Conklin 7 string bass, and just as busy as ever on the awsome bugger.

Jack, I could say that music comes and goes, but it doesn't actually come that often any more. But surely the good stuff will come around again. Locally, it's definately up for it. For me, you are in my blood and the fire in my heart and guts. You are essential to the serious bass as breathing is to life. Never give in. I've missed out on all you've been up to and need to connect back to my roots by seeing you perform again 2000. So I'll be back to this brilliant site asap

Kindest regards and best wishes derek

x Steve

Jack I would love to see you and the other veteran rockers who performed on Midnight daydream heard by the rest of the world. Put the music to video that is the only way you can be heard today in the industry. The project is far to big to go unheard and far to worthwhile to let it go unnoticed.

I agree with the prior poster that a video would be nice.

I've been a lifetime Bruce fan and have bought just about every album, tape and CD he has ever made. And whenever he has come to town I've always tried to see his shows.I posted a prior message on this board and I must say that I simply cannot contain my enthusiasm for the Monkjack CD.

The Masters' presentation is exquisitely elegant. And Mr. Worrel's work on the Hammond B3 really puts the hook in me. Its' a different type of set ---- just piano and organ.

If your'e a middle aged Bruce fan like me, give it a listen. I found this CD to be exceptionally "listenable", pleasing to the ears on many different levels, and goes great with a dry martini after work !

I hope that Mr. Bruce continues in this musical direction.

Take Care.

As an 7 years old kid (i'm now 46), my mother took me to a free jazz concert. She taught me then to separate the sound of instruments, and i liked the best to listen the bass, so i've always put a special atention to this sound. I love the jack's bass sound on Cream and as a soloist. Many years later, my son Manuel, of seven, died 18 months ago in an accident. He got a little piano for fun, but i tink that the one who wanted to be a musician was me. So,I decided to buy a bass (a gibson of 240 USD)and learn how to play it, cause it makes me feel i hear my boy's heart beating. I don´t know music at all, but i have an educated ear and an elephantic memory. My method consist in hearing a song about 20 times until i got it. I began whit "Sleepy time time" and "sunshine of your love", and thou i'm far of the solo parts i enjoy doing it and feeling Jack is my teacher. I think i'm begining to understand the instrument (and maybe me). Best wishes.

I don't know if there is a video available for the 50th birthday concert. Lets' ask Derek. But by video, I hope that means DVD. Recently I installed a DVD player in my computer system and line-out the sound card to my stereo system. Its great.

I bought the Cities of the Heart CD two years ago and was absolutely stunned. I especially liked the Big Band sound on Sunshine Of Your Love. Its very hip.

I hope a DVD becomes available.

Hi, Jack!

Been a huge fan since I first saw Cream do "I feel Free" on TOTP in 1966, but especially after listening to your enormous contribution to the influential "Disraeli Gears". Changed my life, frankly! Got me into all sorts of areas and led to some great musical experiences.

I've seen you several times over the years. Personal favourite has to be the Lifetime gig in Bristol in 1970. Blew my socks off! Your spell at Ronnie's with Larry Coryell was something, too! I worked a month just to finance 2 nights at Ronnie's. It was unforgettable, plus I managed to meet you in the Downstairs Bar, where you kindly bought an impoverished schoolboy a double scotch! I did manage to repay the good deed at Manchester's "Band On The Wall" a few years later so I suppose we're all square on that one.

I've been listening to you a lot lately on "EOTH". Amazing stuff with Jack's Travelling Band, especially "Rawalpindi Blues". I do love listening to you and Johnny Mac playing together. I was lucky to have seen you (and with the awesome Tony, too, of course!). How did you feel playing with Paul Motian for the first time, given the influence that Scott La Faro had on you?

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know how much your music has meant to me and how it still plays a big part in my life. Great site, too!

Thanks for everything.

Mike

"performing" White Room that was absolutely horrible! How does one ruin such a beautiful song? Ask Eric. It was torture listening to it, but since it's Jack's song I had to give it a listen.

