How do you thank someone that has been such a major musical influence in your life? I learned, as so many others have to appreciate bass guitar...Not only in listening but learning the instrument, because of Mr. Bruce. His incredibly rich vocals, combined with the gift of storytelling brought all of us so much happiness. Prayers to his family and friends. God bless.

My cousin Bryan (Fisher) passed me an album late at night at a party is Stevenage, I was 14. He said you must listen to this its totally amazing - it was Fresh Cream. The rest is history - Jack was just incredible, that voice combined with those flying basslines and beautiful harp. It set a corner stone for my life thats never dimmed -- so so sad - been playing Cream vinyl and Jacks great subsequent albums since Saturday night --- Graham (Everson)

Dear Jack, I'm a wee bit numb still-I cannot take in that your fingers won't find the strings or the keys anymore...that you won't feel that utter love you had for making music again. Each note you played was special as it was exactly as you wished it to be....one, as gentle as your vulnerable soul, another as bold as the streets of Glasgow, yet another as passionate as your affair with the Blues,...music so honest & truthful that it sounds like NOTHING else. I heard the sexy Blues, I heard tantilising Jazz, I heard that Scots spirit, I heard the grandure of the classical composers....I feel that I know you personally because you really DID laid your soul bare in your music! Jack, you DID it - you made music your career, you played every conceivable genre....but you came "home" on Silver Rails. Then you were able to go. Thanks for making the ONLY music that conquered my heart and soul. God Bless You and God Bless Your Family as they will surely have broken hearts that will need mending. Wee Janie in South Africa

I was a fan of Jack's since the 60s and as a semi pro singer, songwriter, guitarist, he was a great influence. His talent will be sorely missed and at the next meeting of the local acoustic music club, I'll be performing "Theme For An Imaginary Western" as my own little tribute. As I'm from Sudbury, I saw Jack a few times around town, but always thought he could do without me pestering him and stopping him getting on with his life. I'm just grateful to have been part of a generation that could hear Jack's music and look forward to seeing the inevitable BBC tribute. R.I.P. Jack

After "Fresh Cream," there was no way that anyone could take up the bass without considering Jack's work. His was also one of the most distinguished and moving singing voices of all time, right up there with Sinatra, Lennon, McCartney, and McAloon. I will always treasure his solo albums and the account that a friend of mine gave after meeting him at House of Blues: that he was the warmest, sweetest gentleman she could ever wish to encounter. Vaya con Dios, Jack!

At thirteen from Fresh Cream I got my first taste for and glimpse of a different kind of soul that has stayed with me and to which I still return-after watching Jack on youtube today I played and sang my own versions of White room and Sunshine as my own personal tokens of esteem; they lifted me, raised my spirits, energised me. I always thought Jack was a great spirit with a heart full of soul who spoke through his music and really nailed it, here's to him.

I am quite saddened on this Monday morning after I found out that one of my musical idols has passed away two days ago. I have been playing bass guitar since 2009 and Cream is one of my all-time favorite bands mainly because of Jack's lead vocals and melodic bass (I was born in the 1990s by the way). His Gibson EB-3 has a distinct tone that is very difficult to reproduce on another bass and apply in various musical settings. This is what made Jack and his style very unique. Jack was one of my heroes and a true inspiration when writing bass solos and playing with or without a band. His work inspired me to be more aggressive with my bass and musical style, giving me ideas to bring the bass into the forefront. I truly thank him for his inspiration, influence, and for everything that he has done for the world of music. Rest In Peace Jack. You will be missed.

Jack Bruce was one of my first mentors. It was Jack's bass lines from "Wheels Of Fire" that I was inspired by and had first learned from for my introduction to guitar 46 years ago. I would slow down the record to 16 rpm. I loved Jack's compositions and vocals and will dearly miss him.

Although I lost track of Jack over the years, the catalogue of wonderful songs and melodies Jack wrote will always be among my favorites. God bless you Jack

A brilliant and talented artist who had major impact on anybody that ever picked up a bass guitar or listened to any of the Cream tracks that he and Peter Brown penned. Despite his acclaim, a true gentleman whose gracious manner belied a ferocious commitment to his music. May he be of blessed memory. There are many who will be weeping along with his beloved family tonight.

