In the white room with black curtains near the station Black roof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes Dawn light smiles on you leaving, my contentment Those lyrics could be a threnody for Jack. The writing, the musicianship, the creative tension that brought us Cream when three superlative talents combined. Irreplaceable.

R.I.P., Jack Bruce. You had already grabbed the sky. "When I hear that big black whistle they blow I feel inside it's time for me to be going Fortunately baby, I'd already gone before... Good time train well it does not need any track It wins the race to the place where I'm gonna pack up Fortunately baby, I'd already grabbed the sky..." Fortunately for us, you shared your limitless genius with us mere mortals and enriched our lives. Thank you. Our deepest condolences to the Bruce family and close friends.

Jack inspired me to pick up a bass guitar many years ago because he showed the world what a dynamic and exciting player he was. I bought a Gibson EB3 bass and dreamed of him signing it for me but sadly that is now not possible, but I will treasure it in his memory instead. Love to Jack and all his family.

I'm sorry for the family of jack's loss. I remembered him last night by throwing on some vinyl. Best of Cream, BLT, West Laing Bruce and Songs for a tailor...Today I tried to pull out some Graham Bond but couldn't find it...As said "He left us a legacy of brilliant music. I'd like to add that His voice never got the recognition it should have because of his brilliance on the Bass. Rest in peace Jack, and thanks for all you shared with us.

Saw and met Jack with West Bruce and Laing at Pirates World in Dania,Fl. Lastly I met him at Jazz Alley in Seattle several years and he signed an ad card from the Cream concert in Miami. I was a little kid swimming at our local swimming pool when I heard this incredible music coming from pool entrance. I ran over and listened for the next hour to Cream. The pool manager was impressed that a scrawny ten year old kid was so turned on that he sold me a Fender Bassman amp head for next to nothing. Every time I join a band I make them hear "Spoonful" and say, "we are gonna jam like THAT for the next hour to show them what real musicians play like.

So I listened, sitting, standing, sometimes upside down and often slack-jawed in awe of what we all heard. Yes, I almost always sang along! Played along too, if only in my dreams or on the strings of my air-bass. Jack was perhaps small in stature but a very big and powerful musician for my young and then, my older ear. He was subtle and nuanced, vocally and instrumentally. My favorites? The Pete Brown collaborations were uniquely creative, rythmic and the work of a virtuoso, but most everything he did was at least fun. A rocker, yes, but soooooo much more. My sincere condolences and my prayers to you his family. I never knew him at all but despite that I feel I've just lost someone important. I can only imagine how you feel. Ken Koss

First, my sympathies to the Bruce Family .... Second, Jack was and will always be one of my favorite bass players and vocalists. Absolute genius. I'm So Glad i got to work his show at Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center(The site of the original Woodstock Festival) as he performed with guitarist Godfrey Townsend, drummer Steve Murphy, and keyboardist Manny Foccarazo during Hippy Fest. I am a stahehand there. I will always look back fondly on that show. Third, Cream was a huge influence on me musically, where even as a child, i was awate of them, because of hearing Sunshine of Your Love on the radio all those numerous times. I was 6 or 7 years old. I liked it. Jack's Bass playing style was very unique, and ground breaking. And i loved Hinger's drum dtyle and sound. That is why i am a drummer myself to this day. RIP Jack.

Mr. Bruce's fat and fluid bass playing inspired me to downtune the lowest strings of my cheap electric guitar and try to emulate my hero while listening to the tunes of Cream and West Bruce and Laing. I was so glad when two of my nephews and now my son took up electric bass, the instrument whose sound Jack built. His playing, singing, and composing instilled and deepened my love of music. You, the family and friends, have my most sincere condolences.

A musical giant. A visionary. A man who never sat on his musical laurels. Cream changed rock music like no band, before or since, and remain as the pinnacle. Not content with that, Jack moved on, and on! One of the few, genuine 'greats'. RIP, and let's enjoy his legacy.

Jack was my idol, back when that word meant a lot. After I possessed the basics of bass guitar I bought an EB-3 and learned the essentials of rock by listening to one of its founders. He and Felix were the cream-of-the-crop in that era. Together with his Tony Williams Tribute band members I was brought the closest I could get - eyes at 45 to see every nuance of his playing. He won't be forgotten.