Excellent web site! Jacks playing inspired me as a fledgling bass player in the late 60's. His improvisation was unique & his ability to constantly surprise the listener by NOT playing "the Obvious" or the "Safe" option has always been a great source of pleasure to me. It is so good to know that he is still making a unique mark on music today. J.B.

Everyone has their own opinion, but to me Jack Bruce had stood the test of time since Cream some 30 years ago. Everything in blues, jazz and rock - Pastorius, McCartney, Clarke, Bromberg come to mind but nothing touches Jack. I would still rate Songs for a Tailor in my top 10 of all time. I was fortunate to see him live once in Dec. 89 in Detroit with Ginger Baker. Every song's bass line is consistently brilliant with Bach like classical overtones. Wish I could get an E-mail response like the web site author! God bless Jack. Hope to see you perform again.

The BBC did a documentary on Jack in 1969. On Omnibus I think. I seem to recall it was directed by Tony Palmer. It featured a studio session from The Songs For a Tailor line-up. Does anyone know if this programme still exists? Fresh Live Cream is an excellent video featuring 3 uncut live recordings of Sunshine, Tales of Brave Ulysses and Spoonful. In some London pub. Highly excellent.

Just to think of the musicians produced by Cream, still at their height in the year 2000!

After Cream split up - most people still heard of Eric (and why not), but Jack and Ginger disappeared from the limelight. Strangely enough it was my children who reintroduced me to him - and they were not even thought of in the days of Cream! One of my sons took up bass guitar and modelled his style on Jack. Around 94 or 95 I was flying to Amsterdam with my son and guess who was waiting for the same flight - Jack. We know he is a private man, but my son eventually approached him just to say that he admired his work.

Brilliant stuff, true musician and artist. Only I have not seen him live since the Cream Concert in Hyde Park in the 60s. Would love to get to his new tour. Must get his new album.

Thanks for the great music Jack - it just gets better.

Three weeks to go til Jack hits Sydney. Great to see there's going to be some West, BRUCE & Laing material on All Quiet In Cuicoland. That always seemed to be the most underestimated time in Jack's career to us. Can't wait. All the best - M&L.

I love Jack as a musician because I love music and he is a consummate musician. I have a Yahoo club and a web site both dedicated to music of all genre. Each is called A Love Supreme after the Coltrane classic. Each page of my web site is for a different musician or recording. Jack is page 3 after John Coltrane and John Lee Hooker. I am not trying to make any money off my site. I am just sharing the joy that is music. I have used your opening picture of Jack on my page for him and I have a link to your site. I hope this is acceptable to you. I am not intending to violate any copyright laws. If you wish you may check out my site. http://www.geocities.com/joseph_1949/home.html I wish Jack continued success. He is a great musician and my favorite bass player. I have "Golden Palominos" on back order at Tower records and I am looking forward to receiving it. By the way the Golden Palominos link on your site did not work. Peace, Joseph

Better late than never. Just like to thank Jack for some of the best musical experiences of my life. Heard Jack after I'd heard Entwhistle and Martin Turner, both great bass players. But discovered that bass by Bruce is a different thing altogether. Have the complete boxed set of Cream, Songs for a tailor, and a BLT album. Jack Bruce isn't exactly top of the pops here in India. That doesn't stop me though! If there's anyone reading this, do drop me a line. Always nice to hear from fellow followers of the greatest bassman I've ever heard.

Dear Jack,

It is clearly I who am honored by your personal response to my web site. It is odd that you should give me a boost by your graciousness today. When I awakened this morning I checked my clubs on Yahoo. One was gone. Here is the little ditty I posted so whomever did it would not know how much he had bothered me.

