Jack Bruce was a fantastic musician who influenced a whole generation of Rock n Roll musicians. As a member of Cream who did it all writing, singing and playing he helped to change the ways bands were structured at that time into the whole power trio format. Cream was one of the greatest Rock bands of all time and accomplished so much in the short time they were together. Jack was one of a kind as a bass player and what a singer with that clear powerful voice. His talent will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family and all of the fans all around the world.

I am very saddened to hear of Jack's death. He is one of my favourite musicians-vocalists ever, and easily was the greatest rock bass player ever. Unfortunately I never saw Jack play live, but I have his music all the way from Alexis Korner to "Silver Rails", and treasure my original copies of many of his solo albums. My heartfelt condolences to the Bruce Family for their and the entire worlds loss. He possessed a magnificent influence on musicans and nonmusicians alike. We as audiences that were fortunate enough to have attended his performances and those too who listened at home to his albums will for ever be in gratitude for his creative and aggressive muscianship and compositional genious. I even recall singing some of his songs softly to my niece as lullabys when she was a baby.

I first saw Jack with Cream in 1967 in New York City. I saw him again with Leslie West in 1971 or 1972, and last, in the 80s with Ginger Baker. Most of all, even beyond his obvious talent, I loved his sincerity and heart which he put into his music. It's a great sadness to learn of his passing. Rest in peace, dear Jack.

Jack was one of the most consistently creative and inspiring musicians we are ever likely to see. I first heard him in Cream while in high school in 1968. Spent much of those years trying to play his songs, even after he started his solo career. Harmony Row will always be one of my all time favorite rock albums.Then the work with Michael Mantler, Carla Bley? Great stuff. Saw him just last year with the Lifetime Band. He sounded great. So this came as a shock. He's left us so much music that we can't complain about his departure though. He gave everything he had to give. And then some.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Jack Bruce's passing. I was a great fan and attended a concert on the Cream farewell tour in about 1968. I never understood why Eric Clapton is a international superstar, and Jack lived in relative obscurity. He wrote and sang almost all of Cream's songs, and played all of the instruments except lead guitar and drums. Not just one of rock's greatest bassists, but greatest singers as well. Go listen to "Politician." RIP Jack Bruce.

I know that Jack Bruce will live on, if not physically, in the hearts and minds of millions, especially me. My perception of music changed greatly after listening to Cream. I was a teenager, and in my first band (drummer). The sound palette that they produced was astounding, but I always listened to the unique flourishes played on the bass by Jack Bruce. I also appreciated the really unique vocal delivery and great song writing skills that he possessed. I was afraid that the "recent" reunion might be sad, with them only being a reflection of their former greatness. I was wrong- they shined, and especially Jack. His playing and vocals were as strong and intriguing to listen to as always. A quick story- I saw him with Ringo Starr's "All Star Band" at a now-defunct resort called Konocti Harbor in the late 1990s. The morning following the show, I saw his wife and young son at the playground, where I was watching my young niece (about 6 years old). She played with Jack's son on the swings for awhile, and, as we were leaving, said that she liked him, and could she ask him for his email address (at 6...). I said that it was okay, but she came back empty-handed, as I respectfully expected. Thank you, Jack Bruce, for the enormous contribution that you made to the world of music. My most sincere condolences to your family and loved ones.

God bless Jack Bruce, May 2, 2005 watched Cream walk on stage from standing room only balcony at Royal Albert Hall, after their brief 37 year absence! Outstanding performance I will never forget! Borrowed a friends copy of Jack"s autobiography and was saddened to realize that Jimi Hendrix, drummer Tony Williams and Jack were to release an album in September 1970, however Jimi passed before they began - can only imagine the result! Perhaps Jack and Jimi are re-united and tuning up!