I am very sad to learn of the passing of Jack Bruce. I have been a fan since I got Disraeli Gears in the summer of '69 and probably have bought every record he's made or been involved with since. I was fortunate to see Jack play in concert on three occasions, the last being at Toronto's Massey Hall in 2002 for the Beatles tribute " A walk down Abbey Road". What impressed me was not only did he play a great set of his own material, but also supplied the bass for the other artist's sets as well as songs of the Beatles repertoire. A great musician! He will be missed.

Listening to "Out of the Storm". I first heard it 40 years ago at the tender age of 15 and quickly realised that Cream had barely hinted at what a truly original songwriter Jack was. I went on to discover just how diverse his musical interests and talents were. One of a kind.

Yet I have been a Jack Bruce fan since the 60s, because I'm also an amateur student of the bass, and a bit of a multi-instrumentalist, and Jack Bruce through the years has remained no less than stellar in my eyes, awesome in my soul, and heavenly in my ears. Jack showed me and countless other teens growing up in the 1960's that there were notes on and a way to play the electric bass that we didn't even know existed prior to hearing him play live on the Wheels of Fire Album. I was fortunate enough to have seen him perform five times and consider it a gift from a higher power. I'm sure he knew his legacy and whenever rock'n'roll electric bass is played, Jack is a part of it! Thanks JB for the inspiration for me to keep playing after 45 years....

Jack is my favourite musician. He's my hero and biggest inspiration. His music has changed my life and it was the only thing that made me happy during some rough times. I have been feeling very sad and sick since the terrible news came out... Life will never be the same without him. But now I feel the need to give Jack's family my support and words. His soul and work will live forever, I'm sure.

Jack was a huge inspiration to me and has been a big part of my musical life. I studied his unique style of bass playing and have tried to emulate it over the years. Everyone knows about Cream, but some of my favorite is his work with Robin Trower (BLT). It's timeless, beautiful stuff. I am thankful that I was on this Earth while Jack rocked the 4-string. Jack will live on in my ears and heart.

Cream had an enormous influence on my musical career and Jack Bruce in particular. I loved his writing, playing and singing. After all these years [and to this day] as a very actively performing blues musician at age 68, I continue to find tremendous inspiration from Jacks compositions and performances. The same ones that fed my passion for playing in 1966. Thank you and God bless you, Jack. -Billy The Pocket Barner-

I am deeply saddened at the loss of Mr. Jack Bruce, and offer my humble condolences to his loved ones. As a schoolboy in the 1960's, I was introduced to Mr. Bruce's amazing work, and have been a devoted admirer ever since. The world has lost a great man and a true genius.

Even later, after I went my way, I've always appreciated his work. He's been a master to many pupils, a very fine musician and a stunning performer. Thank you so much Jack, your memory lives on!

What a great loss. Of course, Mr. Bruce was a virtuoso of the electric bass. What I remember most, however, are his musical compositions with EC (Sunshine) and that voice; Haunting, siren-like, always emoting. Just unique and original, like the man. Rest well Sir, your music will go on for a long, long time. Deepest sympathy to family and friends. W. K. in Idaho

Despite a rudimentary understanding of Jack's recent health problems, his death this week is still a shock to the system. I only ever saw Jack play live once - with Tony Williams Lifetime at a rather beer soaked and broken glass decorated Dagenham Roundhouse in the early seventies. I would never have travelled that far across London for a gig unless there was something special at the other end. That something special was Jack Bruce. Sadly, I never got to see him with Cream, but not many people in the UK did, as they performed almost exclusively in the US after their formative months together. The reunion in 2005 was a fascinating and immensely enjoyable event, sadly, too far away by then for me to attend. But I, yet again last night, got out the DVD of the event as my small and private tribute. What really shines through during the concerts, and in the accompanying interviews, is Jack's great sense of humour and total lack of airs and graces. My favourite Jack track is the very moving version of We're Going Wrong recorded at home accompanying himself on the piano. With some minor additional production values, that could have been a monster! As my family will testify, I still regularly listen to both Cream and Jack Bruce solo albums, despite thinking my musical tastes had moved on in the late seventies. The truth is that good music never leaves you, and I now know I shall be still listening to Jack until I too die. Thank you, Jack, and my thoughts are with his wife and children. Irreplaceable. I shall now 'sumbit'?

My condolences to the Bruce family. There will be no replacement for Jack Bruce. His imprint on the rock world is immeasurable. Best rock musician is a subjective acclaim. History will document his talent and footprint on rock -blues-jazz-pyscheldelic music. His contribution immense only surpassed by his musical generosity. Talented and focused , his bass playing and singing have had a huge impact on my life and my family's. Jack is jamming with Jimi .

