Very sad to learn of Jack's passing some months after the event. The searing voice of a quintessentially romantic soul. His music has always meant a lot, especially the early solo material (Harmony Row). Thanks to him for his enrichment of my life.

My favourite bass players to study and listen to when I was a teenager in a rock band back in the "60's was Jack Bruce and Paul McCartney. Their playing styles were so unique and they set the course for most aspiring bass players of the day. When I listened to Jack Bruce my jaw would drop from trying to imagine just what he playing. He was so gifted and his music is timeless.I am saddened by the news of his passing and send my sincere condolences to his family.

Jack has been my favourite bass player and rock-blues singer for over thirty years. The stuff he did with Cream was ground-breaking, particularly for such a young man. Then, at age 33 he mentored by drum hero, Simon Phillips, who was just 19. They formed the most creative and inspiring rhythm section I've heard in any genre. I was very moved by Simon's tribute on the legacy page. Rest in Peace, Jack. Thanks for so much wonderful music, and an leaving an extraordinary legacy as a musician and man. Andy

My sympathy to Jack's family, friends & fans. I've just now found out about his departure from this world and was struck by the thought that this genius was mortal after all. I grew up with the music of superband The Cream and always when I find their music on a car-stereo or on some music playlist, I feel a teenager again. Probably as long as I live. Rest in Peace Jack, and thank you for the music!

Jack Bruce was the most exciting thing to happen to rock in many ways in the explosive 1960's. Many hundreds of listens to Crossroads from Wheels of Fire, with Jack and Eric in a guitar bass war of intense music. I have always loved to hear the subtle and sophisticated nuances of Jack's classical mixed with jazz and the bluesy feel of it all in his musical approach. His will last and even grow with time. I appreciate that Jack made personal progress and kept on playing thru to the end.

Agree with Waters that Jack was most musically gifted rock bassist ever. He compared favorably with jazz'a best bassists and was always gracious. In the mid 70's, Jack was kind enough to speak with me after a gig...which many of "the stars" wouldn't do. God bless the family and friends of Jack. Every time I listen to Cream (or any of JB's stuff), I marvel and smile. "Things We Like" is one of the great absurd, musical recordings ever made. Peace!

Young in age, old in soul; a bassline on vinyl carried me to an exciting place away from squalor of a New York ghetto. The unfamiliar sensation of inspiration ran through my veins replacing the false ingredients pumped in since thirteen. It became my heartbeat, my pulse, my one true possession. Over four decades passed and the inspiration still allows me to feel free. Thank you, Jack.

The loss of Jack Bruce still reverberates big-time in the halls of jazz, blues and rock. Probably there was no greater virtuoso who could do it with the best of them across all areas of music with his vocals, bass, improvisation, writing - you name it. Jack also had a great sense of humor. We miss that wit and look forward to celebrating his life at the Sunshine memorial concert this fall. God bless Jack and his family.

Thank you Mr Bruce. It was the music and bass playing of Jack Bruce who changed my life for the better. At the age of 16 I first heard his powerful sound and fell in love with it. I'm still in love. Hearing Cream playing live for the first time I was moved by the passion and beautiful note placing that has kept me smiling for many years. It was also the start of my own musical journey because I discovered a bass player and a composer in me.

In loving memory...his music helped me through difficult times... "I HOLD that when a person dies His soul returns again to earth; Arrayed in some new flesh-disguise Another mother gives him birth. With sturdier limbs and brighter brain The old soul takes the road again..."

One of my earliest music memories is my parents listening to Cream. I Feel Free, Badge, Sunshine Of Your Love, SWALBR, The White Room, Crossroads and more were some of the first songs i knew & the members were some of the first musicians names i knew and knew that they were great players. When i was a teen in my first bands, i grew up covering Sunshine Of Your Love, partly inspired by Living Colour covering it for True Lies as they are my favourite band. When i was first trying to get somewhere with music (not that i have now stopped!) i called up what i thought was Jack's management, not realising it was his family home and Margrit was very sweet and encouraging. i really should have followed up on that but i felt kind of invasive so never did. so i genuinely wish her and the rest of the family well and join them in celebrating jacks' life and his incredible contribution to music. for real musicians he was a godfather & pioneer. lee x

I was playing in one of my first bands in high school and at a fraternity house at The University of Western Ontario when a female student asked if we played any Cream. She had just returned from England where Cream and Jimi Hendrix had become huge. I told her I hadn't even heard of them. She said I certainly would. I began my search of record stores and when I finally found the first Cream record, I was blown away. I saw them at Massey Hall in Toronto on their only tour and Jack became my favorite musician for years to come. Still love him and we still play Cream and Jack Bruce songs in my present day band. We miss him but it is wonderful to be able to still enjoy his amazing and inspirational music.