In 1967, when I was six-years old, there was a band that used to play in a garage near my grandparent's house in Scranton, Pennsylvania. I would sneak up and listen as they played, "Sunshine of Your Love" over and over. It has been my favorite song since. Later, when I found out who Cream was, I listened to the rest of their music and loved it all. Thanks, Jack. Tim

Older sister saw the Graham Bond Organisation, with Jack and Ginger, in the mid 60s. His playing and music is inspirational.Perhaps Harmony Row, will be released?:

Jack was my first inspiration as a bass player. Back in the 60's I was listening to the all the popular players of the time, looking for some musical roots. When introduced to Jack's playing, I had no idea a bass could be worked like that and it openned the door to possiblities and a style which I embraced. You gave me substance. Thank you Jack for your musical greatness and gift to us all. I will miss you.

i am just a fan who fell in love with a band in 1966, and love them even more on this day. to you of Jack"s family i am so truly sorry for your loss. Nothing can replace life. I never saw them unfortunatley i lived in Hawaii while they exisisted. Missed the winterland shows by 2 weeks. i once got rid of all of my records and kept 5 albums, i listened to only them for about six months. It was the 4 Cream albums, and Electric Ladyland. Still have the orginals somewhere. Jack WAS the voice of Cream and his songs were easily the bands best by far. I did get to see Jack finally a couple of years ago at Yoshi's in Oakland,California, where he was playing in a tribute to Tony Williams. the songs I didnt know, but it didnt matter I was seeing JACK BRUCE. half way through the show i look to booth next to me and there was Carlos Santana( whose wife at the timme was drummer with Jack.) for encore Carlos jumped up on stange and they played Sunshine of Your Love. everybody was grinning ear to ear. like now tears were rolling down my face, but from joy not sorrow. all else i can say is there wasn't a better bass player in world than your Jack. I will miss him too.

His innate talent and musical abilities were extraordinary. Jack was also was a very fine human being. He lives on in our hearts and in the brilliant music that he left behind.

His recordings with Leslie West, BLT, and Robin T. are also quite noteworthy. Hope he received the thank you email I sent him while he was still alive.

I'd like to express my honest sympathy for all of Jack Bruce's family members and personal friends. Losing a beloved family member and dear friend is hard and makes you feel sad, but my words of consolation are that - as far as I know - he has had a fulfilled life and has given us all a lot through his great music. I have been a big fan of his since I was a teenager in the 1960s listening to Cream's fantastic music and I am hearing Jack's wonderful voice right now as I'm listening to Jack's CD "Cities of the Heart" and to the song Spoonful. I wish I had seen and listened to Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker at Cream's "Reunion Concert" in the Royal Albert Hall in 2005. Yours faithfully, Hermann Wagner

I'm a friend of Kofi and Malcolm's. Malcolm had been doing some shows with us when I went out with my son to hear Son's of Cream. To our surprise, Jack walked in. Of course he went straight to the bar. We were having drinks together. He was VERY gracious to the few fans who recognized him. I enjoyed hanging with one of my heros, just having drinks like a regular guy at the bar. Needless to say, he had had a few! At break, Malcolm comes up to me and says "My dad wants to play, what should I do?" (I think he was worried that he had been drinking a bit...) To which I said, "Your dad is Jack Bruce, you HAVE to let him play." My son and I were standing 3 feet from Jack in a small club when second set opened with Spoonful. Jack was beyond great. It was an experience I'll never forget and a moment with my son, Eric, that we will both treasure forever. BTW, Eric was a student of Kofi's. He went on to achieve a Masters Degree in Jazz Drum Set and became one of the best drummers I know!

I was extremely fortunate to see Jack perform nine times including the majestic May 2nd 2005 Cream performance at the RAH. The standing ovation that we gave the three legends as they took the stage surely awed them as they stood there not knowing what to do for a few minutes. Jack was my favorite musician and singer and there will never be another like him! Jack R.I.P. From Mike in the west of Ireland.

