RIP Jack. Thank you for the pleasure you have given me in my life, through you musical talent. Being, 66, I have followed you and your career for most off our lives, and did also enjoy your music, if I may say so, "after the life of CREAM" Some of my fondest memories, were back in 1971, I served with the Aussie Army in Vietnam, and after patrolling the jungle for 6 weeks at a time, what a great relief to have a couple of day off, and try to unwind, with a few beers, and Cream flat out-- with the BASE turned up to MAM-MAX?? Thank's again Jack, my condolences to your family, regards to all Chris. PS Keep them all in tune "upstairs"!!

I recall listening to the first ever released track on the first ever released Cream album in 1966. I was still going to school at the time. And now, almost 50 years later, time is catching up. In the end, we all have to go, but some leave their mark for a long time to come. Jack is one of those and I highly appreciate his willingness to share his music with me. Sad but see you in heaven.

I grew up when getting access to records with Jack - or any rock or jazz artist - was difficult, expensive and, sometimes, risky. That also meant that to me Jack was a legend a long time before he began to be called that. Thank you for your music and so many moments that I will always remember. Thank you.

It is many years since I spoke to Jack but I remember well when we were pupils at Bellahouston Academy in Glasgow. We were in his brother's red open top sports car with Jack & I in the back & his cello between us, on our way to the then St. Andrews Hall where Jack was part of an orchestra. The school song was ' when Bellahouston founders who in an earlier age, built these walls and turrets to be our heritage'. Jack will now be part of our heritage. John C

To Jack and his family. A legend yes but it was how he changed the way that the bass guitar was played and the innovations that he made to the instrument changed music and inspired others to follow in his footsteps. His music was innovative and after Cream he explored so much and his collaborations with so many musicians showed the respect he had from his peers. May he rest in peace and his music go on and on.

With Jack Bruce we lost one of the greatest musical artists, bassists, singers, composers of all time. I followed your musical way since 1963 until today. I had also the chance to see you live in Switzerland, with your own groups, with Tony Williams Lifetime, with Billy Cobham, Allan Holdsworth a.o. at the Montreux Jazz Festival, with Kip Hanrahan at the Zurich Jazzfestival and 3 years ago with your Big Blues Band - every concert an immense Musical pleasure! I am 62, and Cream have always been the foundation of my love of music along with John Mayall, and we all know the link between these two legends. I was never fortunate to see Cream live, but havel listened to their music every week for the past 45 years. The best gig I ever attended was when Jack performed at Ronnie Scott's abot 3 years ago, about the time that Shadows in the Air was released. I went with a work colleague of 40, and one of my sons who was 25. We each came from vastly different times, But each one of us was touched deeply by Jacks charisma, prowess and love of his craft. The way he played " Sunshine" that night was the best ever. And any lad brought up in the sixties can play that riff, but most of us in the privacy of our own homes. Jack I love you man, and am missing you.

Back in the days of Cream, I was a high-schooler that lived and breathed Cream for many months after I first heard them. They came to Fresno in 1968, but I was unable to attend. Was somewhat distraught for many days afterwards. Their music really changed my outlook on music and my life. Jack's songs(with Cream) made a big impact on me and I never got tired of them even after hearing them hundreds of times over the years since. He was unique and he will be missed.

Jack was the genius of Cream; he took Eric and Ginger to heights that they would have never achieved without him. He gave the era of Rock in the 60's a depth and grand scale that would re-define music and etch his name in history. His death was a great shock and the end of an era the he helped to create.

I first heard Jack's inventive tonality, lyrical image-smithing, and soul-massaging vocals on the ATCO release of "Fresh Cream" in 1966, his solo work on "Songs for a Tailor" in 1969, (which I played my whole first year of college at the University of Oregon) , his work with West-Bruce-and-Laing in the 1972-3 period, and his collaborative work with Robin Trower, and others, since.... Every effort of his was stimulating, enlivening, and offers something unique and something common to whomever fought or fights to find it.... past "ugly radio", outside of industry whitelists, outside of commodified "hit lists", beyond guitar-fetishists' falsifications of "Cream", through channels not yet colonized by monopo-media's new forms of the old payola, ad finitum. I shall treasure and feel, as at this very moment, his multifaceted oscillations... forever. My eternal thanks to Jack for embracing his inner sense, for hearing "outside of the norm", for composing, playing, and singing beyond boundaries, and for availing it for us all. Special gratitude to his special family, co-cultivating this world-roaming, heart-lifting Scottish bard. Love always!

