As a young musician and bassist , Jack Bruce was a huge influence and hero of mine. He approached the bass as a true musician and did not allow this instrument to take a back seat to anyone and show what a REAL musician could do with it. I also loved the studio work, where other forms and instruments were introduced and used. RIP Jack

I will never forget the Cream concert at Chastain in Atlanta in 1968. Jack did "Train Time" and knocked everyone out with his musicianship. The whole band was fabulous. Thanks Jack.

By far my favorite bassist of all time and Cream is one of the greatest bands of all time. Jack was my inspiration to learn the bass. The very first song I learned to play was "Sunshine of your love." He was one of my idols. Jack was one of the most positive musical influences in my experience. Particularly his compositions. I was too young to see Cream during its initial run. I was most fortunate to get to hear them at Madison Square Garden in 2005. It remains one of my most memorable experiences. Thank you Jack.

Jack was and still is my ultimate musical hero. Dating back to The Graham Bond Organisation and on through Cream, West Bruce and Laing and his amazing solo work he was a genius. Cream was my first musical love after the Beatles. Even to my young 14-year old ears, songs like 'As You Said' stood out above most of what else was happening in the music scene and had a profound effect on me and my future musical tastes. I've also enjoyed following Jack's career after Cream in it's many manifestations. I'm not a musician, but once about two or three years ago, I actually dreamed that I was jamming with Jack and apologizing for not being up to his standards. In my dream Jack was very kind and reassured me to just play what I feel and we had a blast together. Sure, it was only a dream, but it shows the extent to which Jack's music has affected me. Thank you Jack for placing the bar so high and for delivering years of invention, soul and skill in your music.

My older brother Jim turned me on to Jack Bruce and Cream back in the 60's when I was just a kid. I could not afford to go to the limited shows of the Cream reunion, but I did get fortunate enough to see Jack with Ringo's All Starr Band back in 1997. I had 6th row seats and Jack was the star of that show for sure. Seeing such a brilliant musician and songwriter is a memory I'll always cherish. Enjoy Heaven Bruce! My life and music as we know it was forever changed by the example of artistry and unfettered expression that only music can truly allow that Jack embodied and magnified. A great one has passed, leaving a tsunami in his wake. He was a poet on par with the laureate Robert Burns himself, and as Jack so eloquently spoke, "My head is hung down with the heaviest rain I am feeling." Such a heavy loss. I first "discovered" Jack Bruce, when i began to hear and collect rock music, many moons ago. I first got "Disraely Gears" and fell in love with CREAM. Then i ran away to the music store and bought "LIVE CREAM", and spend hours and hours hearing that blistering sound, of only 3 man, playing by telepaty, long versions of short songs: NSU and Sweet Wine among others. Jack Bruce, and the lates John Entwistle and Gary Thain, were my favorite bass players ever. The 3 of them are gone now....maybe they will be jamming together somewhere in another dimension....

Greetings Folks, Before playing guitar, drums were the instrument of choice. As half of the bottom, a drummer listens to the bass player more than any other instrument. The drummers I listened to most, and the bass players were: Ringo Starr-Paul McCartney. Charlie Watts-Bill Wyman. Hal Blaine-Joe Osborn. and Ginger Baker-Jack Bruce. On October 18, 1968, I went to my first concert, the Cream farewell concert at the Forum in Los Angeles. I was just starting to play bass and had a '68 Jazz. After watching Jack play, I immediately went out and traded the Fender Jazz for a Gibson EB-3 (actually a very stupid move, I should have kept them both). But, from that time on, I was a Jack Bruce devotee and proceeded to learn all the Cream bass parts note for note. Always weird, interesting and challenging, he was the person who make me appreciate the potential of an instrument that sat in the back for so long. RIP Jack, to my greatest musical influence.

I first met Jack when we supported the Cyril Davis All-Stars in 1963. He lent me his double bass as my tone post had collapsed on my bass. On his bass was a newspaper clipping which said 'This machine kills' I respect and remember him as a major part of the british music scene.