A true inspiration to generations of bass players, myself included, as well as other musicians. Many are the driver I blew trying to get his bass sound! Lol! Clapton God ?? bit steep that one. 50 years old massive skynyrd fan and just discovered cream via guys from skynyrd saying heroes were cream so followed links to cream utube... and JESUS!! Always had a thing that musical excellence comes out of scotland and wales also, bon, angus, texas del amitri, jones, bassey blahdy blah... and this just reinforces. The unique ( as it seems to me pre ozzy ) wailing and moaning and bang on bass is something very new to me (although very old too some) new and exciting to me. Obviously now discovered cream they were the forerunners for a lot to come after. Personal view so far, GOD was twins named bruce&baker... claptrap was okay till he opened his trap. Seriously. Just discovered Cream... many avenues to discover. Bit late but cheers Cream!!!!

His place in the history of music will be enshrined forever i am sure of that. Without his creative touches the bands he played in would not be the same bands. Jack Bruce was my teacher and inspiration. I learned that there was so much more possible with the bass guitar than the traditional thump-thump thing ! I spent many many hours listening to Wheels of Fire and his amazing work on that album, both instrumentally and vocally. There was a time f someone had snuck on me and yelled "Say Something" I would have blurted 'Jack Bruce' - I loved him and his music from my first listening of Fresh Cream - reading the liner notes on Wheels of Fire I realized how fantastic versatile - he was - bought all his solo albums Songs For A Taylor n to Silver Rails and any album he sang or played on - Turn It Over - Escalator Over the Hill! The work with Kip Hanrahan - with Robin Trower - with Leslie West - Golden Palominos - Berlin - I listened to Jack Bruce almost every day - Sometimes all day - He was great from the beginning and got greater - The greatest. My favorite music-maker. His body has finished its work among us but Jack Bruce and his music are alive and kicking - I can hear him right now singing: 'My train left yesterday, but I'm still here to today' (Like A Plate) oh my... I made myself cry - o

I recently listened to Songs For A Taylor and Harmony Row which are 2 of my favorite solo albums by Jack. I'm 60 years old and these songs bring back good memories. I have also gotten around to listening to the Cream recordings again and the music is great and the production is also exceptionally well for it's time ( we have Felix Pappalardi to thank for this, God rest his soul). The Cream studio recordings have aged well over time, perhaps like a fine wine ages well over time. The live recordings are different and interesting in and of themselves. I had read somewhere that Jack, Eric, and Ginger would go off on their individual improvisational excursions yet they still managed to come together to end the song. Examples of this can be heard on the live versions of Sweet Wine, N.S.W., and Spoonful. Anyway, I have made comments here before and I just wanted to touch base again. Thank you to Jack Bruce's family for keeping this open guestbook. I really appreciate it. RIP Jack.

We played his songs in our bands and throughout my whole life he always was "the voice & the bass" for me. Now, in my older days, I'm still with him remastering his productions (right now e.g. "Seven Moons" with Robin Trower) for today's music lovers and for the future. I first saw Jack with Cream at the Whisky-a-go-go before they were even known in the states - hadn't had their first hit. They played two sets a night two nights in a row. I attended all four where my mind was so altered that i never looked back. Jack did Traintime harmonica solo for 25 minutes as did each of the band their solos. All of my life and I am 72 now I tried as hard as I could to be as good a player as Jack, but he has always held the spot I craved when it comes to bass playing and singing. It is still hard to fathom this loss...... Patrick Burke of the "Fields"

I was saddened at the passing of Jack.We got no chance to see the Cream here ,one my mates Greg Hooke(musician) said he had a great voice,I agree and had several Cream albums.Of course his bass playing was brilliant and I have a copy of the 2005 reunion concert at the Albert Hall.He seems a gentle person and caring with a great talent,we won't see the likes of Jack again with his charisma.r.i.p. Mate, god bless.ps,Greg is going to tape some of his solo albums for,I can't wait.Dave.

Jack had the most beautiful and haunting voice, NOBODY WILL EVER BE EQUAL. I love all his work, and wish he would have hung out a while longer... Thank you for making the music world different, with your voice, and my life better. Heaven is good for you...

I missed Cream in 65. For my birthday I was given 2 tickets to see Jack at Madison Square with the Cream tour in 2005. There is no one else who has influenced my life like he did, If I was on a desert island, "I'm so glad" would be the song. God bless you Jack..................Keep rocink pal
