I have aways loved and admired Jack's music, ever since I first learned of him in the early '70s. So much talent as a writer, instrumentalist, and vocalist. While I love Sunshine and White Room and all the rest of the Cream catalog (for which most of the credit goes to Jack as the main writer), for me Ships in the Night is really maybe his greatest. He also, quite evidently, a humorous and highly intelligent man, as was clear from his interviews. So happy to have seen Cream at MSG in 2005. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the Bruce family. He will be missed but his music will live on and continue to amaze, move, and impress us. Truly, a once-in-a-generation talent.

Jack Bruce changed my entire life. Cream was the singular moment that made my being. Friends and I argued who was singing because we had radios, not internet. We were high school kids playing music and then Cream hit us. We played their music and got kicked out of high school. I imagine.............Grosse Pointe High School. Whacky conservative boys playing psychie music! Just like Jack we got kicked out of school and cello. RIP Jack. You had the best vocals, the damned best bass and a legend just for fun. God we shall miss you pal. Rock on. Ken Powell 973-839-3120

On November 3rd 1968 I saw the Cream at Madison Square Garden, I was 15 years old and this was my first concert. My life was changed in 1964 when The Beatles came to America, I like every other teen bought a guitar, but after seeing the Cream I KNEW what I wanted to do with it! Thank You and God Bless!

Jack Bruce was the single greatest influence on my life as a musician. When we lost him a week ago, the world lost the person Roger Waters called "probably the most musically gifted bass player who's ever been." But he was much more than a bass player. More than anyone else (even everyone else combined) Jack Bruce influenced my bass playing, singing, songwriting and overall musicianship. His technique and tone in both bass and vocal added up to an overall POWER that, for me, was unmatched. There was no one else and I loved him very much. I'd been playing for 13 years when I first heard the Live Cream version of "NSU" in 1991 and it changed my life. Through the prism of his playing I was finally able to discover my voice on bass and clearly understand the oneness of the jam. When I began experimenting with fretless bass shortly thereafter, it was assumed by fellow players that it was because of Jaco Pastorius. But it was because of Jack. On my first CD, I included solo sections with only one or two chords, so as to be conducive to stretching out, a la live Cream. When asked about my fantasy concerts around this same time, I stated that a Cream reunion would be at the top, "but that'll never happen." And then it did, on October 24, 2005, at Madison Square Garden in New York. Unbelievable. Jack Bruce was a monumental figure who lit a new path for so many of us, and in doing so, cut a swath so wide if was virtually impossible not to fall in. He took us into unchartered territory until the end with a wonderfully fresh album made during the final year of his life. He may be gone, but the music and the POWER live on.

Jack was more than a talented musician, he was the consummate musician. He was able to create new genres without succumbing to the confines of any pre-existing expectations. As a composer, bassist and vocalist his range was monumental. His frequent collaborations with Tony Williams helped create new perceptions of what it meant to play 'jazz' or indeed 'rock'. His work with Dick Heckstall-Smith and Jon Hiseman showcased Jack's double-bass playing at it's very finest. The instrument too often restrained to a quite walk, sprung to a kind of electric life in Jack's hands. Jack's own jazz-fusion band with Bill Cobham, Clem Clempson, and David Sancious was simply sublime. Jack's composition Bird Alone is in many ways the pinnacle of virtuosity meeting unbridled passion. When it comes to song based composition, the album Out of The Storm has all the hauntingly beautiful, surreal and emotionally compelling qualities one longs for in music. The complex arrangements are delivered with a delicacy that is nonetheless deeply involving. The track 'Without A Word' from the 'How's Tricks' album remains a song that's difficult to listen to with dry eyes and now that Jack's gone this effect is all the more magnified. Whether melancholic, humorous or incandescent, there is a sincerity in all of Jack's music from traditional blues to classically inspired progressive rock to the frontiers of modern jazz. Having grown up with Jack's music, his death saddened me greatly. Jack's creative abilities never seemed to run short and I'm sure that when the world lost Jack, we also lost many more years of music. Before I moved to the 'behind the scenes' division of the music industry, I remember my last proper gig as a drummer. The final song I played was 'White Room'. I remember it like it was yesterday. As a kid, when others that Beatles and Stones covers was the thing to do, I was always the one saying, "No, I want to play Cream". And for a while I suppose that's what I did. I offer my deepest sympathy to Jack's beautiful family and to all of his friends and musical collaborators who have been part of Jack's long musical journey. "Tomorrow's train Has closed it's doors Without a word Without a word" RIP Jack Bruce