Sorry to hear this. God Speed Jack! Mr. Bruce was responsible for me switching over from Guitar to Bass. First time i seen him was with Cream at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit, after that i rarely missed him when he rolled into town. Jack Bruce band at the Eastown, and with Baker and Moore and BLT. The West Bruce & Laing show at the Cinderella was so loud that we didn't even know our car was already running, because nobody could hear after that show--haha. Had the special privilege to meet Jack and Ginger when they played the Rare Cherry outside of Detroit. Jack and Ginger were sitting at the bar and we bought them a drink and then talked for about a half an hr. It was like they were old friends--TOTALLY COOL!!! Jack could Sing and Play through WET CONCRETE!!! Peace Brother.

One of the first big musical influences of my life came when my older brother brought 'Disraeli Gears' home from university in 1967 - from there I was a lifelong admirer of Jack Bruce's music. The band " Cream " had one of the biggest impacts on me me , I had heard hit songs on the radio from Cream's first LP " Fresh Cream " when I was 10 years old , but it would be the hit song " Sunshine Of Your Love " that would have more impact on me than any other song and like many Cream fans , I was crushed when Cream disbanded in '68 , but under the circumstances , I beleive it was actually healthier for the band members to go in their seperate directions . Over the years , I had discovered Jack bruce solo LPs along with albums he had put together with many great artist like Robin Trower , Leslir West , Corkey Laing and even an LP that I have titled " BBM " ( Bruce - Baker - Moore ) and I would like to add that Gary Moore and Thin Lizzy were my very favorite of the 70's , but it was Cream that stood the test of time and Jack Bruce along with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker made Cream who it was and I am sad to see people like Jack Bruce who had such a great impact on all of us over the years leave us so soon he contributed a lot to world of music and even though I never met him or saw him perform , like many entertainers , he will be missed !

My condolences to the family of Jack Bruce. My favorite rock musician and rock composer. Cream was brilliant but the solo work really allowed Jack Bruce to leave his singular mark on rock music history. The Big Three (Songs For a Tailor, Harmony Row and Out of the Storm) are unparalleled in rock music for their compositional creativity. The many projects, the work with Kip Hanrahan, A Question of Time, Shadows in the Air, musical riches everywhere. Three songs linger in my mind with the passing of Jack Bruce: As You Said, Victoria Sage and Directions Home. Haunting songs. Rest In Peace Jack Bruce.

Here's a funny story, when Cream first played the Grande BallRoom in Detroit in 1967, they finished the show kinda late. This was on ChristMas Eve, with a snow storm already brewing outside. Eric Clapton wanted to get back to England for ChristMas Day, so Russ Gibb the brainchild of the Grande addressed everyone over the PA that this had to be accomplished!!! Believe it or not, the whole audience carried the equipment out the side door so the Cream could hop on a jet and get back in time for ChristMas!!! Jim McCarty (Detroit Wheels, Buddy Miles,Cactus, Rockets) was backstage at this concert with his little cassette tape recorder. After getting permission from the band to tape them, he discovered there was only one hitch to bootlegging them. He had to go out and buy the band some wine before they went on--haha

I wished I could have been able to see and hear Jack play the bass one more time. Now he has passed away - may he rest in peace and be remembered as the great musician and person he was. I loved the music of "Cream" in my young days (around 1990 .. actually already considered old stuff back then). Jack Bruce was an artist, and he stands alone at the top of my zigurat. All that talent, all that pain. Not an easy man. I saw him play many times, but one moment stands out. He was playing at Toads Place in New Haven, and as they started up things were so out of whack he stopped the band cold - he was very pissed off. What did he want? "I want more of everything and I want it now." We will all miss you so. Peace, Jack.