John Lee Hooker Lives On

I woke up this morning and turned my computer on I clicked on John Lee Hooker club and it would not come on Someone must have deleted it I knew right from the start but I was not mad, I threw no fit I would not act that part Yahoo Club johnleehooker is no more so I just started in building him another one and he is back again

http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/johnleehookerliveson

If you want blues dedicated to the boogie king join and bring a friend

(I created it November 24, 1999. Before it was deleted it was tied for 17th place in its category and had 28 members. Thems the breaks)

You have helped to lift my spirits and encourage me. Thanks,

Joseph

While you were sleeping, we were trying to have a sleepy time time, but kept rollin' and tumblin' instead of dreaming and realised we were going wrong. We went down to the crossroads, but were lost without a song in the deserted cities of the heart. We felt like outsiders waiting for the call. It was only a question of time - train time, as you said, in the white room with black curtains at the station, waiting for the last train to the stars. I felt like a little boy lost, when she asked, "Can you follow?" I said,"Whatever turns you on." Then the politician smiles and grins, "Gone too far?" "No", we said, "Just waiting on a word, but we're close enough for love." "Yeah, but can you afford the high cost of loving when you're on the wrong side of town?" he asked. "Hey we're laughing on music street and quite prepared to grease the wheels! Anyway, how's tricks?" "All quiet in Cuicoland."

Looking forward to seeing him "live" in Melbourne on 11 March - after all these years. (Hope the Stadium's ready in time!)

The "Continental" in Melbourne would be a great venue for Jack to do his own thing while in town.

Anyway, CAN'T WAIT!.

After discovering a love of bass through the amazing Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath fame, I came across an interview with Geezer where he spoke about the influence of Jack Bruce. Curious and wanting to hear more, I purchased "Disraeli Gears" and have now bassically (to use a pun) fallen in love with Cream and Jack's work. This page has served its humble purpose of detailing just a part of Jack's story. Thank you and keep rocking!

P.S: If there is a known Cream Tabs page, would anyone be so kind as to email it to me? :)

Dear Jack,

I was wondering whether you could tell me whether the performance from which the cd set Cities of the Heart was recorded is availlable on video anywhere. I would very much like to order it if possible. I also wish to say that it is quite a tease at the end of "Sunshine" when you say "You'ld like some more? We'll see what we can do." The sheet music for Will Power in the booklet makes me want to hear that live.

I acquired "Turn it Over" the other day. I like it very much. It is one of those recordings that cannot be pigeonholed. It stands by itsself. Very creative. Nice to hear you and McGlaughlin together. Did you ever happen to work with Sonny Sharrock?

Peace and love, Joseph

We watched a documentary on TV the other night of Steely Dan, about the making of their Aja album. It was a buzz seeing Walter Becker & Donald Fagen running through how they made the record. It would be brilliant to see a video released with some footage of Jack Bruce recording Quicoland, and then going through the tracks in the studio, explaining what was involved. Maybe it could also show Jack performing some of the tracks Live. M&L.

I have just read Jack's message ergarding his pulling out of the Australian leg of the Ultimate Rock etc tour.

My first reaction is of course bitter disappointment. However, support for JAck's contention about problems with the promoter are confirmed by the way Jack's pull-out has been handled. In the last two days the ads have excluded Jack's name and added "an extra special guest" Australia's Jimmy Barnes. I was suspicious andlooked up your site to find my suspicions confirmed.

In a way I'm pleased Jack won't be part of this tour. I have the album (on which Jack doesn't appear) and am disappointed with the choice of some of the material (Give Peace a Chance for heavens sake) I've also seen a video of the show and whilst it will undoubtedly improve in a live context, the performance did not greatly excite. The stand out performer was Gary Brooker with Whiter Shade of Pale and Conquistador.

In summary therefore I am disappointed but not heartbroken - provided Jack keeps his promise to come with Ringo later this year.

When I heard last year that Jack was coming I took the liberty of approaching a Sydney venue "The Basement" in the hope that they could liaise with the promoter and Jack's management for Jack to do one or two shows of his own material. The Basement is basically a jazz venue but caters to an eclectic style of music. I gather from Chris Richards of the Basement that he was interested but got nowhere with the promoter.

Jack if you come with Ringo have a think about the proposal of a gig at the Basement. I''ve spoken to other JB fans who agree it would be a great venue. Talk to Billy Cobham - he's played there a number of times and is due back in March.