SONG by: Christina Rossetti (1830-1894) WHEN I am dead, my dearest, Sing no sad songs for me; Plant thou no roses at my head, Nor shady cypress tree: Be the green grass above me With showers and dewdrops wet; And if thou wilt, remember, And if thou wilt, forget. I shall not see the shadows, I shall not feel the rain; I shall not hear the nightingale Sing on, as if in pain; And dreaming through the twilight That doth not rise nor set, Haply I may remember, And haply may forget. "Song" is reprinted from Goblin Market and other Poems. Christina Rosetti. Cambridge: Macmillan, 1862.

Jack's passion for his music and his masterful proficiency on his instruments inspired me, as a bassist and as a vocalist, from the 1960s until his recent passing. He was so important to my musical formation that over the long years, I made sure to attend most of his performances in the NY area. And when Cream announced the 2005 re-union shows at Albert Hall, I flew over from the US to attend - I just couldn't miss that opportunity to see him, Eric and Ginger play together again. (I sat just behind Jack's amplifier.) Maestro: I will miss you mightily! Thank you for being there for us for so long. There will never be another you!

I was a kid growing up in Austin, Texas when I picked up the single of "Sunshine Of Your Love. SWLABR". I was late coming to the party, the first album I then got was "Goodbye" and Cream was done. But the songs and the emphasis on the instrumental side of music captured me, I begged my parents for a bass, and so began a journey that continues to this day. I followed Jack's career to the end, always inspired by his creativity and tenacity. The Cream reunion was a bonus, I'm glad they were able to find a way to share the stage again. RIP Jack, glad we knew ye.

It was sometime in the 80s, when I was just a teenager, that I got impressed with the music of Jack Bruce. I have been a great fan ever since. He really was a wonder what he could accomplish with his music and his ability to play and perform. While I loved Cream, and he seemed to embrace the whole "Jack Bruce from Cream" bit, he was so much more than that. Few in the music business come close to what he was able to do.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jack on a couple of occasions through friends, and felt in awe of this man who had provided us with such wonderful music.... Cream in particular were very much a part of my memories of youth... The last time I met him was at a gig in Cambridge, with the same friends and his wonderful family...and he proved that he was still a musical force to be reckoned with. His legacy lives on the the beautiful music of his daughter. Gone but not forgotten...

Jack, you will be greatly missed, and I am sending along my condolences to your family in this message. I have written in your guestbook in the past, and we had recently corresponded through facebook. I am a blues singer and harmonica player, I started playing harmonica in 1969, after I heard you do Traintime on Wheels of Fire. I have followed you from the Graham Bond days, Cream, and your solo career. I always felt a chill when you sang, as it was such a powerful and distinctive voice, perfectly suited for the blues. From interviews I have seen I know you were a kind and gentle person, and not egotistical like many rock stars became. It was all about the music, and I promise you I will do my part in keeping your memory and music alive as long as I have enough breath to sing and play the harp. RIP Jack, from Bluesman Ron

i was truly saddened to hear of Mr. Bruce's passing. I had just purchased his final album and absolutely loved it as with all of his body of work. The best bass player ever. A man who will be always remembered. Followed his web page and enjoyed his posts. he played his heart out and it showed and had a voice that showed show much emotion. God bless you Jack! My condolences to his fellow musicians and of course to his loving family. He had class. Something that is sadly lacking in today's musical spectrum. Long live Jack and his music. Hope someday a full retrospective of all of his music! Thank you.