This is to make clear my deep respect to the work of Jack Bruce. For me it is the most awful news, to read of his death. There are two albums(DVDs) in my possession, that will stay there forever. It's the Cream farewell concert of 1968 and the reunion concert of 2005, which both took place in Royal Albert Hall. I saw creams original last concert in Madison Square Garden Nov.2 1968. Everyone knows Jack as a great bassist, Ever listen to his harmonica on "Traintime"?Or viola on "As you said" He was great on other instruments as well. Jack Bruce was the greatest bass player I ever saw in a live performance, and it gave me hours and hours of pleasure to listen to him on records. Whether it was the "Fresh Cream" record or "Big Nick" with the Tony Williams Lifetime, or his outstanding solo work, he could play in any style. And that tone of his! Hearing him play with that fat, aggressive sound made me switch from piano to bass, and I am sure there are hundreds of other aspiring young musicians who did the same. A gifted composer too, beyond the hits everyone knows: "Theme for an Imaginary Western," "Out into the Fields," "To Isengard," "Folk Song," "Rope Ladder to the Moon" and so many others were proof of that gift. A talented multi-instrumentalist too, really the consummate musician in every sense of the word. He blessed us with so much extraordinary music in a life that was well-lived. I regret that his life has come to an end, and I feel a deep sense of loss today, but that music of his--it will live on as long as people have ears to listen.

I was profoundly saddened to learn of Jack's passing. I have been a fan since attending my first Cream concert in Chicago in October, 1968,through being fortunate enough to attend one of the London reunion concerts in May,2005. I saw creams original last concert in Madison Square Garden Nov.2 1968. Everyone knows Jack as a great bassist, Ever listen to his harmonica on "Traintime"?Or viola on "As you said" He was great on other instruments as well. Also thought he had one of the best voices in rock. Always one of my favorites,very sorry he's gone but he left us with great music and that's a gift very few have.

First heard cream about thirty years ago when i was 18 when i discovered a Cream vinyl compilation in my local grocer...very strange to find this vinyl record in a shop that sold potatoes etc. Loved Cream ever since. I've been a fan of Jack's since the Cream days. I had the great fortune to see him twice with West,Bruce and Laing and once with and Friends in Denver. His playing and singing knocked me out. One of the great musical highlights of my life was hearing Jack play Theme for an Imaginary Western backed by Billy Cobham, David Sancious and Clem Clempson. i was 15 and a budding bassist when Cream emerged in 1966. Jack Bruce became my first bass idol. I've been playing bass ever since, through jazz and rock iterations, and have appreciated other bassists along the way. But to this day my style continues to be influenced by Jack. I will miss him.

Played in the Bamford's the support band to Jack and DHS in the 80s at the Band on the Wall, Manchester when he was there with Norman Beaker Band. He was a very pleasant man very down to earth and approachable (so was Dick) , a monster musician. Love his writing and the later Latin work he did. very sad day.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Jack's passing. He has been one of my absolute favorite musicians and artists ever since I first heard "I Feel Free". And while Cream was a tremendous band, I have been moved and inspired more profoundly by Jack's solo music. I feel fortunate to have seen him perform several times during tours to Southern California, and once managed to get him to autograph the sunset picture of the cover to the vinyl version of "Harmony Row". Everyone knows he was one of the greatest bass players, but the voice of the man, and his composing remain vastly underrated. All I can say, with the deepest respect and gratitude, is thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart...

I just found out and I'm in tearful shock. This man has been in my pantheon of heroes since I was old enough to rock out. That epic voice, nimble, thundering bass, those far ranging compositions, his intelligence, inspirational passion and musical courage...I'm deeply saddened by his death and deeply thankful for his life at the same time. Nothing to do but mix a cocktail, light up a semi-rare spliff, and listen to Jack's great legacy of music that will resound through the ages. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. It was Jack's voice, that glorious tenor, that impacted on me when I first heard it in 1967, rather than his bass work which I came to admire later. 'White Room' was an epiphanic experience, and remains so to this day. The bass lines on 'I Feel Free', 'Sitting On Top Of The World (live)' and so many others were entrancing, pioneering. Now, like his fellow trailblazer John Entwistle, he is gone. Thank you for the music, Jack. Condolences to your family and those close to you.

Jack was my inspiration as a teenager and my first real bass was a Gibson EB-3 with a Sunn stack. Jack was the ultimate bassist who supported when necessary and took the lead when it was time. He knew how to work the low notes and then add the high notes for accent and color rather then the other way around. He remained true to his roots and showed his love for jazz and blues til the end. No better bass ever in a trio!