As big music fans, my friends and I always regarded Jack as perhaps the greatest of bassists, like so many others did (and still do!). We were huge fans starting in the late '80s in high school. Since then, I have come to know much more of his body of work and realize how expansive and influential it is. He was also, more importantly, he seemed to be a great friend to many. Although he didn't know it, he was our friend, too. I will miss him and have a "Jack Marathon" in our house this week! Love to his family from mine!

Very saddened to hear that Jack has passed away. I switched on to Cream in 1966 at the age of 9, and followed Jack's career closely - "Songs For A Tailor" was a particular inspiration. What a unique talent he had, and he was always true to his musical ideals. RIP Jack.

First saw Jack with the Graham Bond Organisation at Klooks Kleek playing 6-string bass guitar. I have only recently bought a 6-string bass, having been inspired by him at this time. His was the sound I aspired to, but sadly never achieved. I was at the Cream's debut Windsor gig, at the Country Club (Tony Williams Lifetime) and at the 100 Club at the time of the "Things We Like" album (with DHS and Jon Hiseman). A great loss.

Wow, so sad to hear of the loss of "Uncle Jack" (I have jokingly called him this for many years among my friends, since we share the same last name). I first heard of JB as a kid, when I was a huge Cream fan. I later discovered his post-Cream work, and bought albums featuring him with Robin Trower and other collaborators, as well as his solo albums. I saw him play several times: at my college in the late '70s, in the Jack Bruce Band in 1989 at NYC's Bottom Line, and at one of the Cream reunion shows at Madison Square Garden nearly a decade ago (which was amazing). Ironically, I learned of Jack's death the morning after attending a concert by the Allman Brothers Band, who on another occasion I saw them covered "Politician." (They also covered this tune at a concert they played after Jack's death, as a tribute to him). I'm sure he had more music to make, so it's very sad that he's gone. But I hope the publicity surrounding his passing will help make his large body of work known to more people. Rest in peace, "Uncle Jack."

Spring of '68 I switched from 6 string to a '63 P bass I found in a Detroit pawn shop...because the band needed a bass player and I wanted to get out on the road... listened to you incessantly...learned how to hit the bottom and then put the "cream" on the top...bless you my brother... RIP and thank you...

As a young musician growing up in Scotland in the 60's, Jack was probably the key inspiration for me and my other musician friends in all that we tried to do once we had heard Cream. As young Scotsmen growing up Edinburgh, the fact that Jack was also a Scot made us believe we could try to aspire to his level of achievement. A band I was in actually supported Tony Williams' Lifetime that Jack was a member of when they played the Maryland Club in Glasgow in 1970 or 71' (I can't quite recall). All his Glasgow relations - Mum and Dad etc were there, seated at the front. My old friends and I sadly mourn the loss of a great person and I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to his family on their loss. Since this early days, he has always been part of my 'mental furniture' and will always remain there and bring joy, a smile and a yelp of affirmation! Yes, Jack!

Jack Bruce introduced me to the bass. As a music fan, guitar is what my ears focussed on until I first heard "I Feel Free". Jack diverted my focus to the bass guitar, as I'm sure he did for others. His vocals as strong and powerful as his lyrics. All power trios owe their music and excitement to Jack. Thank you Jack for stimulating my love of music.

Still in my early adolescense when my older brother brought to our parents home a copy of the timeless Songs For a Taylor and I got hooked immediately to Jack's music and still is to this very day. My sincere condolences to Jack's family in difficult times. His reputation and music will live on as says in the The Poetic Edda: 76. Cattle die and kinsmen die, thyself too soon must die, but one thing never, I ween, will die, fair fame of one who has earned. 77. Cattle die and kinsmen die, thyself too soon must die, but one thing never, I ween, will die, the doom on each one dead.

Jack's lyrical improvisations as a member of Cream opened my ears to listen beyond the lead guitar. His bass lines for Cream compositions, such as Sunshine of Your Love, created hooks so memorable that they will live forever. His ability to play at a high level while singing has never been surpassed by any other bass player, including Geddy Lee and Sting. I'm so sorry we've lost him!