In Memory of Jack Bruce. ...If ever there was a reason for being rejoiceful as a want to be musician it can come in any number of ways but as I was starting out in the early days listening to Cream on the two live albums they released in the late 60's early 70's I knew with out a flicker of a doubt that I held a similar spirit to Jack Bruce at least in the power and image that I perceived of him. That's how I want to play and be creative too...ah but alas Jack is Jack and I am but a lowly want to be. Jack came from a different place and time, the fact that he was a Scot helped to connect me to him because of my Scottish Heritage, he inspired me to be what I have become in music and a soul happy with what I have done and am doing today. I haven't any Jazz influence, never went there musically but I could feel the tension in the music and Jacks mix of Jazz, Blues and then what became Rock took it all to a whole other level. The fact that he played a Gibson EB3 short scale and through Marshall amps gave the impression he was a Lead Bassist...and that was cool because he backed it up with such skill and soul it appeared at times he just might take flight and indeed he did. He flew! There are few images the get burned into your mind as those of inspiring nature...and everyone of them is etched in the depths of our being forever...it is with regret that I never got to see Jack perform live...he had been to Seattle many times and I wish I had had the ability to experience him up close, him playing on stage. A very dear friend, Tom Bukowski was as inspirational to me...like myself Tom also was an admiring fan and Bass guitarist fan of Jack. Tom and I both understood how valuable Jack was to our essence in Rock and Blues. I will not digress any further but to end this saying that only in life can you come to understand the importance of those who are around you...those who touch you soul on so many levels, good bad or indifferent. The most important thing though is understanding that though the living die...their spirit lives on forever and to that I say this Jack Bruce, your life and legend is still alive though you have gone to the better place...and I will continue to share what you shared with me unto eternity...energy and hope, melody and electric Thunder...like the man and soul you were and the Bassist and songwriter we admired...Thank you with no end.

Jack Bruce. You and cream are the reason why i decided to pick up the guitar and dedicate my life to rock n roll music. When i was 13, I was driving home from hockey practice with my parents when i heard the song "white room." It floored me. I'd never heard anything so raw, so psychadelic, so beautiful! That sound changed my life forever. Your passing makes me very sad, but when one door closes, another opens. My band "ivy stone" plan on keeping your great music alive for many years to come. I met Jack at the (then) Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama after he played bass and sang, as did his daughter Natascha. Clem and Gary supported. It was so easy to speak to Jack; such stature and pedigree would normally be intimidating. Not at all. Jack was so happy that evening, so proud of his daughter, and his return to Glasgow with such fine musicians.

Like an actor playing a part, I have had to play the role of Jack Bruce countless times over the years in my journey as a Bassist. From covering Cream songs in bar bands, to thousands of jams, it meant learning to think like Jack, feel the music like him, and develop the same kind of adventurous instinct that he had on Electric Bass. There was no other way to do justice to the songs of Cream. If you were performing them, you had to get it right. It was the 20 minute live version of "Spoonful" on the Wheels Of Fire album that served as a primer for me when I first started playing. Trying to cut both Eric's and Jack's parts unlocked the secrets of the neck on both guitar and bass. It was the first time I started to understand Pentatonic melody patterns, how to play against polyrhythms coming from the drummer, how to weave bass lines around guitar solos.... Jack Bruce basically taught me how to jam. I wish I could have met him, so I could have told him this, but I'm glad that I at least got to see him twice, with Ringo Star at Westbury. The second time, I was front row, directly in front of him, and so close, that I could have reached up and turned up the volume on his bass... I was so psyched to be sitting two feet in front of the man who was the voice and the bass of Cream, and the author of so many great songs...and who lived in my imagination and on my albums for so many years, that I almost forgot that The Beatles' drummer was standing next to him ! My grin was from ear to ear, and it was a show I will never forget... I'll miss Jack Bruce alot...but he'll always be close through his music, which lives on.... RIP and God Speed, Jack...and Thank You for a lifetime of inspiration...

I had the honour to spend a week with Jack while we were playing with Uli Jon Roth on Symphonic Rock for Europe at the International Guitar Festival back in 1993. He was so much fun to be around and gave me so many words of his musical wisdom and encouragement. A real inspiration still to this day. I was so saddened to hear of your passing Jack, but you'll never be forgotten and I still have my pride and joy - a poster from the Forum in Liege with my name next to yours, the great Jack Bruce.

Jack's soaring voice, his unique piano style, churning cello, and beautiful bold bass lines, along with Pete Brown's sublime lyrics, have been an inspiration for me, my whole adult life. I loved his solo work much more than Cream. His music will remain a great spiritual treasure in my heart, for the rest of my days. I wish I could have met him, to thank him personally. Rest well, JB.

A tremendously talented musician. I first saw Jack at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit in June, 1968, when he was with Cream. I also shook Jack's hand once, after he played a concert at Michigan State University in 1972, when he was with West, Bruce and Laing. He will be missed.