You made a big impact on me when I was in grade school here in New Jersey & I carried with me today. I can remember naming a Cat (Bruce) after you when I was in High School because it's purring reminded me of your bass line in Keep It Down :-) For the next 10 years of that cat's life here in NJ, most people assumed he was named after Springsteen and I always was quick to correct their assumptions. I had the pleasure of meeting you while on tour here w? JB & Friends at a gig at Ramapo College and I was so speechless while in your presence, but you took the time to ask me my name and where I was from. I was so in awe that I forgot to ask you to sign my cassette cover of Out of the Storm that was in my pocket "just in case". It's OK, that memory is worth it's weight in gold. Thanks Jack for all you gave us, you are and always will be someone I turn to when I need music to brighten my day. Peace Be With You & Kind Regards to All Your Kin.

I was fortunate to see Jack Bruce at the Memorial Auditorium in Burlington, Iowa in 2001 or 2002. He was performing with Todd Rundgren, Allen Parsons, and Mark Farner. He was fantastic. I love his music. He did fall on stage that day. I think he tripped on something on stage. He just smiled and continued his song. I will remember his performance forever. I bought a CD and found out he had signed it. I will cherish it forever.

Playing bass in the early 1970s, he was my idlle! He made bass stand out like no body before him. He wasn't the fastest or the most technically astute. But he had moments of pure genius inspiration, and the courage always to take a chance and explore a new dimension of reality in front of thousands, not knowing how it would turn out. When Jack played, he took us in the journey with him. My heart hurts today. Love you, Jack Bruce!

I listened to Jacks music in high school and followed his music after Cream. His music was a strong influence in my love of music writing. The last messages on Facebook were a delight. I always wished he would sing one song on The Centrifugal Satz Clock but I understood he was a very busy person. One of his great lines from the song 318 sums it all up, though maybe not in the way the song was implying. "I know that some of my parts are at the start of someone else's dream". Thanks for all the great songs Jack.

My memory of seeing Jack play with Cream on my birthday, May 12th 1968 is one of the happiest of my childhood. He was a great influence on me in more ways than mere words can express. I also had the opportunity to take my son to hear him several years ago when he played in Seattle. It was a thrill to hear him play live again. Unlike many, his skills, mastery and artistry had improved over the decades. Jacks musicianship surpassed that of simply a great rock musician. He was the consummate master. I am better for having listened to him for the past 50 years. Thank you.

I will never forget the first time I heard the sound of Cream. For me it was in the 80s since I was born shortly before they disbanded. The overpowering guitars, bass and drums! Amazing!!! Fresh to this day. The first solo album of Jack that I listened to was "A question of time" and the song "Make Love", to be specific. I had no idea what hit me. I was trying to figure out the roots of the sound. At the time I couldn't put it all together. It was too powerful to be pop, it was too soft to be rock and it had a clear influence of the Blues. Little did I know at the time that it was the Bluesbreakers, Cream and Manfred Mann coming out in this unique musical piece. Rest in peace Jack the road you paved will be traveled every day by young musicians in their endless search of quality and us, your fans that will be remembering all the things you got involved with!!!

My mother for Christmas 1968 gave me a copy of "Wheels of Fire" and it was, without a doubt, the most influential moment of my life. I heard Jack play and from then on, studied and played bass for the next 46 years. In 2008, I finally met him and he signed the album Mom gave me. It is my most treasured. Jack's music will live on through the centuries and I am so grateful that I was living in his time on Earth as well. Requiescat in Pace, Jack; I was NINE years old when you, Eric and Ginger literally changed my life. Never before had I heard such wonderful playing - up until then I had actually thought the pinnacle of the bass was Paul McCartney (!) - and then you brought me the bass-centred riff. The sunshine of your love and your unmatched virtuosity has lit up my life ever since. Wherever your spirit goes when your physical body finally runs out of steam, I am certain that you are looking down and overseeing the continued progression of the music you changed forever, but which will never be surpassed. Of course, I only know him through his music, but I hope he was as marvelous as I imagined him to be, he turned the bass from a background 'fill' to a stunning solo instrument, truly amazing! :) My heart goes out to all of his family and friends at this very sad time