It is with great sadness that I recently learned of the passing of Jack Bruce. I am a great fan of Cream and grew up listening to their albums. He was such a virtuoso bassist and superb songwriter that it is hard to imagine the music world without him. I never got to attend a Cream concert when I was young, so I was overjoyed to learn of their reunion concerts in New York City in 2004. Cream played a great concert on June 30, 2004 which I was able to attend with my wife and two children. It was thrilling to hear them live after having listened to them only on recordings! Jack Bruce was a rare talent both as an instrumentalist and songwriter who left and indelible mark with his work. Thank you so much for the gift of your music. RIP.

My Dad put music in my blood, but Jack Bruce put the bass in my hand!! Jack opened my mind to music thru his music. My taste in rock, jazz, folk, blues, fusion and avant garde expanded when I began to listen to Cream, the bands he was involved with either as a sidesman or otherwise and especially his solo albums!! No other musician has ever made such an impact in my life as Jack has!! I began to follow him in 1986 where he was in his early 40's and I have seen him mostly in NY, but in Germany and England as well. I've seen him in as many different band situations as he made himself available to be in and was blessed enough to see him with Gary Moore, Ginger Baker, Dick Heckstall Smith, Bernie Worrel, Ringo Starr, Vernon Reid, Cindy Blackman, Eric Clapton and so on. I was also blessed enough to have met and spend time with him as well and found him to be a true gentleman and great kidder. Jack Bruce was and IS a true, great inspiration musically and truly one of the greatest vocalists of all time!! There will never be another one quite like him!! The void he leaves behind in my musical soul will never be filled and shall truly be missed, but I am thankful for his tremendous body of work he leaves behind thru his musical legacy. It's with a heavy heart that I share my most heartfelt condolensces to the Bruce family. A true legend!! Good bye and thank you Jack Bruce for many lessons learned!!

Dear Bruce family, I would like to take a few moments and say how sorry I am for the loss of Jack. I never had the opportunity to see either Cream, or Jack as a solo artist. Growing up in New York city his music was a staple on NYC radio stations.I am a big fan of Jack's music and recently bought a copy of Silver Rails deluxe edition, his latest work. Jack's music meant so much to me growing up, I'm 50 and have been lstening to him for over 30 plus years. I will always cherish the music and bass playing of Jack. A true gift and blessing he has given to us. May he rest in peace, God bless. sincerely, Gregory Primavera

First heard Cream on a stoop in the Bronx, N.Y. out of an AM radio "Sunshine of Your Love". Changed how I felt about music; it said more then the Do Wah Diddy songs of the time. For Christmas that year I wanted the Cream album, my mother got me Fresh Cream, which taught me to read the authors of the songs and opened the treasure of American Blues to me. I would own Live Vol. I & II before I bought Good-bye. Only got to see Jack play once was Nov.5 1974, my 20th birthday, at Radio City Music Hall in West, Bruce and Laing. Remember Why Dontcha blasting as the band slowly raised to stage level. So I'll be playing that at midnight (when the show started). I'll be playing a lot of Jack for my birthday. I do like his last studio album ends with No Surrender.

Dear family of Jack Bruce it is the first time for me to write something in english with a contents of condolence I am sorry maybe for my bad english It is a hard time for us all because a man is gone passed away who was more as only a musician He has given us all something to live some feelings some love with his music I was a very young boy as my brother heared day by day Cream and I grow up with that sound Great Britain is full with musicians but there are only a handfull persons who give us more as music As Cream was broken, my heart was broken because my way of thinking about a music family was destroyed and I was sad and watch them in all what they have done from that time Eric Ginger and Jack Eric is for me like my older brother Jack like my father Ginger like my uncle As I lost my saxaphone player he was only 37 and for 3 years my drumer he was only 47 years I don t know where I have to go or what to do I felt at that time that there was so much what I wanna say and play with them. Today I am 47 and I have begun to play guitar with 8 My biggest fear was everytime what will I do if Jack Ginger or Eric will go. Today I have to think and learn that we all have to go some day. He will allways live in me and in millions of people. And what a day if a boy or a girl will some day standing in a record shop find a record of Cream and say Oh what a great group I whish you all the best and I hope that we all will play, so long as our life goes on If we don t play together in this life on earth maybe we play all some day for a while in heaven I Thank you for all in peace and harmony Andreas Germany Berlin