I have just learnt the news about Jack not coming to Australia. I have lost my enthusiasm see the Adelaide performance of the URS. It would have been the end of a thirty year wait to see Jack perform live. I can understand the reason for cancelling because Jacks ability would not have been adequately realised in such a concert. Please come to Adelaide if you can later in the year ( I will buy all the tickets myself if required ).

I will appreciate the fact that Jack nearly came to Australia for the contacts I have made with other fans, particularly Marc and Lorraine.

Goodbye for now Jack.

Dear Jack:

Saw you last year with Ringo in Berkeley and you were the highlight. Stole the show. Of course I love you bass playing buy, by the way, thought the way it was miked or something took something away from you. Honestly.

You can't electronizize drums unless you play a fucking drum machine. Ringo wouldn't do that, right? But the way they had your bass amped, well, it sounded like the equivalent of a drum machine. Maybe that's the way you wanted it. If so, than you sounded like your self. But...

Probably my damn ears playing tricks on me.

Anyway, love you man, you/re an inspiration to me and I play that lick of yours from "Badge" a lot.

Stay healthy, this world needs artists like you.

All the best,

Sincerely,

Mark Kurita

I have now had the chance to calm down from the news that Jack won't be coming to Australia with the Ult Rck Symph etc. I have been buoyed by the entries of other OZ JB fans.

Jack, you will see that you have a hard core of dedicated fans out here. We were prepared to pay large sums to see you, knowing that we were likely to only see you fleetingly and probably restricted to "Sunshine of Your Love" and "White Room" to appease the masses. Having seen the video of Ult Rck etc I admire the stance you have taken (indeed if there is any chance that Gary Brooker is not coming there will be at least two tickets for the gig going cheap) but still am shattered that the chance to see you after something like 32 years of wanting to has been at least deferred.

The All Stars will be better than Ult Rck etc but after the wait we've had we would dearly love to see you doing your solo stuff as well. I have no doubt appropriate venues would jump at the chance. Please consider.

Even if the Ringo thing doesn't materialise there are enough good venues (as opposed to arenas (should that be arenae)in the capital cities and larger regional areas to make a tour by yourself and your own band to make the tour worthwhile.

Looking forward to the new album - keep us posted Derek.

We got a kick out of reading MAFZZ's entry on Gerard's Pages (Oct.29,1999) and Mike Murtagh's entry on this page (25 Jan. 2000). There was also one from a lady in Russia, that has since been wiped, but was very enjoyable to read. If anyone has a Jack story to tell on here, we're sure other fans would love to hear it. Generally speaking, just THANKS for all. It's an admitedly drunken evening here in the Sierra foothills and eventually the evening burns down to one up manship of tunes to be played, and as has often happened before, I played Victoria Sage and no one knows what to play after that, of course eventually we get back to our drink, but there's always that pause that my buddys have come to call "That Jack Bruce thing" that eventually brings the house down, and tickles me so. So thanks Jack, for the music that endures and makes the day. Until Such Time. ms

Years ago, we had the good fortune to see Willie Dixon Live in Sydney. It was a wonderful experience. It's very pleasing to read that Jack has included another WD composition on his All Quiet In Cuicoland CD. In the Sept/Oct 93 Bass Player, Jack said of Willie, "I loved him. He was the Einstein of the blues - marvelous!" Jack's treatment of Willie's "Blues You Can't Lose" on A Question Of Time is one of our favourite JB blues numbers. -M&L.

Regarding an earlier comment by Kiwi, Chris Mansfield, Mitch Mitchell wrote in his book, The Hendrix Experience, that, "(Peter) Green in fact gave Hendrix a great run for his money and was one of the few guitarists who wasn't in awe of him, you know, he didn't say, 'Oh God, I've seen Hendrix, I'm gonna die!'" In the July 1985/Guitar Player, Jack Bruce said, "I played with Jimi Hendrix, and he had everything. He had this feeling of transcending everything, that he was coming from somewhere else." Personally, one combination we'd love to see JB get together with Ginger and Johnny Winter in Oz and NZ. - M&L.