Jack Bruce and Cream were a huge influence on the direction I took as a teen learning the electric guitar. As a very young person I can recall people talking about Eric Clapton and Cream while I was in elementary school. Besides the Beatles they were the top band. Cream with Jack Bruce created a huge change in music, a quantum leap from the early sixties electric sound to a wider range of lyrics, sounds, effects, feedback, sustain, etc. Jack went on as a solo artist to work with a very long list of top of the line musicians. So many good tunes, thank you JB

It's with incredible sorrow that I saw Jack's obit in an email from the New York Times, I'm at that age where there is a magnetic attraction to obits particularly those concerning the musical heroes of my own youth and when the Times mentioned the revolutionary, for the time, opening bars to the song Badge which pulled the bass from the almost unnoticed anchor of the rhythm section of a band to a lead soloing instrument in it's own right and from then on cementing Jack's unmistakable style and musical intelligence when be played live or on a recording perhaps challenged only by The Ox (John Entwhistle) of The Who and perhaps Paul McCartney . I'm a singer, now largely choral and sacred (church) music though still pop, blues and rock too. Jack's influence is to be the best I can be, open to various styles and do it well. All my prayers are with Jack's family at this time and thank you Jack for your example and inspiration May rest eternal be granted to you and light and the gift of music shine on you. Thank you Jack.

As a long-time Cream fan, I remember Jack not only for his bass work but for his songwriting and vocal talents. I am also a fan of West, Bruce, and Laing, and I remember his collaboration with Robin Trower as well (BLT). The music world has lost a true icon; as Leslie West introduced him on West Bruce and Laing's "Live 'n' Kickin'," "On bass, the finest in the world: Jack Bruce!"

I first became aware of Jack's singing, playing and writing when I was about 10 in the mid-1970s. First, it was with Cream. That music greatly (and still does) influenced me. I, too, was a cellist who switched to bass. I enjoyed a 25 year career as a classical double bassist, 15 of those years were spent with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. I was also very influenced by Jack's solo records in the 1970s, esp How's Tricks. I had a tape of a concert from the King Bisquet Flower Hour of that tour. I listened to it so much! I never heard a bass player who not only wrote the songs, fronted the band as lead singer and played such cool solos on the bass. Looking back now as an adult, I feel that Cream was such a powerful musically force. And one which very successfully combined several different musical genres together for a very unique, inventive and compelling music. I still listen to it almost everyday. Thank you Jack! May your soul rest in peace! And my thoughts go out to your family.

Jack to the world was an incredible artist, not just a force to be realized as a ground breaker in perfect harmony, but also married blues and jazz with his original riffs and vocals, His music, with Cream, Jack had a blended well with Ginger Baker, as we know Ginger himself demanded perfection, which, "rubbed off" on Eric Clapton. Jack's other works STAND UP on there own. Jack we loved, live in NYC in any band, Blues to Rock, I will miss him. To Jack's loved family, Thank You and Bless you for also helped him create the colors of sound that he played and song. Many younger and future people will find the music, and Jack will Live Forever!

I'm a fourty nine year old bass guitarist. I've been playing since the late Seventies-Blues,Jazz,Classical, etc. In the world of improvised music and creative composition in the Twentieth Century, Jack is a giant and an absolute original. And I believe he is the greatest singing voice to have emerged in the Late Sixties. Those choral overdubs coupled with impassioned soloing -That is Psychedelia purely distilled. With love to all who feel his loss, It's a pleasure knowing he is now adding to the power and beauty of Heaven.

Quite difficult to believe this. Thanks so much Jack for the beautiful music you gave to the world. It really changed my life. Your legacy will remain forever, you were a wonderful songwriter, a great bass player, an amazing singer, and you really had the gift of time. Your work with Cream, as soloist or with Spectrum Road are a proof of that. I steel feel chills everytime I hear We're Going Wrong. And also my mind is blown up when I hear Vuelta Abajo, or any work you did. And Silver Rails is an amazing record, and a very nice way of saying goodbye. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to see you playing, but your music will remain forever in my life. Rest in peace Jack. My thoughts to the family and friends.

The first album I ever bought when I was 14 years old in 1968, was, Disraeli Gears by Cream. Jack's powerful voice and bass playing, along with Eric Clapton's guitar, and Ginger Baker's drums, floored me. To this day, Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience are my two favorite bands. I still have all their original vinyl albums I bought new back then. I'll miss knowing you're here, Jack. We interacted a little bit on Facebook. Rest In Peace buddy. My profound gratitude for the gift of his music... Back in the late 80's, I saw "Jack Bruce & Friends" at the now-gone Bottom Line in NYC. As the show was winding down, Clapton took the stage - first time Cream had gathered together since disbanding. Clapton had apparently been walking his dogs in the neighborhood, saw his old friends up on the marquee, and decided to drop in. One of my most magical Rock 'n Roll experiences. This memory - and his music - lives!