Hello, I am stunned by the news of Jack's passing, but trust that he lived his life to the fullest, and that he inspired all those he had lived and worked with. Jack will always be my favorite bassist: From Cream; solo work; Bruce West Laing and collaboration with Robin Trower, his singing and performing made the songs standout! And to prove my point: Can you imagine Cream without Jack Bruce? Who else could have filled the void with comparable writing, singing and playing; all while adding a dynamic edge that pushed them to their potential and beyond? No one could! Finally, Jack will forever be in the pantheon of great bass players like Stanley Clarke, James Jamerson and Louis Satterfield; the difference is Jack also sang and wrote fine songs. May Jack rest in peace and my thoughts are with his family. Best Regards, Roderick Hamblen

I was fortunate to experience the surge of great British music in the 1960's and always considered the Beatles and Cream as the defining moments of that era. There has never been a group that can identify three superstars in their profession as Cream. It created a sound and legacy that will live forever. I was unable to catch the Cream reunion in 2005 and always hoped for a return. The passing of Jack brings great sadness, however, we will remember all his great contributions. I hope Jack is "Sitting on Top of the World" looking down and smiling, knowing that he touched so many individuals...

Jack Bruce, The great bass player, composer and singer of the Legend of Cream passed away. I will always remember the first time that I listened CREAM: I was in love immediately. I was a little boy and one day, in my old house, in which I was born, I found an audio cassette and decided tio play it. I was so inpressed by White Room, Crossroads, Politician, Born under a bad sign, Sunshine of your love, Tales of brave Ulysses, all really wonderful songs. That way to sing so free and outside the rules and that way to play the bass guitar of Jack Bruce, so powerful and original accompanied by the tribal rhythm of Ginger Baker, so incredible. The sound of the guitar of Eric Clapton...so amazing, quicksilver! Crossroads, Spoonful...a new way to feel and play the blues. I didn't know who left that audio cassette in my house...it's a mistery even now! It seemed the destiny...to know and love Cream!!!! And then, after a long time, I received the gift of a new record: "Around the next dream" (B.B.M.). I was so curious and happy to listen that sound again, except Gary Moore in place of Eric Clapton. And in 2005, the Reunion! The desire not realized to go to London to embrace and see my heroes to the Royal Albert Hall, that incredible happiness to buy the dvd, go home and enjoy every second, note, frame. And then, I formed my actual band, Mr.Cream, the tribute to the legend of CREAM! I'm very proud to sing and play this music and have the way to remember and show Cream to the people that come to my gigs. Thank you Jack pfor everything you gave and left to us in all these years. A big big hug everywhere you are. I will always remember you with all my heart like you composed, sang and play with all your heart :-) Sincerely yours, Luca Vaglica

Jack's music will always hold a special place in my heart as his work with Eric and Ginger in forming Cream was simply explosive, and provided a backdrop to my formative teen years and own early musical endeavors. Thank you, Jack. RIP

Seeing Jack, Ginger and Eric 'live' in 1967 changed my life forever - and I wouldn't still be playing now if it weren't for that experience. Jack was the greatest bassist - and a great composer and singer. I last saw him at the Half Moon, Putney, doing a charity gig a couple of years ago - and that energy was still there. A musical genius.

After over 45 years of loving Jack's music, word's escape me. After all, what can I say that hasn't already been said hundreds of times? All I know is that I hurt deep inside and there seems to be a piece of me missing now. Above all others, Jack Bruce supplied me with the soundtrack to my life. Good times, bad times...I could always turn to Jack and get "Lost Inside a Song". Thank you Jack. You touched my life in ways you'll never know...and you'll continue to do so.

Nobody can compare to Jack Bruce...He was a fabulous bass player, gifted singer and song writer. He brought elements of blues, jazz and classical music to his melodic bass lines and vocals. I'm so grateful that I got to see him play at BB Kings NYC back in 2010. He will surely be missed.

Jack has been in my thought always since the sixties. He is one of my favorite people ever. The fact that I got to know him and talk many, many times and to give him a bass is a lifetime thrill that nothing or noone can ever take away or diminish. He gave one also that is such a keepsake.I am thrilled to know some of his family members who are beautiful people who he was so proud of.We will all carry on together and live in happiness remembering the gifts we all got from the life of the great,Jack Bruce.I know he is around watching all of this.He left us great memories.Silver Rails is one of them.Sadly,he is now riding on those Silver Rails himself as that train pulls out from the station. Peace be unto all.

As a young guy all of 12 years old I became aware of Jack Bruce. He had a powerful impact on my life then and since. Now almost 50 years later I feel exactly the same. I play bass left handed and had Gibson make me a special EB-3 left handed. Its my tribute to Jack Bruce. I havent seen him play as often as I have seen Eric Clapton for example, Jack Bruce didnt make it the west coast very often. But I am glad I saw him the few times that I did. And I am glad to have met his son Malcolm and hope to see him again soon Thanks Jack Bruce....

