Jack was an incredible inspiration to me and thousands of others. His playing encouraged me to take up bass guitar and, although never becoming a professional, the hours of enjoyment I derived from playing can't be valued in monetary terms. He will be missed by all his fans and, of course, his family. But his legacy will be everlasting.

Sad to hear the news of Jack's untimely passing. He was a Bass player par excellence: he had taste, style and complete command of his instrument. He was also a gifted Pianist and Vocalist. Jack had everything! I met him in London in 2008 at a Zildjian Cymbals event. It was held in honour of Ginger Baker. Jack came out of The Shepherds Bush Theatre in a red velvet suit. He stood beneath a streetlight and graciously signed my copy of Disraeli Gears: as he did so the light from the lamp above him lent him a magisterial-almost spectral quality. But that was Jack Bruce: special and never to be forgotten. God speed Jack.

Dear Jack, nearly 30 years ago I bought my first fretless, a Warwick Thumb, same model as you played. I putted photos from you, making pub, on my bass flightcase. Nobody reached to copy your unique style. Many ThanX to you for your great, wonderful bass play, influencing and motivating me since decades. RIP, my friend, Bernie, Graz Austria, 22.11.2014.

Jack Bruce is one of most important musician that I have looked up to in my years as a musician. He helped me realize how important the bass is, and should be to all forms of music. In my years as a bass player, I have often attributed my style of playing to what I have learned from listening to him play. It was one of the greatest moments of my life to see Mr. Bruce perform with Eric Clapton, and Ginger Baker for the Cream reunion at Madison Square Garden. His bass playing skills stands out, and puts him on top with all the greats who have ever touched the four strings. His vocal stylings can't be compared to that of any other, as well. He played a huge part in me working up the courage to try playing bass, and singing with one off bands for a short period. Although, I am no longer in a band, there had not been one show that we did where we didn't play a Cream song. Jack Bruce is just the type of musician that anyone starting out should aspire to be. Mr. Bruce. You are one of my favorite bass players of all time. Your talent will be missed in the coming years, but will always be remembered. Thank you for all the music that changed my life forever. You will always be remembered in my heart.

I would have been about twelve when my older brother brought home Cream's double LP Wheels of Fire. The studio sides were wonderful and Bruce And Brown's compositions very impressive but it was the live rendition of Spoonful that really knocked me out. The interplay between Bruce's bass and Clapton's guitar was so intense it was just mesmerizing. A couple of years later while I was riding with my brother in his VW Beetle he popped in a cassette of Bruce's solo album Songs For a Tailor. That brilliant, beautiful album confirmed what a genius the man was. It's an album that never gets old and I still relish listening to it to this day. Just a few months ago the new album Silver Rails was released and is a real treat that only gets better with each listen. The unique and brilliant Jack Bruce, arguably the greatest and most influential bassist in Rock history, lives on.

I remember I wanted to play guitar until one day I heard "Badge", after that I knew bass was the instrument for me. As I got to know more about bass I listened to more Cream and discovered how amazing a bassist Jack Bruce was. Everything about his playing I wanted to get down to a T. Now I finally have my own bass (and harmonica so I could be more like Jack) but I'm nowhere close to his greatness and I doubt I'll ever be.

I was introduced to Cream at a relatively early age by my older brother and instantly fell under the spell of that awesome music. Jack's complex bass lines and haunting vocals blended so seamlessly with Clapton and Baker's contributions to make a whole so much greater than the sum of their parts. They inspired a lifetime of music appreciation in me. Jack will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

I remember hearing Cream play a lunchtime radio slot as an impressionable 6th former at school back in 1967 and was amazed and particularly moved by Jack's soulful vocals for 'I Feel Free' and the quality of the live sound. 'White Room' again was sung so well, such emotive and soulful vocals are rare in rock. There is a tendency for us perhaps only to over focus on the guy who was probably indeed the best all round bass player in music - period. But Jack was also an inspirational vocalist and an impressive composer and arranger, among other talents! I'm reading 'Composing Himself' at present, a great and truthful boigraphy. My prayersand thoughts are with Jack's family and all those who loved him and his music. Thank you for the chance to write something.