I was fortunate to see Cream in concert in Zurich, Switzerland, when they were an opening group for Jimi Hendrix. While Jack is remembered as the world's greatest bass guitarist, I also remember his incredible singing. No-one used his voice as an instrument as well as did Jack. Requiescas In Pace. One of the remarkable things about Jack - and here I mean Jack as Artist, since I've never had the good fortune to meet him in person (although living for decades with his works and voice in one's head can create an illusion that we 'know' him), is the way his example has inspired and illuminated the way for so many others. One need only skim these pages to see how many bass players were forged in the fires he enkindled with his work. Many of the greatest joys I've experienced in life have been the result of playing music, and every note I play has something to do with the lessons and values I've absorbed from following Jack's fearless artistic example - both as a creative role model on the instrument we both play and for his refusal to take the easiest path throughout his wide-ranging career. It would have been easy for him to simply continue doing what had made him most popular, and I'm deeply grateful to him for showing how to push beyond that to seek a series of new challenges. What I admire most in him, evidenced both through the things he played on his instrument and in his career choices, is his staunch determination not to be limited by the expectations of others. Jack Bruce, as revealed through his work, has been a huge presence in my interior life, and will surely continue to be so. I'm sorry we'll miss out on hearing whatever he was about to do next, because unlike many of his peers, he was still moving restlessly forward. My heart goes out to those of you who enjoyed real flesh-and-blood relationships with him, and for whom his loss exists in dimensions not available to people like myself who knew him only through his rich and wonderful music.

It breaks my heart to say goodby to one of the greatest all round musicians from the golden rock era. I remember seeing Cream at Grantham Drill Hall when they had only been formed a few weeks before. As a guitarist I went to see Eric Clapton but came away with great admiration for Jack I had never seen a bass player before who could handle a bass like he did. Bass players for me had always been in the background but Jack brought the bass to the forefront and could hold his own while Eric was playing his solos. He also wowed me with his harmonica playing. Train time and Rolling and Tumbling blew me away, but I must say my all time favourite Cream track was N.S.U. which I did perform once with my group and at the time I was playing bass guitar and I had a picture of Jack in my mind while I was doing it. I hope I did it justice. We will miss you Jack you can't be replaced.

I was hoping he wouldn't go this soon. The hall's been cleared, and it is so quiet...When I first beheld him, with West Bruce and Laing at Winterland SF '72, he commanded the stage like a living flame...I made it as far as the ferryman's cottage at the foot of Kintyre in '74...In subsequent Bay Area gigs, he never failed us or preened (except in self-mockery). At Oakland's Omni Club in oh '89, he led a band which include, "my big brother, Ginger Baker". They even did Christmas bits!..Whatta presence..a full-service troubadour, with political commitment and a great sense of humor. Via a long-ago interview, he gave the reader this advice: "You've got to believe in yourself." I'd raise a glass of cheer, but like him, I've got liver trouble. RIP&G, John Symon, PhD.

I saw Jack Bruce three times , twice in Germany in a one week period in the late 70's & once in Las Vegas at Calamity Janes in the late 80's. He was great. As a teen I would listen to the Live Cream album and it would lull me to sleep every night. Jack, Eric and Ginger's instrumentals would send me down many roads as they were trading riffs on stage somewhere. They were totally in communication with each other on a musical plane. Eric,s guitar was bobbing and weaving in and out, up and down. Ginger's drums were a herd of stampeding buffalo. I was inspired by Jack's performance in 2005 reunion at MSG with CREAM. Of all his great compositions as a solo artist the most touching is "Wind & the Sea" my most favorite amongst many other 2nd favorites. I think of him as a Mozart of our time in his own right. R.I.P. J.B.

What else can be said? Jack you were a big part of the soundtrack of my life. No matter how hard things may have been through the years I could always refer back to music for my escape. Cream was such a big part of life. I played guitar. Clapton was my idol. Baker was incredible, Jack with his incredible bass lines and his incredible voice rounding things out. In the 1969 I heard "I Feel Free" never heard anything better on a first time basis. Saw Jack at Paul's Mall, a small venue in Boston, that is one of my two best musical experiences; the other, solo Gene Clark (of the Byrds. The other day I went to a used record store, Somerville Grooves and found "Wheels of Fire" for $14.Had not owned that in a while. Later that day played it out of my back yard record shack. Two days later I heard he was gone. Sorry for your loss, thise of you who knew and loved him.

Jack was an inspiration to this 16 year old bassplayer in 1969 from the Detroit area. Learned his bass lines and made me a better player. What you see was what you got from Jack. He always inspired me to try musical lines on an instrument at the time was unheard of in rock and roll blues (beautiful melodies). Dear Jack, You were one of the musicians who orchestrated a large part of my musical upbringing. As a drummer I poured over and studied a lot of your work to hear how you played off of so many great drummers, to learn your approaches to song writing and to hear and enjoy your great voice. Your music always made me think, feel and experience things in very sensory ways, like a painter who colors our world with sounds. To say that I'll miss you is a very painful understatement. But I want to thank you for all the great sounds and songs that you've left us. Thank you Jack for coloring this world with your music.