I like many was deeply saddened by the passing of Jack. In the late 60's when I started playing bass, Jack was my biggest influence, I still have my EB-3 from those days. I also have a Warwick fretless even though I didn't know at the time it was what Jack was playing. I was honored to be part the Pledgemusic campaign for Live at the Milky Way. My sincerest condolences to his entire family and more so to Natascha. May he RIP and his music last forever.

Thank you for the beautiful music that has been an enduring, melodic and lyrical fountain of inspiration in my life since 1969. Even now your operatic soul must be composing poetic symphonies of the Heart. What a powerhouse! Disraeli Gears burned into my memory early on, and still one of my favorite records from that time and of all time. As a bassist (though my first instrument was piano) I have always counted him as an influence on my playing, especially as he was responsible for one of my favorite quotes, having said that Johann Sebastian Bach was the king of the bass players. Maybe so, but Mr. Bruce was a duke or an earl, at least. We'll miss him.

I first heard Jack on the Fresh Cream album when it first came out. Of course, I went back and listened to everything he recorded that I could find. He has been hugely influential on me as a musician and composer. Saw him only 3 times, 2 times here in NH and once with Cream at MSG. A huge talent who will never be replaced. On hearing of his passing, I played his recordings of "Theme for an Imaginary Western", "Rope Latter to the Moon" and, poignantly "Ships in the Night". This is one player who will miss you, Jack. God bless.

I am very saddened by this loss. I was born in 1954, so, Cream was a huge influence on me. I am a drummer, so I continued to follow Ginger and Jack through their careers. I was extremely impressed with all of Jack's work with Robin Trower. And his latest album, Silver Rails is one of his best. I am glad that he left this work of love for all fans to remember the greatest bass player who ever lived. We will miss you Jack always. RIP my friend!

I first heard Jack in 1969 when I got my first Cream album. Since then I have followed his career closely, delving back into his earlier work with Alexis Korner and Graham Bond through to the present day. He opened my eyes to how melodic and interesting bass can be and he was a major influence on my decision to take up bass, as well as influencing my own style of playing. I'm still playing today some 40+ years later and I still cherish my own 67 Gibson EB3 which I will dust off and play in Jack's memory. Lets also not forget his brilliant song writing and vocal abilities and as an example, his performance on we're going wrong at the RAH Cream reunion concert sent shivers down my spine. RIP Jack and thank you for the inspirational work you gave us. My condolences to his family.

Dear Bruce family - Please accept my condolences for your loss. I am one of the many who were inspired to pick up the bass guitar inspired by Jack's playing;I had the honor of getting to tell him so a few years ago, and received a most gracious thank you in return. The world is a richer place because Jack Bruce was here, and he will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Jack. Jack Bruce was my inspiration to become a bass player back in 1983. I wore out the grooves on my Cream records trying to copy Jack's style. I'll always regret that I never got to see Jack play live, but at least I have many records over the course of his entire career to listen to and appreciate. My sincere condolences to his family.

I saw Jack Bruce in the US in the front row when he played with the Ringo Starr All Star Band. I was around 50 years old at the time. But, he was such an influence to me when I was in my teens in the 1960's! Like Jack, I studied classical music but formed a blues rock band and Cream was the inspiration. His bass playing was unbelievable...but his voice was THE voice. In face, I did a radio show in college and I kept my first name, but re-named my last name to "Bruce" in honor of Jack. Thus, I became Mike Bruce!! Rest in Peace, Jack...you are in my thoughts. You made a big difference in this world.

there is good reason "as you said" was my favorite cream song, even if it was eric who originally drew me to the band. he was probably the first 60's icon to think & work outside of the box, compositionally, & THE reason "songs for a tailor" & "out of the storm" are still so precious to me. it's going to be rough without you, mate...

Jack Bruce, simply the most sublime musician and bass player there ever was. A few tears have been shed since Saturday, it's difficult to comprehend the loss. Such an enormous influence on me, and will be the definitive reference point for generations of aspiring musicians to come. Raised on Cream, and was privileged enough to see the magic firsthand in 2005. Take extra care Jack, and enjoy the great gig in the sky. Yours, Chris.