I wasn't aware you were not appearing in the U.R.S tour until THE night. In a way, maybe it was best that I didn't know before hand. It had been a real "buzz" for the 5 months looking forward to seeing you.

Jack, I appreciate you diary message.....and that I will have the pleasure seeing you later in the year.

Cheers! Best wishes, Chris.

compared to eric and ginger, were you really that good? Do you think they would want you back for the Cream reunion? Just wondering, that's all. Wasn't it your hard drug consumption, along with ginger's that fucked the whole thing up? It ruined my life when you guys broke up. I liked you more than Hendrix. The raw jams of cream versus the wailing feedback of hendrix... who could ask for more??

I listened to the JB Internet Radio Show and really enjoyed it.

Being a lifetime Bruce fan, I was especially delighted to hear audio clips of the interview with Mr. Bruce. Jack really came across as a very charming, personable and likeable fellow with a good sense of humor.

In addition to being a Bruce fan, I also have a very large CD collection of other Artists and listen to the radio quite a bit ---- keeping current with the popular artists and songs of the day.

You know I am amazed at the “staying power” of Mr. Bruces’ Music.

Just the other day I went into 5 separate music stores in Boston to shop for CD’s and sure enough in every store there was a section for BRUCE, JACK. That is absolutely amazing when you think of all the popular bands which have come and gone over the past thirty years --- their stuff is hard to find in the stores.

It is a great tribute to the talent of Mr. Bruce and the importance of his lifes’ work, that he still commands a place in the very competitive retail shelf space in the record stores.

Keep it up !!!

We are definately buying the new CD !!

I've been around for 46 years so was at a very excitable age when Cream were doing their (scrapyard) thing. As a 'would be" bass guitarist Jack was the ultimate for me. Those thundering bass lines on the Gibson EB3 shook my stereo and deepened my appreciation for what is possible in music.

I followed Jack's solo career closely and awaited each new album with tremendous anticipation. I wasn't let down.

I'm very excited that Jack is finally able to make it 'down under' when he tours with Ringo Starr's band. Is it possible at this stage to indicate which month that might be?

Best regards, Steve Kernohan

Thanks for the lyrics. Solved a couple 20-yr old mysteries for me. When we were 17 in '80, rock'n'roll kinda flaked out.My droogies & i holed up in grandma's basement and learned the entire Cream catalogue. There were certain lyrics that we couldn't figure out because they were so abstract- just a word here & there.i've been playing bass for a living since '84. In that time i've only had ONE straight job. Thanks, Jack for setting me on the PATH. i nicked a lot of chops from you. God Bless.

Crossing the Bay Bridge to San Francisco I remember saying to the four others as they split some acid, I made the comment that I didn't care whether Jack played bass, piano, guitar, or just sang. I got some funny looks, but thats good. Ended up at some dive, saw Jack put Jaco to shame while singing his heart out. A Letter Of Thanks, Rope Ladder, most of How's Tricks, an ecstatic, passionate evening. Ranks up there with Gabor Szabo, the Dead, King Crimson recently at Seattle Paramount (lovingly remodeled recently), It's A Beautiful Day at the closing of Fillmore (I think). In the middle of one of the guitar players solo he broke one of the top strings. He didn't break stride or miss a note and finished his solo as if the string wasn't even broken. Yeah!!!

it all started when i was 15 in 1985, white room from wheels of fire caught my ear. i went on to puchasing other cream albums, but then realised that jack had his own catalogue of solo albums and began purchasing those. SONGS FOR A TAILOR, HARMONY ROW, OUT OF THE STORM, etc. i immediately fell in love with his voice, his bass playing, and his piano playing. I loved it right off the bat with CREAM, but even more so with his solo albums.

Great Website!! Jack Bruce was the first bass player I actually noticed because he was playing riffs instead of plodding along under the rest of the band. His interaction with Ginger Baker was inspirational probably only matched by John Paul Jones & John Bonham. I bought an EB3 after listening to Jack (& Jim Lea of Slade - another great bassist who plays riffs)