I was a young art school photographer who loved Jack's music. I went to his concerts when he was in NYC. I went to the front of the stage and took many photographs of him. He always posed for me and acknowledged I got the picture. I was always so grateful for this kind acknowledgement. I was in a music store around this time where he was with Leslie West, trying out guitars as fans gathered round. He pointed to me and said to Leslie, "There's that girl," I was too shy to thank him for the photos and left the store. But I will always remember his recognition of me as a young photographer.

I was, and am, deeply saddened to hear of the death of the first real musical hero that I found for myself when I was 13. Jack Bruce was a huge talent - multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer and, of course, supreme bass player. He was also, in my opinion, massively underrated. His range was astonishing and of a consistently high standard, encompassing the ethereal majesty of something like As You Said through Rhythm & Blues (the proper kind, not whatever passes for it now) to heavy, riff-driven rock-blues to straight jazz on the marvellous album, Things We Like on to groundbreaking genre-smashing powerhouse complexity with Tony Williams Lifetime (the best) to the genius of his solo albums with the likes of lyrical efforts such as Theme For An Imaginary Western and the whole of Harmony Row even to really obscure work like putting Samuel Beckett's No Answer to music with Carla Bley and Mike Mantler. The music always came first with him and he was never content to stay in his comfort zone and make the bucks by churning out the stuff that made them famous 50 years ago, as so many of his more lauded contemporaries. With reference to a wonderfully original album he did with Bernie Worrell in the 90s called Monkjack, one reviewer observed that he was ...a musician's dream, a marketing man's nightmare! Just about sums him up! After his initial appearance with Cream on "Top Of The Pops" in late-1966, I was utterly captivated by his stunningly inventive basslines on "Disraeli Gears". There were any number of Eric Clapton and BB King-style guitarists but nobody played those contrapuntal lines that Jack produced on that wonderful album. Nobody! I was hooked from then on and devoured, initially, the wondrous, cliche-free lines on things like Crossroads. Eric Clapton's solos on that amazing Fillmore performance are justly praised but you listen to the improvised counterpoint that Jack provides. Wow! He also introduced me to the joys of improvisation and, ultimately, jazz, for which I'll be forever grateful. I had no idea at the time, of course. My big sister heard me listening to live Wheels Of Fire and said, "Oh, you'll like jazz one day." I was outraged! What could she be talking about? Jazz was Acker Bilk and the like and I definitely didn't go for that (still don't!). Jack also had a wicked, dry sense of humour. The jazz thing above reminds me of how he once commented, "Cream was a jazz band; we just never told Eric!" Jack was so much more than Cream and it's irritating to see his post-Cream work downplayed, inevitably, I suppose. His involvement with the best band I ever saw or heard, Tony Williams Lifetime, was pioneering stuff and mind-bendingly complex but also delivered at sternum-throbbing volume. Utter genius! You had to stick with it but I grew a new pair of ears that Nov night in Bristol in 1970. I was lucky enough to meet him twice; once at Ronnie Scott's in 1971 and once in Manchester's Band On The Wall in 1978 or so. Always had time for his fans and was excellent company. He bought me a double Scotch at Ronnies when I was a poverty-stricken schoolboy but I was able to return the favour in Manchester! So it's a very sad and reflective time for me. I got my wife onto his music through his (and Ginger's) harmonica tour-de-force, Traintime! Bloody marvellous! Thanks for the incalculable pleasure and brilliant memories your music has given me over the years, Jack! RIP.

Jack did so much to brighten my life; so pleased I managed to take my wife to see Jack and the band in Basingstoke a couple of years ago. What a talent; one of a kind. Rest well, Mr B...and a huge 'thank you' to all the family for sharing him with us.