I am a writer and philosopher from Argentina. Mr. Bruce has been a constant companion as I write, and constant source of inspiration and reflection. His spirit, subtle and bright, speaks in his art with a beauty and strength capable of liberating other imaginations and other dreams. That's "give life". Thanks for giving life to a lot of what I've thought, dreamed and written.

I was mayby 10 yrs. old at the end of the 70ies, rehearsing on my drums every day in Sa lzburg, Austria, and was a fan of the Beatles. One Day, the father of a friend invltes me to Creams Live Album, and it changed everything in understanding Rock Music because, that a Song isnt limited to a strict arrangement. I didnt understood the long freeform parts of the solos, but later! For thus lessons i wanna thank Mr.Jack Bruce! May he rock in peace!

We all know Jack was a fantastic singer, songwriter & musician, I had the good fortune to see him perform at Leeds Irish Centre, with Blues Saraceno & Gary Husband, amazing performance. strange crowd stayed mostly sat at tables. I had my 35mm camera with me (remember them, with a film, and just 36 shots a go!) & took a few shots front stage, still have them. Jack seemed to take delight in running to the over end of the stage as I lined a shot up - he had a grin on his face that wouldn't have been out of place on a wee Leprechuan, wonderful memory.

Jack has been a constant companion from 1968 when I discovered Disraeli Gears. From then on, his songs and playing have been with me from Wheels of Fire, the Farewell Tour and on. I really admired "More Jack than God" and other recent releases. I'm not sure what is more amazing and essential to me - his singing or his playing. He is really the only rocker who could have written and performed "As You Said". I have been feeling his loss very acutely. Alas, goodbye Jack.

When Cream first hit my ears in the mid sixties my musical life was forever altered. My friends were all giddy over Clapton's guitar playing but it was always Jack's group to me. That voice, song writing and Bass playing won me over immediately. Jack's solo career output also weighed heavy upon me. Songs for a Taylor and Harmony Row are particular favorites that never seem to get old and remain timeless. Thanks for that Jack... I don't have many hero's ... but you are certainly one of mine.

It's been a long time since I heard you in Cream, and what I got up to in the intervening 40+ years meant that I missed most of what you did (my bad!). I love Silver Rails! Such class! Listening to it means that I can pick out the very formidable bass line (nicely done!). I then treated myself to 3 more of your albums. Many thanks for all the great music. PK

Jack Bruce broke new ground in both the sound and role of the bass guitar in rock music. And his voice was as unique and pleasant as his bass playing. A good friend of mine (also named Jack) who has also since passed away, met him after a show in Atlantic City, NJ. Both my friend I are guitarists, who admired Jack greatly. My friend reported back to me That Mr. Bruce was a humble gentleman, who engaged him in polite conversation. Jack's music influenced me greatly, and as a musician, his imprint on me is indelible. God grant Jack Bruce peace and rest. I'm very sorry for your loss. In many ways the loss is shared by millions.

I met Jack Bruce when he walked into the music store where I worked around 1989. A quite amiable gentleman, he played the opening chords to "As You Said" and bought the guitar. When I told him I had met Ginger Baker at a drummers workshop a year earlier he said "Oh, you've met my big brother." His playing and especially his singing remains an inspiration.

I first heard "Disraleli Gears" on a KLH stereo sitting on a metal table in a large empty room of the Duluth, Minnesota's "No Hassle Castle." I was 14 years old and knew the sound on that record was something to which I must pay attention. The bass control on the stereo was set to maximum and I was fascinated by what the bass player was doing. When I learned it was a three piece group, WOW. Jack Bruce turned the bass into a lead instrument and I still remember the power of his art in my teenage brain.