Jack Bruce at Ronnie Scott's, London, March 1st 2010. I was going to be in Europe on business and Jack Bruce is one of my all time favorites. I was able to score a ticket from Ronnie Scott's website, although not in the central premium price area in front of the stage as they were sold out. When I got to the club I checked in with the reservations girl (there are no formal tickets, just a list of paid-up guests) and was asked if I would mind sharing a table with another single ticket guest. Sharing a "table" could only mean she was shifting me to the premium ticket section, so I agreed immediately. What I wasn't ready for was a table right at the lip of the stage and, as I would find out later, right at JB's mike stand! To give you an idea of my proximity, if Jack had have fallen forward he would have done a face plant on my tiny table. Sweet. The music started off with a jazz trio fronted by the house pianist and drummer with a guest bassist. First class musicians just having a bit of a jam session, but fine with me. The stage was then taken over by the Ronnie Scott's Blues Experience, who are the house blues band. I was a bit confused on how this was going to play out, and it was getting towards 10pm at this point (the music started around 8:45) The Blues Experience seemed to have their own bass player, was Jack going to take over or did he have his own band? The Blues Experience ripped through some fantastic road house Chicago style tunes fronted by an amazing guitar player named Tony Remy and backed up by a great horn section (trumpet, trombone, sax). They played for about 45 minutes then announced a short break after which the headliner would perform. During the break, an ageing guitar tech brought out what proved to be JB's axe, a stunning Warwick small bodied fretless 4 string with led markers on the neck. Now the excitement was building. The tech plugged the bass into a massive Hartke rig and quickly disappeared. Showtime! The Blues Experience took the stage once more and introduced Jack Bruce. As he walked across the smallish stage, he looked a bit frail and unsteady (he is 67 after all, and has had 2 liver transplants necessary from the years of heroin abuse) but smiled widely and thanked everybody for coming out for the show as if we were somehow inconvenienced. He strapped on his bass, made a few adjustments, nodded to the drummer, and then walked up to the mike and without any hesitation tore into Otis Spann's "Good morning Mr. Blues". Wow! His voice was strong as ever, his pitch right on, his vibrato perfect, and still has that little growl as he flattens out notes at the end of a phrase. His bass playing was spot on and powerful. Everything I was hoping to see and hear manifested itself in the first tune, and it just got better from there. He followed up with a few blues standards and then took us on a tour of the songs he made famous with Cream. Politician, Born under a bad sign, White Room, Sunshine of your love, I'm so glad, Spoonful, Sitting on top of the world, and a few others. It was almost midnight when he came out for an encore. A totally fantastic evening with one of the most influential musicians of his era. I am so happy that I got the opportunity to not only see one of my hero's of rock, but to see him in such a great intimate setting backed up by a young vibrant band. Five Stars.

A sad loss of a true Rock great. Heart felt sympathy to Margrit and all the Bruce Family. How many of us diligently learned his great songs as kids, which where some of the most influential base lead blues numbers every. Charlie (www.strawberryfieldindia.com)

A huge loss to the music world. I was influenced by Jack and his Cream band mates when I was a young boy growing up in Texas and enjoyed his work thru the years. You will be missed.

I knew this day would come some time. It is as sad as I thought it would be. Empty, cold, gray is how it feels. The passion of his music will sustain me, of course, and there will be other losses, as there were before Jack Bruce passed. He is, by far, my favorite musician. I feel for those who knew him and were used to seeing him every day. For a fan, it is different. The anticipation of new material is gone. The hope for renewed health and vigor is gone. But the meaning he had in my life is there, will always be there until I, too, am no more. Goodbye, Jack, you meant so much to so many; much more than you could possibly know.

I'm 67 years old now, Way back in the late 60s in Greenwich Village, New York, it was Jack Bruce, Who inspired me to become a musician and buy my first bass a Gibson a EB3 just like the one he played. when I heard of his passing I literally had to pull my car over and reflect on what I just heard on the radio and I shed a tear. My heart felt condolences to his family. the world is truly a poorer place without him in it.