At the begining of the 70th I found "Harmony Row" between the LPs of my older brother. Since that time I am a big fan of Jack Bruce's music, his voice. Several times I went to concerts with him. And today I am 55 years old and I still love to listen to him. Sabine Meyer

rip the great Jack Bruce. Before Jack's illness in 2003 he had released the album "Shadows In The Air" which was extraordinary. Then "More Jack Than God" came out and it was equally great. Of course Jack was the bass player's bass player. But he was also so talented on keyboards cello harp etc. As great an instrumentalist as he IS (because he lives on) it is his VOCALS that blow the roof off. No one sings like him. Jack was so much more than Cream. I truly hope more people get into his beautiful solo albums from "Songs For A tailor" "Harmony Row" and on and on. His work with Kip Hanrahan showed such an incredible range in his singing. Jack is the man: rock jazz blues classical. He can show the angels how to REALLY sing now. thoughts to Margrit his children and grandchild.

I feel utter sadness that you've left us Jack, I'm comforted in the fact that I was honoured & overjoyed to see you play last year, firstly at Warrington with my girlfriend & later that year in Newcastle with my dad, who introduced me to your music at a very early age. It was the first time my dad had seen you too having been his hero for 50odd years! Thank you for all the amazing times, your legend will go on forever! Farewell but not goodbye Love Paul, Bev & Steve xxx

My deepest condolences to the Bruce family. Jack was an inspiration to a teenager learning to play guitar and eventually playing bass in a band. And when I did I dreamt I was him. My condolences to Jack's family and friends. He ranks very high among the most under-recognized geniuses of modern music, overshadowed by his Cream-mates yet responsible for most of their songs and the amazing lead vocals. I'll never forget the day I heard I Feel Free blasting our of a little record store in January of 1967, when I was 14 ... blew my mind! And I was lucky to see Cream that spring, on their first US tour, at Murray the K's music revue at the RKO theater on 58th St. in NYC. The list of great JB songs and performances is long, topped IMO by Harmony Row, Songs for a Tailor, Out of the Storm, Things We Like, and Jack's collaborations with Kip Hanrahan (i.e., Verticals Currency, Desire Develops an Edge). You've brought me great joy, Jack, and will continue to ... thank you for your brilliant and uncompromising music and deeply affecting voice!

THE SONG "TALES OF BRAVE ULYSSES" HAS, SINCE I WAS 12 YEARS OLD (I an now 60 yrs old), ON THE album "Disraeli Gears" SORT OF WAS AND IS AND WILL ALLWAYZ BE ABOUT JACK'S LIFE AND WAYZ AS A MUSICIAN-ARTist. With a YouTube video search for CREAM "TALES OF BRAVE ULYSSES" you all can still see him live in "THE CREAM" HAY DAY of The1960's with Eric Clapton and our beloved Ginger Baker. The Kinks "Ray Davies" made a song named "Celluloid Hero's Never Really Die" The Love Jack Bruce gave the world will live on and on and on in the hearts and soul of million's of people. I send my love to all that loved him in his daily life and all that loved his music and guidance. Still I know in my heart that as he has reached The After Life, his love shines down to us all wishing that, even though we mourn his lose in this realm,he is wishing that we all celebrate and share The coming Holiday Season and approaching Christmas Season, with all the Joy that our mortal hearts and soul's can muster. I send this Greeting With Love and Warmest Regards to All that He Loved and All that Loved and Still Love Him ,From Douglas Earl Andrews 2716 USA RSVP TO ME at THECAFEDEDE at AOL.COM if you wish P.S. I am a Hand Drummer playing La Segunda Congas drop tuned to a"C or D" on the Major scale,I love playing along to Cream's music still like I am a session musician absorbing Jack's base guitar as a drum teacher leader and also adding my own touch to the band. That was ""The Thing"" about Jack in the 1960's He played Bass Guitar as the lead instrument

Cream were my favourite band as a teenager and have remained so to this day. Cream by name, the Cream by nature. Jack, Ginger and Eric were each the best in their chosen specialism. We will never see their like again. Jack's combination of bass playing, vocals, harmonica and song writing has no equal. I'm devastated to hear of his passing. I was lucky enough to see Cream play the RAH on the 3rd of May 2005. It is without doubt the standout moment from all the concerts I have seen. The improvised jam at the end of Sunshine of your Love gave a flavour of what it must have been like to see them in all their pomp at the height of their career. Jack, you will always be sitting on the top of the world. God bless you and Goodbye