In the late 60s I was playing bass and harmonica and singing lead in a Midwest Blues-Rock power trio known as OX. We were heavily influenced by Cream, in fact I started playing harmonica on a rack and bass at the same time because my friend Milwaukee Jeff told me that that's what Jack Bruce did. When I met Jack years later and told him that, he told me that he'd only done it for a short time because Cream was so loud they could never hear the harmonica! In the late-70s through the 80s I was fortunate to tour and record with Blues Legend Johnny Winter. In 1986 Johnny headlined a tour of Germany and The Jack Bruce Band was Special Guest, so I got to know Jack. When that tour ended, I stayed over in Frankfurt for the Musik Messe, and I ran into Jack there. He was demonstrating basses at the Warwick booth and he invited me to come and jam with him. I had just signed with Hohner, so I ran over to their booth, grabbed a couple extra harmonicas, and rushed back over to Warwick where Jack and I became a "Power Duo"; he played bass and sang, and I played harmonica and sang! Later that day I saw Leslie West, and I mentioned that I'd seen Jack ... he didn't know Jack was there. The next day I caught them jamming together at the DiMarzio booth! A bunch of us got up to jam that evening at a Musik Messe party at a local club. I wound up playing guitar and singing with Jack on bass, Seymour Duncan on guitar, and a very competent German drummer(?). After we played some Blues, I asked Jack if we could do "I Feel Free." He said, "I don't know, Jon, that's a tricky one." I said, "I was practicing it last night in my hotel room!" ... and off we went, I got to sing with Jack Bruce, and Seymour nailed Clapton's solo! Fast forward to 1989, Jack had just released the classic album "A Question of Time." So when he played the Bottom Line in New York, I had to go down to say "Hello" and tell him how much I dug the new record. I asked him if he was performing the Willie Dixon tune "Blues You Can't Lose," and if he played harmonica on it live. He told me he'd usually start the song with the harmonica, then he'd put it down and pick up the bass. In the middle of his set that night he called out "Is there a Jon Paris in the audience?!" I got up with him for "Blues You Can't Lose" complete with a "dueling harps" intro. I found out later that the gig was being filmed for major release in Japan, and it struck me that so many other musicians might have said "Hey, we'd love to have you sit in tonight, but we're filming." But Jack got me right up! About two weeks later I was visiting my family in Milwaukee, I opened the local paper and I saw TONIGHT! THE JACK BRUCE BAND! When I told my mother I planned to go, she said, "Jack Bruce, isn't he one of your idols? I just baked some cookies, why don't you take some for the band?" When Jack saw me at the club, he brought me up for "Blues You Can't Lose" again! After the gig I went out to the bus to thank him, and to give him a program that I had saved from Cream's 1968 appearance at Milwaukee's Scene Club, and to deliver my mom's cookies. When I offered him the program, he shot back, "I'm not into memorabilia." So I quickly handed him the box of cookies and told him "Well, my mom baked cookies for you guys." Jack lit up, "Oh, well, thanks, we're into cookies!" The last time I saw Jack was at B. B. King's in New York City. He was gigging with Godfrey Townsend, Steve Murphy, and Bernie Worrell. A great line-up, and he invited me up to play harmonica on their encore, "Spoonful!" R.I.P. JACK BRUCE, many thanks for your music, your inspiration, and your hospitality ... we will surely miss you... www.jonparis.com

The moment I heard "Sunshine Of Your Love" on the radio back in '67 I knew that I would never enjoy a song better than this masterpiece! And so began my love of Jack Bruce's music. I had the great fortune of witnessing Jack perform nine times with each concert in a different musical combo, including the breath taking May 2nd 2005 Cream show at the RAH. Us fans are so fortunate that Jack left us with so many beautiful songs and memorable albums, including his grand finale - Silver Rails. R.I.P. Jack . . . your dearly missed!

I started playing base guitar around 1969 and one of my biggest influences was Jack. Not only did I model my playing after him but I also sang in the bands. He will definitely be missed by all of us who grew up hearing those base lines and the bluesy vocals

My condolences to the Bruce Family. From Cream to West Bruce & Laing, to Jacks solo stuff and his work with Robin Trower, just to name a few; is this amazing voice that defines the greatest of all the singers, let alone his bass technique. This is the best of the best. Jack may have moved on to a higher plane, but he left behind a precious gift for all of us to enjoy and to remember him by. He will live on in the hearts of music listeners for many generations to come! RIP Jack Bruce! Thanks for all the great tunes! God Bless!