When I first saw Jack Bruce play with Cream in LA 1968, I was riveted. My lady friend managed to lead me through a jam packed hall to the very edge of the stage halfway through their set. There we were at Jack's feet, as the band went into We're Going Wrong. Of all the great, great moments I experienced seeing the best bands play in LA or San Francisco in those years '67-'72 (and I saw them all!) that moment is one of a very few that I can still relive in memory and feel moved. His playing and singing were always to me, transforming

When I was a child and began to understand how the world works, fate made me an immense gift, and suddenly one day, I decided to buy a disc of a group that had no reference or prior information. I was moved by the powerful image of the cover of the LP. Three guys with a really shocking expression. The Cream was his name and the title of the album The Best of Cream. My life changed and for nearly 50 years, these three guys have been part of my system of life, one way or another. Over the years, one of those three musicians achieved a special status in my system. Jack Bruce became a kind of constant in the equation that we advance in knowledge and existential experience. His music, in itself, a vision of life, moving, hyper-sensitive and deeply drawn, has been and will be a tapestry full of signals representing values as images and sounds ..., vectors in the lives of many people like me. Hey Jack, How's tricks?

I met Jack in the late 1960s, at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He was the best bassist in the world back then, and still was the best when he left this Earth. I also should mention that he was one of very few people whose voice I would steal, if it were possible. He WAS Cream, because without his voice, Cream would not have existed.

In my early teens I went to the midnight movies to see a filmed Cream concert. From that moment on, I fell in love with Jack Bruce's voice. It was unique and made Cream very special. My biggest regret is that I never saw Cream play live. Like thousands of others, I tried for tickets for their reunion concerts at the Albert Hall but was disappointed. But at least I still have my albums and singles. Jack's legacy of music will live forever. Thank you Jack

The sixties showed us that the UK and surrounding countries were the beginning of something that will never die here in the US. "The British are coming" never carried so much truth as it did in those 10 years from 1960 - 1969. Here we found Jack Bruce and still hold him dear in our heaars today. Never will he be equaled because he was the greatest and we knew it then and still today. We have lost a wonderful, kind, truly grandious man and his music. But he will never be forgotten. RIP Jack....we are sorry you are not here amongst us any longer, but you will never be forgot.

Jack was 10 years my senior. I was starting to form bands with friends in the U.S. when Cream albums began appearing here in '66. I played bass, loved it and played for hours each day trying to learn to play like Jack. Doing so made me a good bassist but nothing close to his divine talent. He was my inspiration, and I learned much, but Jack's total musical gift was 1 in billions. #1 worldwide on bass but magically playing other instruments so well on at will. Add his amazing vocal and writing talents - Jack was a unique, undefinable musical package. He touched so many who loved him, as did I.

I started playing 45 years ago at 12 years f age. Although my initial influence to pursue bass was a result of seeing Geezer Butler in concert, my first, I was quickly introduced to Wheels of Fire by a seasoned pro. Jack Bruce's approach to playing became part of my foundation. Reading tributes from players I later studied (eg Jeff Berlin) it has suddenly become so clear on dear Jack's influence. I am so thankful for the joy he brought me in learning to play. And finally, after 40+ years I understand what he did in an instance on Crossroads (Wheels of Fire) so many years ago. Peace always.

"Can You Follow?" No, in my book nobody can follow Jack. What a musician, what vocal power. What a songwriting team: Jack and Pete Brown. "Harmony Row" is one of my favourite albums. Astonishingly good. Thank you Jack. Love to his family and friends.

I remember seeing Jack (soon after Cream) at Lanchester Poly in Coventry in 1969-great music-bemused student audience. And then at the old Marquee in Soho with Tony Williams' Lifetime-probably the most exciting gig I've ever heard. He was a truly great and remarkable musician, and everyone who loved him must share his family's loss.

So sad when I heard this news a few weeks back - in my humble opinion Jack was the finest bass player I ever had the good fortune to see and listen to. Wonderful player, great all round musician and composer and a real gent. My sincere condolences to all family and friends. Thanks for all the music Jack ... which will live on forever.

Jack Bruce was a great bassist and singer. I loved his rock and jazz work - Songs for a Tailor, Harmony Row (what a deliciously clever oxymoron) and Things We Like are three of my favourite LPs. Seeing him recently in Buxton was a treat (a very LOUD treat). Condolences to all the family.

One of my earliest childhood memories is playing my big brother's 45s, and there was this white and yellow one called "Sunshine of Your Love" that I listened to over and over. Jack, you welcomed me into the world and made sure I'd grow up to be a musician. We never met, but we've been friends all my life, and I'm going to miss you. Thank you for all the great memories, and for all the great music.