I had the pleasure of interviewing Jack for Pennyblackmusic magazine when Silver Rails was released. I had always been a huge fan of his music, but had never spoken to him by phone or in person. He spent the majority of our time talking about the appreciation he felt for his family and colleagues. Jack was a talented and, clearly, very generous person. He treasured his friends and family and used his celebrity to mentor and create positive changes in the world. His music was incredible and loved by people of all ages. Teaching and reaching out was important to him--his videos were heartfelt and full of fascinating techniques. Although this is a sad time for all of us, I know we will keep Jack's spirit alive by listening to his wonderful music and celebrating his enthusiasm for life. He was truly one of a million. Our lives were enhanced by his kindness. Peace and love to his friends and family. Lisa

Jack Bruce helped me decide to be a musician. Although I play guitar, I listened to cream at a young age and it gave me the drive to play their songs and play music in general. He was absolutely brilliant with his bass solos and his voice matched the music perfectly. Jack Bruce meant a lot to me as a musical influence and he will be missed.

Jack was a great inspiration with different influences in his music. Much of the music I like bridges the gap between different styles - jazz, rock, blues, classical, Latin etc. Jack could handle keeping things simple and playing what was appropriate whilst having the technical ability to introduce different articulations and variation where necessary and improvise. A great musician and composer who will be sadly missed. So long Jack!

One day in 1967 (at 13 years of age) a kid I knew told me I HAD to come over! The urgency was clear even then - - and the minute I arrived he fired up his record player and I heard the thunderous sound of Cream (Fresh Cream to be exact) for the first time. It is no overstatement to say that it was a completely galvanizing moment in every way as it instantly and permanently altered and intensified the way that I heard, understood and appreciated music. From that point on I had to learn more, listen more, research more! That desire and intensity also transferred itself to the way I approach everything else in life that interests me. A thousand thanks to Jack for being such an integral part of my watershed moment! His independence and fearless creativity still inspire me today. I often think of Jack and Thelonious Monk in the same breath when it comes to that! My deepest condolences go out to Jack's family in the days to come.....

You knew when you heard Cream that Jack had the gift. His vocals and his bass were something that people wished they could emulate, and somehow no matter how hard they tried, they just never hit the mark. He'll never be equaled. He was the one and only. Only George Harrison and John Lennon made me cry with news of their passing.. but guess what, Jack ...you're on the list now. God Bless.

Cream was my introduction to blues and nobody did it like them. Jack's voice reverberated with people's soul and his bass playing was both unique and technically brilliant. Almost 40 years later (for me) and I still have a lot of those songs running around in my head. His playing got better with age as did his voice. I would have loved to played music with Jack it would have been a blast! Always remembered - he has a permanent spot in my brain!

There is a moment in my life that forever changed the way I perceived music. The opening a capella notes to "I Feel Free" are forever ingrained on my musical subconscious. And then when Jack starts crooning I realized I had discovered something very special. From that very early taste, through Cream to my first West. Bruce & Laing show, and right up until I last saw him just a few years ago, there was never a letdown. When it was time to take my young 9 year old son to his first rock concert, Jack was there, playing with Ringo's All-Starr Band. Ian sat and listened for the first time to Jack sing "Theme For An Imaginary Western", and said it was the coolest thing he'd ever heard. Then when the inevitable "White Room" came around, he was up dancing in the aisles. Thanks Jack, for being a part of both of our lives, and for sharing your music, and incredible voice. I regret never being able to hug you in person. Michael and Ian Kronk

My condolences to Jack's family. It's quite a loss to all his fans. His adventuress spirit lifted his music out of the routine, and was an experience that broadened our musical palette. And,my friend Hugh Flint ,who knew Jack as a brief member of the Bluesbreakers, remarked that he was a nice man too. It only reinforced my feelings about our one time, split second connection after a Cream concert in Lowell,MA. There was a joy that emanated from him that was palpable. I wanted to meet him during the tour he did with Ginger and Blues Saraceno, but was unable to. And by the time Charlie Watts Big Band came to Boston,Jack had moved on.So I cherish the brief moment when we intersected. He was a good and decent man,who inspired many and left a legacy that will never die.Bless you Jack.

When I first heard Jack, I was a drummer. That was when Sunshine Of Your Love hit huge, in the U.S. At that point in time, my influences were Joe Morello of The Dave Brubeck Quartet, and more newly, Keith Moon, Greg Errico of Sly and The Family Stone, Mitch Mitchell, Ed Cassidy of Spirit...both whom moved to rock from jazz...and to a lesser extent Mister Baker. It was not coincidence that, when I moved over to bass guitar, my influences became John Entwistle, Larry Graham, Mark Andes, Eugene Wright of the Brubeck Quartet and, first and foremost, Jack. I was elated when, 25 years after I first moved over to bass, I found a 1967 Gibson EB0. It would be an embellishment to suggest that I could approximate a wee percentage of Jack's chops, but I got his vibe and his feel, because he was a remote mentor. I was elated when, this past October 22nd, I got a "Like" from Jack when I re-posted Wrapping Paper, which I'd only heard for the first time that day. Connecting with one of my heroes on Facebook??!!?? Priceless! And then....only three days later...he was gone. At least, from this physical plane. I was heartbroken, as was everyone and anyone reading this now. That said, as a given, the mere possibility that I had given Jack Bruce even one moment's joy, happiness, or sense of fulfillment after the millions of seconds in which he'd given me those gifts and more, as a fan, as an influence, as a teacher....it just boggles my mind. Thank you Jack, for being who you were at all times, and in all ways. Peace Forever!!

I grew up in Poland in early 60s. Started playing guitar in the band when I was 12. I took up bass when our guitarist was called for military service in 1969. Cream was always my inspiration, so when I had to switch fro guitar to bass, I wanted to play bass like Jack Bruce. His melodic and rich bass lines would always add extra dimension to the song. Jack didn't just keep the rhythm, he played bass that would tell an interesting story. He was also an amazing vocalist and a great songwriter. Because of Jack's influence I developed my own style. Consequently I was spotted by one of Poland's most popular guitarist and vocalist who at the time was forming his new band in early 70s. because of Jack's inspiration I also became a vocalist and a songwriter. I continue to play guitar and bass and I am still writing my own music. The legacy of Jack's musical talent will definitely inspire many other musicians to come. Jack Bruce had left a solid foundation for all musicians who like him want to expand their musical imagination.

Jack: You were my hero as my youth blossomed, and remained so as age and experience have taken their inevitable toll. Your music speaks to me more deeply than any I have heard before or since. I understand you were deeply flawed, as are we all. You ascended the heights and plumbed the depths of life, and became immortal through the sheer beauty and purity of your music - your bared soul. Even as death beckoned and claimed, you continued to pour your music, your very being, out to us as a gift of love and an offering to the Gods. You reigned even as you served. You will live forever, your divine gift never to be forgotten.

The most talented bass player the world has known. I had the pleasure of seeing Jack on a couple of occasions and was in awe of his skills. His vocals on Cream tracks cannot be beaten. A sad loss the the music industry and to the world.

Jack you made me want to play music. I am a radio volunteer now and it's cause my dad played Cream and taught me to listen to texture and depth in music and you made that possible. Thanks Love to your family

We never met Jack, as I'm only a fan. But you were my first bass teacher and inspiration. My sincerest condolences to the Bruce family.

I feel so lucky and humbled to have grown up through the 60 's to be influenced and enjoy the pure genius and musical talent of this great man . He and a rare few broke through the barriers of control the record companies had over the image and sound of music of the day , and help lay the foundations to a new and free form of music that changed the world forever.

RIP Mr Bruce. I enjoyed the Ginger Baker take, from the anthology DVD, on how you upset him with playing the bass too loud. He seemed to enjoy being upset. I wonder if there will be talk of a Cream reunion, similar to the Beatles after Lennon died. Say Hi to John for the rest of us.

I've loved Jack's bass playing and singing for 50 years. His bringing classical influences and playing the bass like a lead guitar were a joy. I was privileged to see him perform with Ginger and Gary Moore. May God bless his family at this difficult time.

It was a sad day for me to hear of his passing. He was such a wonderful person, and a very technical musician. I followed Cream since 1969.

Jack Bruce was a pioneer in riff based rock, and opened my eyes to the world of blues and I am forever grateful. I have been a fan of Cream since early on, and Jack's bass playing and vocal work helped inspire the musician I am today. He will be missed

I started as a musician by playing the bass guitar, at least partly because of Jack Bruce's amazing singing and playing in Cream (the other part: Jack Casady of the Airplane). Jack continued to inspire me long after Cream -- his solo and session work was always IMHO pushing the boundaries of creativity and complentation. I felt I almost knew him, through his Facebook posts and instructional videos. Go in peace, Jack!

I wish I was born 40 years earlier so I could hear you live, Jack. I started playing bass few weeks before you passed away. Your basslines will always be amazing and I'll try to learn them all. A great, great artist and one of the best bass players ever. Rest in Peace.
